What is the Rajasthan Gas Cylinder Subsidy Scheme?

Rajasthan Gas Cylinder Subsidy Scheme is a state cooking-gas subsidy run by the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department that brings the effective cost of one domestic LPG refill down to Rs 450 a month for poorer households. The scheme is commonly called the Rasoi Gas Cylinder Subsidy Yojana or simply the "450 rupee cylinder" scheme in Rajasthan.

The mechanism is important to understand because it confuses first-time beneficiaries. Rajasthan does not sell the cylinder at Rs 450 at your door. You pay the delivery person the same market price everyone else pays. The state then credits the difference between that price and Rs 450 into the bank account attached to your Jan Aadhaar record, usually within a few weeks. The saving is real but it arrives after the purchase, not at the time of it.

The subsidy is built in two layers. Ujjwala beneficiaries already receive a central subsidy per refill under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, and Rajasthan adds a state top-up on top of that so the net outgo lands at Rs 450. For BPL and NFSA families outside Ujjwala, the state carries a larger share. Because the market price of a 14.2 kg cylinder moves every month, the rupee value of the credit changes month to month while the Rs 450 net price stays fixed.

Coverage was widened significantly when the state extended the benefit beyond BPL and Ujjwala households to all families listed under the National Food Security Act, which brought the eligible population to well over a crore families.

Who is eligible for the Rs 450 LPG cylinder?

A household can claim the subsidy if:

  • It is resident in Rajasthan and holds a valid Jan Aadhaar family identification.
  • It falls in at least one of three categories: a Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana connection holder, a family on the BPL list, or a family covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
  • It holds a domestic LPG connection with one of the oil marketing companies; Indane, Bharat Gas or HP Gas; in the name of a family member.
  • The LPG consumer number is seeded against the Jan Aadhaar record.
  • The bank account linked to Jan Aadhaar is active and Aadhaar-seeded.

A household is not eligible and cannot apply if:

  • It is outside all three lists, a general APL family with no NFSA, BPL or Ujjwala coverage does not qualify for the state top-up.
  • The connection is commercial rather than domestic; only the 14.2 kg domestic cylinder is covered, not 5 kg commercial or 19 kg commercial refills.
  • The family has surrendered the central LPG subsidy or the connection is inactive or blocked for KYC.
  • More than one connection is being claimed for the same family. The subsidy is one connection per Jan Aadhaar family, not per person.
  • The family is a resident of another state even if it holds a Rajasthan gas connection through a previous address.

How to apply for the Rajasthan gas cylinder subsidy

Most eligible families do not fill any form. The action required is seeding, linking the gas connection to the family's Jan Aadhaar record so the system can identify you.

  1. Collect your Jan Aadhaar card, Aadhaar card, ration card and the gas connection passbook showing the LPG consumer number.
  2. Visit your LPG distributor's agency. The Indane, Bharat Gas or HP Gas agency that delivers your cylinders, and ask them to seed your Jan Aadhaar number and Aadhaar number against the connection.
  3. Alternatively visit an eMitra kiosk and ask the operator to complete the Jan Aadhaar to LPG ID seeding for the notified service fee.
  4. Confirm at the same visit that the bank account recorded in Jan Aadhaar is correct and active, and get it updated if the account has changed.
  5. Book your next refill normally, pay the delivery price in full, and check the bank account after a few weeks for the credit.

If your family is genuinely NFSA-covered but is not showing as eligible, the correction has to be made in the NFSA ration card record at the ration dealer or the block supply office, not at the gas agency.

How to check your LPG subsidy status

  1. Open the Jan Soochna portal at jansoochna.rajasthan.gov.in, the state's own transparency portal, and look up your family's scheme benefits with your Jan Aadhaar number.
  2. Check the NFSA and ration card section to confirm your family is listed, since NFSA coverage is the main eligibility route.
  3. Check your bank passbook or SMS alerts for a DBT credit tagged to the LPG subsidy after each refill.
  4. Check the LPG distributor's own portal or app for the oil company, which shows the subsidy transferred against each booking.

Why subsidy credits fail, and how to fix them

  • LPG ID not seeded with Jan Aadhaar. The single most common cause. Fix it at the gas agency or an eMitra kiosk.
  • Bank account inactive or not Aadhaar-seeded. The DBT bounces back. Visit the bank branch and complete Aadhaar seeding and KYC.
  • Name mismatch between the gas connection, Aadhaar and Jan Aadhaar. Get the gas agency to correct the connection record to match Aadhaar exactly.
  • Family removed from the NFSA list during a verification drive. Check the NFSA status on Jan Soochna and file for restoration at the block supply office if the removal was wrong.
  • Two connections in one family: only one is subsidised, so the second will never show a credit.
  • Refill booked in the same month as a previous subsidised refill. The monthly cap has already been used.

What are the key dates and limits?

  • One subsidised refill per month, up to 12 in a financial year.
  • The subsidy is available all year with no application window; there is no last date to seed your Jan Aadhaar with the connection.
  • The rupee value of the credit changes monthly because it is the gap between the prevailing market price and the fixed Rs 450 net price.
  • Coverage was extended from BPL and Ujjwala households to the wider NFSA list, which is why many families who were previously ineligible now qualify.

Where do you complain about the LPG subsidy?

  • Your LPG distributor first, for seeding, connection KYC and booking problems.
  • District Supply Officer (DSO) or the block supply office, for NFSA and ration card eligibility disputes.
  • Rajasthan Sampark on 181 or at sampark.rajasthan.gov.in for a written, trackable grievance against the department.
  • Jan Soochna portal at jansoochna.rajasthan.gov.in to independently verify what the government's own records say about your family before you complain.

No fee is charged by the government for the subsidy itself. A gas agency cannot demand extra money to seed your Jan Aadhaar, and no official will ask for your bank OTP or password to release the subsidy.

Frequently asked questions

How much do I pay for a gas cylinder under the Rajasthan subsidy scheme?

An eligible household ends up paying an effective Rs 450 for one 14.2 kg domestic refill a month. At delivery you pay the full market price like any other customer, and the difference between that price and Rs 450 is credited to your Jan Aadhaar-linked bank account by Direct Benefit Transfer.

Do I have to apply separately for the Rs 450 cylinder in Rajasthan?

No separate application form is required for most families. Ujjwala, BPL and NFSA households are identified from existing databases, but your Jan Aadhaar number and LPG consumer number must be correctly seeded with each other, which you can get done free at your gas agency or an eMitra kiosk.

Who is eligible for the Rs 450 cylinder in Rajasthan?

Families holding a Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana connection, families on the BPL list, and families covered under the National Food Security Act are the three eligible groups. All three must be residents of Rajasthan with a valid domestic LPG connection in the household's name.

How many subsidised cylinders can I get in a year?

One subsidised refill per month is allowed, so up to 12 in a financial year. Booking a second cylinder in the same month is possible but the extra refill is charged at full market price with no state subsidy.

Why has my LPG subsidy not been credited?

The most common cause is that the LPG consumer number is not seeded with the Jan Aadhaar record, or the bank account linked to Jan Aadhaar is inactive or not Aadhaar-seeded. A name mismatch between the gas connection and Jan Aadhaar also blocks the transfer.

Can a family with an APL ration card get the Rs 450 cylinder?

A family outside the NFSA, BPL and Ujjwala lists is not eligible and cannot claim the state subsidy. General category APL households continue to buy LPG at the market price and receive only whatever central subsidy applies to them.

Does the subsidy go to the man or the woman of the house?

The credit goes to the bank account of the person recorded as the head in the Jan Aadhaar record, which in the vast majority of Rajasthan households is the woman of the family, matching the design of the Ujjwala scheme.
