Rajasthan Indira Gandhi Gas Cylinder Subsidy Scheme (now Cooking Gas Cylinder Subsidy Yojana)
Rajasthan state government scheme
Rajasthan Indira Gandhi Gas Cylinder Subsidy Scheme, now run as the Cooking Gas Cylinder Subsidy Yojana, lets eligible families buy one 14.2 kg domestic LPG refill a month for a net Rs 450. The beneficiary pays the full market price to the agency and the difference is credited to the Jan Aadhaar-linked bank account. No separate application form is needed.
What is the Rajasthan Indira Gandhi Gas Cylinder Subsidy Scheme?
Rajasthan Indira Gandhi Gas Cylinder Subsidy Scheme is a state-funded cooking fuel subsidy run by the Food and Civil Supplies Department, Government of Rajasthan. Launched in 2023 and widely known in Hindi as the Indira Gandhi Gas Cylinder Subsidy Yojana, the scheme is now administered under the name Cooking Gas Cylinder Subsidy Yojana. The benefit and the delivery mechanism have stayed the same through the renaming.
The scheme brings the effective cost of one 14.2 kg domestic LPG refill down to Rs 450 a month for poorer households. Rajasthan does not sell the cylinder at Rs 450 over the counter. Instead the household pays the full market rate to the gas agency at the time of delivery, and the state credits the gap between that rate and Rs 450 straight into the beneficiary's bank account. Because the market price of a domestic cylinder moves, the amount credited each month moves with it, the net cost to the family stays fixed.
How the scheme is structured
- Funded entirely by the Government of Rajasthan; it is a state top-up over the central LPG subsidy, not a replacement for it.
- Delivered by Direct Benefit Transfer into the bank account attached to the family's Jan Aadhaar record.
- Limited to one refill per month per household, capping the benefit at 12 subsidised cylinders in a year.
- Applies only to 14.2 kg domestic cylinders. Commercial cylinders, 19 kg cylinders and 5 kg small packs are outside the scheme.
Cooking fuel is the reason the scheme exists. A large share of Ujjwala connections in Rajasthan were taken but rarely refilled because the market price of a refill was out of reach; the state subsidy is designed to make the twelfth refill as affordable as the first, so households do not slip back to firewood and dung cakes.
Who is eligible for the Rajasthan gas cylinder subsidy?
You are covered if:
- You are a permanent resident of Rajasthan with a valid Jan Aadhaar family ID.
- Your household holds a Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana LPG connection, or
- Your family is on the state's Below Poverty Line (BPL) list, or
- Your family holds a ration card under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). This category was brought in later, which is what widened the scheme from roughly the original Ujjwala and BPL base to a much larger set of households.
- The domestic LPG connection is in the name of a woman member of the family in the Ujjwala category, and the connection is active with a recognised oil marketing company (Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum or Hindustan Petroleum).
- The bank account linked to your Jan Aadhaar is live and Aadhaar-seeded.
You cannot apply / you are not eligible if:
- Your household is not on the Ujjwala, BPL or NFSA lists. Being poor in practice is not enough, the databases decide.
- The ration card has been cancelled, suspended or flagged during a verification drive.
- The connection is a commercial or non-domestic one, or the cylinder size is 19 kg or 5 kg.
- The LPG connection is not linked to any Jan Aadhaar family ID.
- The same household already claims the subsidy on a second connection. One household gets one subsidised refill a month regardless of how many connections it holds.
What documents are needed?
Because there is no application form, these documents are used for seeding and correction rather than for a fresh claim:
- Jan Aadhaar card. The family ID that anchors the payment.
- Aadhaar card of the connection holder.
- LPG consumer number / 17-digit LPG ID from the connection passbook.
- Ration card (NFSA, BPL or Ujjwala paperwork) proving the category.
- Bank passbook showing an Aadhaar-seeded account.
- Registered mobile number for OTP and credit SMS.
How to make sure you get the Rajasthan LPG subsidy, step by step
Rajasthan runs this scheme on automatic identification, so the practical work is making your records match. Follow these steps:
- Check that your family has a Jan Aadhaar number. Open janaadhaar.rajasthan.gov.in, or ask at any e-Mitra kiosk. If your family has no Jan Aadhaar ID, enrol first: nothing else in this scheme works without it.
- Link the LPG consumer number to the Jan Aadhaar record. Take your Jan Aadhaar card, Aadhaar and LPG passbook to your gas distributor and ask them to seed the Jan Aadhaar number against your consumer number. Several distributors also accept this at their counter through the oil marketing company's own portal.
- Confirm the bank account is Aadhaar-seeded. Ask your bank branch to confirm NPCI Aadhaar seeding. A DBT credit fails on an unseeded account even when everything else is correct.
- Verify your category record on Jan Soochna. The Jan Soochna Portal (jansoochna.rajasthan.gov.in) publishes ration card and scheme beneficiary data. Search by Jan Aadhaar or ration card number and confirm your NFSA/BPL status is showing.
- Book and take delivery normally. Pay the full amount to the delivery person and keep the cash memo. Do not pay any "subsidy registration fee", there is none.
- Watch for the credit. The subsidy for a delivery taken in one month is generally credited in the first week of the following month.
How to get it fixed offline
- Visit your LPG distributor with the Jan Aadhaar card, Aadhaar card and LPG passbook and ask for a seeding correction receipt.
- If the distributor's record is already correct but no money has arrived, take the same papers plus the last two cash memos to the District Supply Officer (DSO) in your district headquarters.
- Alternatively, use any e-Mitra kiosk, which can look up the Jan Aadhaar record, update the bank account and raise a departmental ticket.
How much money actually reaches you?
The state pays the difference between the prevailing market price of a 14.2 kg domestic refill and Rs 450, after adjusting for any central subsidy already credited. Two points matter for a household budget:
- The credited amount changes every month with the cylinder price. If the market rate is higher in a given month, the credit is bigger; the family's net outgo stays at Rs 450.
- The subsidy attaches to one refill only. A family that consumes two cylinders in a month pays full price for the second.
Over a year of monthly refills, that is 12 subsidised cylinders per household, which is why the scheme is usually described in Rajasthan as "Rs 450 wala silinder".
How to check your cylinder subsidy status
- Jan Soochna Portal, jansoochna.rajasthan.gov.in lists beneficiary and ration card information by Jan Aadhaar number. Use it to confirm you are on the right list.
- Bank SMS / passbook โ the credit appears as a DBT entry from the state government.
- Your LPG distributor's system. The distributor can show whether the Jan Aadhaar number is seeded against your consumer number, which is the single most common failure point.
- Rajasthan Sampark. The state grievance portal shows the status of any complaint you have registered.
Why subsidy credits fail, and how to fix each one
| Problem | What is really wrong | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No credit at all | Jan Aadhaar not seeded against the LPG consumer number | Get the distributor to seed it, keep the receipt |
| Credit bounced back | Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded or closed | Ask the branch to complete NPCI seeding |
| Only some months credited | More than one refill taken in a month | Only one refill a month is subsidised |
| "Not a beneficiary" | Ration card suspended or category changed | Apply for restoration at the DSO office |
| Name mismatch | Aadhaar name differs from the gas connection name | Correct one of the two records so both agree |
Key dates and how the scheme changed
- 2023, launched as the Indira Gandhi Gas Cylinder Subsidy Yojana for Ujjwala and BPL households, with a large DBT transfer event held for the first cohort of beneficiaries.
- From 1 January 2024, the incoming state government confirmed the Rs 450 cylinder would continue, and the scheme was carried forward under the Cooking Gas Cylinder Subsidy Yojana name.
- Later expansion; coverage was extended beyond Ujjwala and BPL to all National Food Security Act ration card holders, which is the largest single change to the scheme's reach.
Where to complain
- Helpline 18001806127, the Rajasthan Jan Soochna / Food and Civil Supplies toll-free number for ration card and subsidy questions.
- District Supply Officer, the departmental authority for LPG and ration card grievances in every district.
- Rajasthan Sampark, the state's common grievance portal, where a complaint gets a tracking number.
- Your oil marketing company's customer care, for anything to do with the connection itself, such as a wrong consumer number or a blocked connection.
Do not pay an agent to "add your name" to the Rs 450 cylinder list. Seeding at the distributor and at e-Mitra is a free or nominally priced government service, and no one can add a household that is not on the Ujjwala, BPL or NFSA rolls.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a gas cylinder cost under the Rajasthan subsidy scheme?
An eligible household ends up paying a net Rs 450 for one 14.2 kg domestic refill a month. You pay the full market price at delivery and the difference between that price and Rs 450 is returned to your bank account by Direct Benefit Transfer, generally in the first week of the following month.
Do I have to fill a form to get the Rs 450 cylinder in Rajasthan?
No separate application form is required. Ujjwala, BPL and NFSA households are identified automatically from the Jan Aadhaar and LPG databases. Your job is only to make sure the Jan Aadhaar number, Aadhaar and LPG consumer number are correctly seeded with your distributor.
How many subsidised cylinders can one family take in a year?
One subsidised refill per month, which works out to a maximum of 12 in a year. If a household buys two cylinders in the same month, only one of them carries the subsidy.
Who is not eligible for the Rajasthan LPG cylinder subsidy?
Households outside the Ujjwala, BPL and National Food Security Act lists are not eligible. Commercial connections, 5 kg and 19 kg cylinders, and families whose ration card has been cancelled or suspended are also excluded.
Why has my cylinder subsidy not been credited?
The usual causes are an LPG consumer number not linked to the Jan Aadhaar family ID, a bank account that is not Aadhaar-seeded, a name mismatch between the Aadhaar and the gas connection, or a refill taken outside the eligible month. Get the seeding corrected at your LPG distributor and at an e-Mitra kiosk.
Is the scheme still called Indira Gandhi Gas Cylinder Subsidy Yojana?
The scheme was launched in 2023 as the Indira Gandhi Gas Cylinder Subsidy Yojana and is now administered under the name Cooking Gas Cylinder Subsidy Yojana. The benefit itself continued, and coverage was widened to National Food Security Act households.
Where do I complain if my subsidy stops?
Call the Rajasthan Jan Soochna and Food Department helpline 18001806127, or take your Jan Aadhaar card and LPG passbook to the District Supply Officer. Complaints can also be filed on the Rajasthan Sampark grievance portal.
