Rajasthan Jan Aadhaar Yojana
Rajasthan state government scheme
Rajasthan Jan Aadhaar Yojana gives every resident family one 10-digit family identity number and a card that acts as the single gateway to state welfare schemes and Direct Benefit Transfer. Launched on 18 December 2019 under the "one number, one card, one identity" idea, enrolment is free through the SSO portal or any e-Mitra kiosk.
What is the Rajasthan Jan Aadhaar Yojana?
Rajasthan Jan Aadhaar Yojana is the state's family identity and benefit-delivery system, run by the Rajasthan Jan Aadhaar Authority under the Planning Department. According to the official Jan Aadhaar portal, the scheme was launched on 18 December 2019 and given a statutory basis through the Rajasthan Jan Aadhaar Authority Act, 2020 (Act No. 3 of 2020), with the Rajasthan Jan Aadhaar Authority Rules following on 4 August 2021.
The idea the portal itself uses is short: "one number, one card, one identity." Every resident family of Rajasthan is enrolled once, gets a single family identity number and a physical or downloadable card, and every state welfare scheme then reads that record instead of asking the family to prove the same facts again. Jan Aadhaar replaced the earlier Bhamashah card, and Bhamashah families were migrated into the new system rather than made to enrol from scratch.
Jan Aadhaar is not a cash scheme. Jan Aadhaar is the plumbing underneath the cash schemes. The portal states its own objectives as building a demographic and socio-economic database of state residents, enabling Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and non-cash benefits closer to home after Aadhaar/Jan Aadhaar authentication, widening e-commerce access, strengthening technical infrastructure, promoting financial inclusion, and determining scheme eligibility for families.
What the record actually contains
- Family composition, with one member marked as the head of the family.
- Aadhaar-authenticated identity for each member.
- Bank account details used for DBT.
- Address, mobile number, dates of birth, and socio-economic details that decide eligibility for schemes such as pensions, scholarships and ration.
Who is eligible for a Jan Aadhaar card?
You can register if:
- Your family is a resident family of Rajasthan. The Jan Aadhaar portal is explicit that "all resident families of the state are eligible to register and obtain Jan Aadhaar card."
- Each member of the family has an Aadhaar number for authentication.
- At least one working mobile number can be recorded against the family.
You are not eligible, or cannot apply, if:
- Your family does not reside in Rajasthan. Jan Aadhaar is a state resident identity, not a national one, and a family living outside the state cannot enrol.
- You want a second, separate family record while already listed in another family. Duplicate enrolment is blocked by Aadhaar de-duplication. A member who has married or genuinely separated must first be removed from the old family record before being added to a new one.
- You are applying on behalf of an individual rather than a family. Jan Aadhaar is issued family-wise; an unmarried adult living alone is treated as a single-member family, not as an exception.
There is no income ceiling, no caste restriction and no age bar for enrolment. Income and category are recorded so that other schemes can test them, but they do not gate Jan Aadhaar itself.
What documents are required for Jan Aadhaar enrolment?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Aadhaar of every member | Yes | Enrolment is Aadhaar-authenticated for each member |
| Proof of residence in Rajasthan | Yes | Ration card, electricity bill, voter ID or domicile |
| Bank passbook of head of family | Yes | The DBT destination account for most state schemes |
| Mobile number | Yes | Receives OTP, DBT alerts and scheme messages |
| Date-of-birth proof per member | No | Needed where a scheme has an age condition |
| Caste or category certificate | No | Recorded for category-linked schemes |
Keep the spelling of names identical across Aadhaar, the bank passbook and the Jan Aadhaar form. A name mismatch is the single most common cause of failed DBT credits later.
How to apply for a Jan Aadhaar card online
- Open sso.rajasthan.gov.in and create a Single Sign On (SSO) account, or sign in if you already have an SSO ID.
- From the citizen apps list, open the Jan Aadhaar application and choose Enrolment.
- Fill in the family details, marking one member as the head of the family. An adult woman aged 18 or above is recorded as head wherever the family has one; otherwise the eldest adult male is recorded.
- Add each member with name, relationship, date of birth and Aadhaar number, then complete the Aadhaar authentication step.
- Enter the bank account details of the head of the family for DBT.
- Upload the supporting documents and submit the form.
- Save the enrolment number shown on the acknowledgement screen. Use it on janaadhaar.rajasthan.gov.in to track the application.
- Once the application is verified, download the e-card from the portal's "Get e-Card" option using the enrolment or family number and an OTP.
How to apply for Jan Aadhaar offline
- Visit your nearest e-Mitra kiosk, or an e-Mitra Plus self-service machine at a gram panchayat, with the Aadhaar cards of all family members, the bank passbook and a residence proof.
- Ask the operator to file a Jan Aadhaar enrolment for your family, and check the entries on screen before the form is submitted, especially the spelling of names and the bank account number.
- Give the biometric or OTP authentication for each member as prompted.
- Collect the printed acknowledgement with the enrolment number and keep it until the card is issued.
Village-level enrolment and correction camps are also held periodically by the district administration. Those camps use the same e-Mitra software, so a form filed there follows an identical path.
How to check Jan Aadhaar status and download the card
- Open janaadhaar.rajasthan.gov.in.
- Choose Know your Jan Aadhaar ID / Enrolment Status.
- Enter your enrolment number, family number, Aadhaar number or registered mobile number, whichever you have.
- Complete the OTP sent to the registered mobile number.
- The screen shows whether the family is enrolled, and the Get e-Card option downloads the card as a PDF you can print.
The same portal also carries an Aadhaar seeding status check, which tells you whether each member's Aadhaar has been successfully verified against the family record. If a member shows as unseeded, that member will not be counted by schemes that authenticate through Jan Aadhaar.
How to correct or update Jan Aadhaar details
Jan Aadhaar records go stale, and almost every stopped payment in Rajasthan traces back to one of a handful of stale fields. The portal supports edits through the Edit Family / Edit Member option in the SSO application, and e-Mitra operators can do the same work.
The changes people need most often are:
- Adding a newborn to the family record so the child appears in health and nutrition schemes.
- Moving a newly married woman from her parents' family to her husband's. The removal from the old family has to be done first; the system will not allow one person to sit in two families.
- Changing the bank account, after a branch merger or an account closure. Until this is done, DBT will keep failing against the dead account.
- Correcting a name or date of birth to match Aadhaar exactly.
- Updating the mobile number, without which no OTP-based service works.
Why Jan Aadhaar-linked payments fail
- Bank account not correct or not active in the Jan Aadhaar record, so the DBT credit is returned.
- Name mismatch between Aadhaar, the bank account and the Jan Aadhaar entry.
- Aadhaar of a member not seeded or not authenticated, leaving that person invisible to the scheme even though the family is enrolled.
- Member listed in two families, which suspends the record pending verification.
- Mobile number belongs to someone else, so OTPs never reach the family and applications stall at the authentication step.
Fixing all of these starts in the same place, the Jan Aadhaar edit screen, and none of them needs a fresh enrolment.
Which schemes use Jan Aadhaar?
Jan Aadhaar is now the default eligibility check for Rajasthan state benefits. Social security pension payments, the state health insurance cover, ration entitlements under the food security law, girl-child and scholarship schemes, and the wheat sale registration on mspproc.rajasthan.gov.in all read the Jan Aadhaar family record. The Jan Soochna portal at jansoochna.rajasthan.gov.in publishes scheme-wise beneficiary information drawn from the same data, and lets any citizen look up who in their area is receiving what.
This is why the card matters even though it pays nothing by itself. A family without a correct Jan Aadhaar record is effectively invisible to the state welfare system, however eligible its members may be on paper.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Rajasthan Jan Aadhaar number?
Rajasthan Jan Aadhaar is a family identity number issued by the Rajasthan Jan Aadhaar Authority under the Planning Department, and every enrolled family gets one number plus one card. Each individual member also gets a separate member identity number linked to the family number. The scheme was launched on 18 December 2019 and replaced the earlier Bhamashah card.
Is Jan Aadhaar the same as Aadhaar?
No. Aadhaar is a central identity number issued to an individual by UIDAI, while Jan Aadhaar is a Rajasthan state number issued to a family. Jan Aadhaar uses Aadhaar for authentication, so you need Aadhaar to enrol, but the two numbers are different and serve different purposes.
Is there any fee to get a Jan Aadhaar card?
No, enrolment is free. Applying yourself through sso.rajasthan.gov.in costs nothing, and an e-Mitra kiosk may charge only the small government-notified service charge for assisted work. No agent can charge you for "getting your name added" to Jan Aadhaar.
Who can be the head of the family in Jan Aadhaar?
An adult woman of the family aged 18 years or above is registered as the head of the family wherever one is present. Where no adult woman is part of the family, the eldest adult male member is recorded as the head instead.
Which Rajasthan schemes need a Jan Aadhaar number?
Most Rajasthan state schemes now require it, because Jan Aadhaar is the state's Direct Benefit Transfer backbone. Social security pensions, the state health cover, wheat sale registration on the MSP portal, scholarship schemes and ration entitlements are all validated against Jan Aadhaar data.
How do I check my Jan Aadhaar status or download my e-card?
Use the "Know your Jan Aadhaar ID / Enrolment Status" and "Get e-Card" links on janaadhaar.rajasthan.gov.in. Enter your enrolment or family number along with the registered mobile number, complete the OTP, and the card can be downloaded as a PDF.
How do I add a newborn or a new bride to my Jan Aadhaar?
Sign in to sso.rajasthan.gov.in, open the Jan Aadhaar application and use the "Add Member" or "Edit Family" option, or take the documents to an e-Mitra kiosk. A new bride must first be removed from her parents' family record before she can be added to the husband's family.
What is the helpline for Jan Aadhaar problems?
Call the state toll-free number 181 or write to janaadhaarsupport@rajasthan.gov.in. District-level Jan Aadhaar helpdesks operate from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on working days.
