What is MAA Voucher Yojana?

MAA Voucher Yojana is a maternal health scheme of the Medical, Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Rajasthan. The scheme gives every eligible pregnant woman a free sonography at an empanelled diagnostic centre, delivered through a QR-code e-voucher sent to her mobile phone by SMS.

MAA stands for Mukhyamantri Ayushman Aarogya, and the scheme is often written locally as Maa Voucher Yojana. Rajasthan ran a pilot from 8 March 2024 in three districts and rolled the scheme out statewide on 8 August 2024.

The problem the scheme solves is specific. Government hospitals in rural Rajasthan often have no working sonography machine or no radiologist, while private centres in the same town charge for the scan. MAA Voucher Yojana lets the state buy that scan from the private centre on the woman's behalf, so the distance to a functioning ultrasound machine, and not the ability to pay, becomes the only constraint.

Key features

  • Free sonography for pregnant women who have completed 84 days of pregnancy.
  • Voucher delivered as a QR code by SMS, valid for 30 days.
  • Usable at both government and empanelled private sonography centres.
  • A second free sonography where a medical officer advises one.
  • No application form and no cash handling by the beneficiary.

Who is eligible for MAA Voucher Yojana?

A pregnant woman qualifies if:

  • She is a resident of Rajasthan and holds a Jan Aadhaar family identity.
  • She has completed at least 84 days (12 weeks) of pregnancy.
  • Her pregnancy is registered in PCTS, the state's Pregnancy and Child Tracking System, at any government hospital, community health centre, primary health centre or sub-centre.
  • She is enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan ANC process at a government facility.

A woman cannot apply, or her voucher will not be issued, if:

  • She has not completed 84 days of pregnancy. The 84-day threshold is a hard gate in the system and no voucher generates before it.
  • Her pregnancy is not registered in PCTS. A pregnancy tracked only at a private clinic produces no voucher.
  • She has no working mobile number on the PCTS record, because the voucher is delivered by SMS and cannot be issued on paper alone.
  • She is not a resident of Rajasthan.
  • She is seeking the scan for sex determination, this is prohibited under the PCPNDT Act and no scheme voucher can be used for it.

An expired voucher is not a rejection. A woman whose 30-day window has lapsed can return to the same government facility and have a fresh voucher generated.

What benefit does MAA Voucher Yojana provide?

MAA Voucher Yojana pays for the sonography itself rather than transferring money to the woman.

  • First sonography free, typically in the second or third trimester once 84 days of pregnancy are complete.
  • Second sonography free where the treating medical officer records that a repeat scan is medically necessary.
  • No out-of-pocket payment at the centre. The Rajasthan government settles the bill with the empanelled provider against the scanned QR code.

According to figures published by the Rajasthan government in 2025, more than 1.77 lakh women had been issued QR-code coupons under the scheme and sonography services were being delivered through roughly 1,271 authorised centres across the state.

How to apply for MAA Voucher Yojana

MAA Voucher Yojana has no form to fill. The steps below are the real sequence a pregnant woman follows.

  1. Register the pregnancy at a government health facility. Visit the nearest sub-centre, PHC, CHC or district hospital with your Aadhaar card, Jan Aadhaar card and mobile phone, and ask the ANM to register the pregnancy in PCTS. Note down the PCTS registration number.
  2. Attend an antenatal check-up after 84 days of pregnancy. The Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan days, the 9th, 18th and 27th of each month — are the designated days, but routine ANC visits also work.
  3. Ask the medical officer in charge to generate the MAA voucher. The officer verifies your identity, an OTP is sent to your registered mobile number, and the system issues a QR-code voucher in your name.
  4. Receive the QR code by SMS and save the message. The voucher is valid for 30 days from the date of issue.
  5. Choose an empanelled sonography centre from the list of authorised centres available at the health facility, and book a slot.
  6. Carry your Aadhaar card and the SMS to the centre. The centre scans the QR code, performs the sonography, and uploads the report.
  7. Collect the sonography report and take it back to the medical officer at your next antenatal visit so the finding is recorded on your Mamta card.

How to check the status of your MAA voucher

  1. Check the SMS on your registered mobile number. It carries the voucher code and the issue date.
  2. Ask the ANM or ASHA worker in your area, who can view your PCTS record and confirm whether a voucher is live, used or expired.
  3. Visit the government facility that issued the voucher, where the medical officer can look up the entry in the PCTS system.
  4. If the voucher has expired unused, request a fresh voucher at the same facility. There is no penalty for a lapsed voucher.

Why does a MAA voucher fail?

  • Fewer than 84 days of pregnancy at the time of the request, so the system refuses to generate the voucher.
  • Pregnancy not registered in PCTS, usually because all check-ups were done at a private clinic.
  • Wrong or inactive mobile number on the PCTS record, so the SMS never arrives. Get the number corrected at the health facility.
  • Voucher expired because the 30-day window passed before the scan.
  • Centre not empanelled. A private centre outside the scheme cannot redeem the QR code, whatever it tells the patient.
  • Aadhaar OTP failure at the time of generation, if the mobile number linked to Aadhaar is not the number in hand.

Where to complain about MAA Voucher Yojana

  • Medical and health helpline: 104. The Rajasthan health department's toll-free line, for refusal of service or a demand for payment.
  • Rajasthan Sampark: 181 for a general state grievance with a tracking number.
  • Block Chief Medical and Health Officer or the CMHO of the district for complaints against a specific empanelled sonography centre.
  • PCPNDT district cell if any centre offers to disclose the sex of the foetus, which is a criminal offence.

The sonography under MAA Voucher Yojana is completely free. No empanelled centre may charge a woman holding a valid QR-code voucher, and any such demand should be reported to the CMHO office along with the voucher SMS as evidence.

Frequently asked questions

What does MAA Voucher Yojana give a pregnant woman?

MAA Voucher Yojana gives a free sonography at an empanelled private or government diagnostic centre, paid for by the Rajasthan government instead of the woman. A second sonography is also free if a medical officer advises it.

Who is eligible for MAA Voucher Yojana?

Pregnant women resident in Rajasthan who have completed at least 84 days of pregnancy are eligible. The pregnancy must be registered in the state's PCTS pregnancy tracking system, which happens at any government hospital, CHC, PHC or sub-centre.

How long is the MAA voucher valid?

The QR-code voucher is valid for 30 days from the date it is issued. If the scan is not done within that window the voucher lapses and a fresh one has to be generated at the health facility.

Do I need to fill an application form for MAA Voucher Yojana?

No application form is required. The medical officer in charge generates the QR-code voucher in the woman's name during an antenatal visit and the system sends it to her registered mobile number by SMS.

On which days are MAA vouchers issued?

Vouchers are issued on the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan days — the 9th, 18th and 27th of every month — and also during routine antenatal check-ups at government facilities.

Can I use the MAA voucher at any private sonography centre?

No. The voucher works only at sonography centres empanelled under the scheme and registered on the state portal. The list of authorised centres is available at the government facility that issues the voucher.

Does MAA Voucher Yojana allow sex determination of the foetus?

No. Every sonography under the scheme is done strictly under the PCPNDT Act, which prohibits disclosing the sex of the foetus. Centres must maintain Form F records for each scan.

What does the MAA voucher cost?

Nothing. The scan is free to the woman and the Rajasthan government reimburses the empanelled centre directly. Any centre demanding a payment against a valid voucher should be reported on the 104 health helpline.
