Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana is a Chhattisgarh Panchayat and Rural Development Department housing scheme that pays Rs 1,20,000 in plain areas and Rs 1,30,000 in hilly and inaccessible areas to houseless families to build a pucca house of at least 25 square metres, plus 90 to 95 days of MGNREGA wages. Apply free at your gram panchayat.
What is Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana in Chhattisgarh?
Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana is the state housing scheme of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, Government of Chhattisgarh. The scheme pays a construction grant to houseless families and families living in kutcha houses so that they can build a pucca house of their own.
Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana was launched in July 2023 under the name Mukhyamantri Grameen Awas Nyay Yojana. The government that took office at the end of 2023 renamed it Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, keeping the assistance amounts and the beneficiary base intact. Readers searching for "Grameen Awas Nyay Yojana" or "CM Awas Yojana Chhattisgarh" are looking at the same programme.
The scheme exists because a large number of Chhattisgarh families were left out of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin. The central list was drawn from an older deprivation survey. Chhattisgarh conducted its own socio-economic survey in 2023, and the households identified as houseless in that survey form the pool from which Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana beneficiaries are selected.
What a sanctioned beneficiary receives
- Rs 1,20,000 in plain, non-IP (non-Integrated Programme) areas.
- Rs 1,30,000 in hilly and inaccessible IP areas, where transporting material costs more.
- Rs 12,000 additional assistance for constructing a toilet.
- 95 days of MGNREGA unskilled wage employment in IP areas, or 90 days in non-IP areas, paid separately from the grant.
What must be built
The sanctioned house must be at least 25 square metres in area and must include a separate kitchen. The house is built by the beneficiary family themselves, this is a grant, not a contractor-delivered house, which is why the MGNREGA wage component matters, since the family's own labour on the site is paid for.
Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana?
You can be selected if:
- You are a permanent resident of Chhattisgarh.
- Your family is houseless or lives in a kutcha house, with no pucca house anywhere in the family's name.
- You own at least 25 square metres of land on which the house can be built.
- Your household appears in the 2023 socio-economic survey list of houseless families maintained by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department.
- You have an Aadhaar-seeded bank account to receive the instalments.
You are not eligible if:
- Your family already received a house under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Gramin or Urban. The same family cannot draw two housing grants.
- You already own a pucca house, including one built earlier under any government scheme.
- You have no land of your own to build on. Landless families must first obtain a homestead patta from the revenue department or the gram sabha.
- Your household does not appear in the survey list and the gram sabha does not approve its inclusion.
- The land offered is encroached, disputed or forest land without a recognised title.
Being eligible is not the same as being sanctioned. Sanctions are issued against an annual target for each district, so an eligible family in the list may wait for a later year's allotment.

How to apply for Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana
- Visit your gram panchayat office if you live in a rural area, or the nagar nigam, nagar palika or nagar panchayat office if you live in an urban area, and ask for the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana application form. Forms are free of cost.
- Ask the panchayat secretary to confirm whether your household name already appears in the 2023 socio-economic survey list of houseless families. This check saves months, because selection is made from that list.
- Fill the form with your family details, the survey number and area of the land you will build on, and your Aadhaar-seeded bank account number.
- Attach the land document, Aadhaar, bank passbook, houseless certificate and photograph, and submit the set at the same office.
- Collect the receipt or acknowledgement from the panchayat secretary or ward officer. Do not leave without written acknowledgement.
- Allow the gram sabha to verify and approve the application, followed by a field inspection of the plot by the panchayat and block officials.
- Once the sanction letter is issued, start construction and inform the panchayat at each stage so that geo-tagged photographs can be taken for the next instalment.
There is no online application form. The portal at gany.cgstate.gov.in is a monitoring and publication system, used for beneficiary lists and progress tracking, not for accepting citizen applications.
How is the money paid out?
Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana assistance is released in instalments tied to verified construction stages, not as a single lump sum. The usual sequence is a first instalment on sanction, a second at plinth level, a third at lintel or roof level, and a final instalment on completion, with geo-tagged photographs uploaded and verified before each release.
All payments go by Direct Benefit Transfer into the beneficiary's Aadhaar-seeded bank account. Nothing is paid in cash and nothing is routed through a contractor.
The MGNREGA wage days — 95 in IP areas, 90 in non-IP areas; are credited separately through the MGNREGA payment system against the family's job card, and depend on the family actually working on site and having the muster roll recorded.
How to check your Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana status
- Open gany.cgstate.gov.in and look for the beneficiary or progress report section.
- Select your district, block and gram panchayat to open the published list for your area.
- Search for your name or your registration number in that list to see whether your household is selected and which instalment has been released.
- Ask the panchayat secretary or the block Rural Development office for the sanction status if your name appears in the survey list but not in the sanctioned list.
- Call 0771-2512389 for a state-level query, or write to the department mail address published on the portal.
Track instalment credits in your own bank passbook as well. A released instalment sometimes fails to reach a bank account that is not properly Aadhaar-seeded, and the failure is only visible in the passbook.
Why applications and instalments get rejected or stopped
- Name not in the 2023 survey list. This is the largest single reason for a household not being sanctioned, and it is fixed by getting the gram sabha to approve an addition, not by re-submitting the same form.
- Existing PMAY beneficiary. The state database cross-checks against the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana list, and a duplicate is rejected automatically.
- No clear land title. Disputed, encroached or jointly held land without consent stops the sanction at field inspection.
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, so the DBT instalment fails.
- Construction stalled. If the plinth or lintel stage is not reached and photographed, the next instalment is simply not released. Families sometimes wait for money that is waiting for them.
- Money diverted. Where a released instalment is found not to have been used on construction, the sanction is cancelled and recovery is initiated.
- House built smaller than 25 square metres or without a separate kitchen, which fails the completion check.

Frequently asked questions
How much money does Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana give in Chhattisgarh?
The scheme pays Rs 1,20,000 in plain (non-IP) areas and Rs 1,30,000 in hilly and inaccessible (IP) areas for building a pucca house. An additional Rs 12,000 is available for constructing a toilet, and the beneficiary is also entitled to MGNREGA unskilled wages during construction.
Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana?
A permanent resident of Chhattisgarh who has no pucca house, owns at least 25 square metres of land to build on, and has not already received a house under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Selection is made from the state socio-economic survey of 2023.
Is Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana the same as Grameen Awas Nyay Yojana?
Yes, in substance. The scheme was launched in July 2023 as Mukhyamantri Grameen Awas Nyay Yojana and was renamed Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana by the government that took office at the end of 2023. The assistance amounts and the beneficiary survey base carried over.
Can I apply online for Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana?
No. There is no online application form. Applications are collected offline at the gram panchayat in rural areas and at the municipal or nagar panchayat office in urban areas. The portal gany.cgstate.gov.in is used to publish lists and track progress, not to accept applications.
How many days of MGNREGA work come with the house?
A beneficiary is entitled to 95 days of MGNREGA unskilled wage employment in hilly and inaccessible (IP) areas and 90 days in plain (non-IP) areas, paid separately from the construction grant.
Is the money paid in one go?
No. The assistance is released in instalments tied to verified construction stages — typically at sanction, at plinth level, at lintel level and on completion — with geo-tagged photographs checked before each release.
What if I have no land of my own?
A family with no land cannot be sanctioned a house under this scheme, because the grant funds construction on the beneficiary's own plot. Landless families should first pursue a homestead patta from the revenue department or gram sabha and then apply.
Is there any fee to apply?
No. Application forms are free of cost at the gram panchayat or municipal office, and no official or agent may charge for including a name in the beneficiary list.
