What is the Internship Policy of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board?

Internship Policy of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board is the framework under which the state tourism body, MPTB, takes hospitality and tourism students into its own hotels, resorts and offices for structured on-the-job training. The Tourism Department runs it as a skill and talent-pipeline measure rather than as a welfare scheme: the state operates a large network of tourism properties, and those properties need trained staff who already know how a government tourism unit works.

An intern is attached to a unit head or a department head at the property or office where they are placed and works under supervision for the duration of the internship. The programme is not a classroom course. It is placement inside a working hotel, resort or office, with the stipend, certificate and completion report that a formal internship carries.

Two sessions run each year, a summer session roughly from May to July and a winter session roughly from October to December: each of three months, matching the vacation windows in most hotel management and tourism programmes.

Who can apply for the MPTB internship?

You can apply if:

  • You are currently enrolled in a government-recognised institute of hotel management, food craft, tourism or forest management.
  • Your course is one of the recognised streams: reported categories include MBA, BBA, BA or B.Com in tourism, B.Sc in hotel management, and diplomas in hospitality and food production.
  • Your institute is recognised by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board and is willing to recommend and forward your application.
  • You can arrange your own accommodation and food at the place of posting.
  • You have a bank account in your own name to receive the stipend by NEFT.

You cannot apply, or you are not eligible, if:

  • You are not currently a student. This is a student internship, not a job or a graduate traineeship, and passed-out candidates are outside its scope.
  • Your institute is not recognised by MPTB, or will not forward your application. Direct walk-in applications without institute backing are not the route the policy sets out.
  • Your course is unrelated to hospitality, tourism, food craft or forest management. General degree students without one of these specialisations are not the target group.
  • You are looking for a guaranteed job at the end. The internship ends with a certificate and a completion report, not an appointment.
  • You need housing or travel support. The policy expressly provides neither, and a student who cannot fund lodging near the posting cannot complete the placement.

Seats are capped per course category, reported at roughly 10 to 25 per category in a session, so eligibility does not guarantee a place.

What does an intern get?

Stipend. Interns are paid a monthly stipend as per MPTB norms, transferred by NEFT or RTGS to the intern's own bank account. Reported rates by category:

Category Reported monthly stipend
Forest management Rs 5,000
Hotel management / tourism degree courses Rs 2,500
Food production and hospitality diplomas Rs 1,500

These figures come from published summaries of the policy rather than from a current MPTB circular, so a student should confirm the rate applicable to their session with the Deputy Director (Skill Development) before joining. The policy itself fixes the stipend "as per MPTB norms", which means the number can be revised without the policy changing.

Certificate and report. MPTB issues a completion certificate to interns who finish successfully, and sends a completion report to the institute. For hotel management and tourism students whose curriculum requires industrial training credit, that report is the document the college needs.

What is not provided. No travel allowance. No accommodation. No mess or food arrangement. Interns budget for their own stay, and this is stated plainly in the policy rather than left ambiguous.

What documents are required?

How to apply for the MPTB internship

The internship is applied for offline, through the institute. There is no public online application form.

  1. Check the session dates with your institute's training and placement cell — summer runs roughly May to July, winter roughly October to December.
  2. Prepare the application letter, addressed to the Deputy Director (Skill Development), Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, naming the session you want, the duration, and your course.
  3. Get the bonafide certificate and the institute's recommendation. MPTB evaluates applications on institute recommendation and available seats, so a file forwarded by the college carries far more weight than one sent directly by a student.
  4. Attach the resume, previous semester marksheets and a passport photograph.
  5. Send or deliver the application about one month before the session starts, to: Deputy Director (Skill Development), MP Tourism Board, 6th Floor, Lily Trade Wing, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh 462008.
  6. Attend the interview if shortlisted. Selection includes an interview that may be held in person or virtually.
  7. Report to the allotted unit on the joining date with your identity proof and bank details, and work under the unit head or department head for the three months.
  8. Collect the completion certificate at the end, and confirm that the completion report has reached your institute.

How to check the status of an internship application

Because the process is offline, status is tracked through people rather than a portal:

  1. Ask your institute's placement cell, which forwarded the file and is normally the first to be told about shortlisting.
  2. Contact the Deputy Director (Skill Development) office at MPTB, Bhopal, quoting the date the application was sent and your course.
  3. Once placed, all operational questions, reporting time, duty roster, stipend date, go to the unit head at the property you are attached to.

Common reasons an application does not succeed

  • Sent too late. Applications are expected about a month before the session; a file arriving in the same week the session starts finds seats already allotted.
  • No institute recommendation. Direct student applications without the college forwarding them are the weakest category.
  • Course outside the recognised streams. Hospitality, food craft, tourism and forest management are the categories the policy names.
  • Seats full in that category. With roughly 10 to 25 seats per category per session, a good application can still miss out.
  • Institute not recognised by MPTB.
  • Interview not attended, including missed virtual interviews because a phone number or email was written incorrectly on the application.

Where to get help

  • Deputy Director (Skill Development), Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, 6th Floor, Lily Trade Wing, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh 462008, the office that receives and decides internship applications.
  • Your institute's training and placement cell, which handles the forwarding and follows up on shortlisting.
  • MP Tourism's public website, mptourism.com, for the Board's property list and general contact information.

No fee is charged for applying for an MPTB internship, and no agent has any role in placement. A student asked to pay for a "confirmed seat" is being defrauded.

A note on verification. The stipend slabs and seat numbers above appear in published summaries of the policy rather than in a currently accessible MPTB circular, and MPTB's own norms can be revised between sessions. Treat them as indicative and confirm the current figures with the Deputy Director (Skill Development) before you commit to a placement.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board internship?

The internship runs for three months. MPTB holds two sessions a year — a summer session roughly from May to July and a winter session roughly from October to December — and a student is placed at a hotel, resort or office under a unit head or department head for that period.

Is the MPTB internship paid?

Yes, interns receive a monthly stipend as per Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board norms, paid by NEFT or RTGS into the intern's own bank account. Reported rates run from about Rs 1,500 a month for hospitality and food production diploma students to about Rs 5,000 a month for forest management interns, but the current figure should be confirmed with MPTB.

Who can apply for the MPTB internship?

Students enrolled in government-recognised hotel management, food craft, tourism or forest management programmes can apply. That includes degree courses such as BBA, MBA, BA or B.Com in tourism and B.Sc in hotel management, and diplomas in hospitality and food production.

Can students from outside Madhya Pradesh apply?

Yes. Students from institutes outside Madhya Pradesh are eligible provided the institute is recognised by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, and the application comes with the institute's recommendation.

Does MPTB provide accommodation or travel allowance to interns?

No. The policy states that no travel allowance and no accommodation are provided, and interns arrange their own food and lodging. This is the single most important cost to plan for before accepting a placement far from home.

How do I apply for the internship?

Applications are submitted offline through the institute to the Deputy Director (Skill Development), MP Tourism Board, 6th Floor, Lily Trade Wing, Bhopal 462008, about one month before the session begins. There is no public online application portal for this internship.

Is a certificate given at the end?

Yes. The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board issues a certificate on successful completion of the internship, and the completion report is sent to the trainee's institute for its records.

How many seats are available?

Seats are limited and allotted per course category, reported in the range of roughly 10 to 25 positions per category per session. Because seats are capped, applications are selected on institute recommendation, academic record and an interview held in person or online.
