Marriage Grant for a Martyred Soldier's Sister or Daughter (Madhya Pradesh)
Madhya Pradesh state government scheme
Marriage Grant for a Martyred Soldier's Sister or Daughter pays Rs 51,000 from the Madhya Pradesh government at the wedding of a martyr's daughter or sister. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the increase from Rs 15,000 to Rs 51,000 on 20 October 2024. Families claim it offline through the Zila Sainik Welfare Office of their district.
What is the Madhya Pradesh marriage grant for a martyr's daughter or sister?
Marriage Grant for a Martyred Soldier's Sister or Daughter is a one-time cash grant of Rs 51,000 given by the Home Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh through the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Bhopal. The grant is paid at the marriage of a daughter or a sister of a soldier from Madhya Pradesh who died while in service.
Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav announced the enhancement from Rs 15,000 to Rs 51,000 on 20 October 2024, at a rally of ex-servicemen held at the Three EME Centre, Bairagarh, Bhopal. The old figure of Rs 15,000 had been unchanged for years and had stopped covering any meaningful share of a wedding's cost, which was the stated reason for revising it more than threefold.
The announcement was part of a package for martyrs' families rather than a single measure. In the same address the state raised the honorarium for a martyr's mother from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 a month, and changed how family assistance is split so that half goes to the widow and half to the parents instead of the whole amount going to the widow. Families reading about the marriage grant should check whether they are already drawing these other entitlements, since all of them are administered by the same Zila Sainik Welfare Office.
Who is eligible for the marriage grant?
A family can claim if:
- The soldier was a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh and died while in service.
- The bride is the daughter or the sister of that soldier.
- The martyr's family is enrolled with the Zila Sainik Welfare Office of its home district in Madhya Pradesh.
- The marriage has taken place, or is imminent, and can be evidenced by a marriage card, a registered marriage certificate or a panchayat or nagar palika entry.
Who is not eligible:
- Families of soldiers domiciled outside Madhya Pradesh, even if the family now lives in the state. Each state runs its own sainik welfare grants and the claim belongs to the state of domicile.
- Families of ex-servicemen who died after retirement from natural causes. That is a different category of ex-servicemen welfare, not the martyr's grant.
- Nieces, cousins and other relatives of the martyr. The relationship covered is daughter or sister.
- A family that cannot produce the casualty intimation or service death certificate linking the death to service.
What documents does the family need?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Proof the soldier died in service | Yes | Casualty intimation or death certificate from the record office or unit |
| Relationship proof of the bride | Yes | Birth certificate, family register or Samagra family record |
| MP domicile certificate | Yes | Of the martyr or the martyr's family |
| Marriage card or marriage certificate | Yes | A registered certificate is the cleanest proof of date |
| Aadhaar card of the bride | Yes | Identity of the person in whose name the grant is sanctioned |
| Bank passbook of the bride | Yes | Active account with correct IFSC for direct transfer |
| Zila Sainik Welfare Office registration | Yes | The family must already be on the district rolls |
How to apply for the marriage grant
- Confirm the family's registration with the Zila Sainik Welfare Office of your district. If the martyr's family is not yet enrolled, complete that first; nothing else can be sanctioned until the family is on the rolls.
- Collect the marriage grant application form from the Zila Sainik Welfare Office. It is issued free and is a short form.
- Attach the document set β proof of death in service, relationship proof of the bride, the MP domicile certificate, the marriage card or certificate, the bride's Aadhaar and her bank passbook first page.
- Submit the file at the Zila Sainik Welfare Office and take a dated acknowledgement with a reference number.
- Let the district verify and forward the case to the Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Bhopal, which issues the sanction order.
- Receive the Rs 51,000 by direct transfer into the bride's bank account.
File the claim close to the wedding date. Madhya Pradesh has not notified a hard time limit, but a claim submitted years after the marriage is far harder for the district to verify and is the situation in which files most often stall.
How to check the status of the claim
Status is tracked offline. Visit or telephone the Zila Sainik Welfare Office with the acknowledgement number and ask whether the file is under district verification, forwarded to Bhopal, or sanctioned. If the file has sat unmoved for an unreasonable period, lodge a complaint on the CM Helpline 181 against the Home Department. A helpline ticket has to be closed with a written reply, which is usually enough to get a stalled file moving.
Why marriage grant claims get held up
- Death not established as in service. A plain municipal death certificate is not enough; the district needs the casualty intimation or record office certificate.
- Relationship proof missing for a sister. Daughters are easy to establish from a birth certificate, sisters often are not. A family register or Samagra family record naming both siblings solves this.
- Domicile certificate in an old district name after Madhya Pradesh's district reorganisations.
- Name mismatch between the marriage certificate, Aadhaar and bank account of the bride.
- Bank account of the bride newly opened and KYC incomplete, which blocks the credit after sanction.
- Family not registered with the Zila Sainik Welfare Office at all, which is the most common reason a first-time claim goes nowhere.

A caution on figures: the Rs 51,000 amount, the earlier Rs 15,000 figure, the Rs 10,000 monthly honorarium for a martyr's mother and the half-and-half split of family assistance all come from the Chief Minister's announcement of 20 October 2024 as reported at the time. The Directorate of Sainik Welfare's own scheme booklet is the authority on the exact conditions, and a family should ask the Zila Sainik Welfare Officer for the current sanction order before planning around the amount.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the marriage grant for a martyr's daughter or sister in Madhya Pradesh?
Rs 51,000 is paid as a one-time marriage grant. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the raise from Rs 15,000 to Rs 51,000 on 20 October 2024 at an ex-servicemen rally at the Three EME Centre, Bairagarh, Bhopal.
Does the grant cover a sister as well as a daughter?
Yes, both. Madhya Pradesh's announcement covers the marriage of a martyr's daughter and of a martyr's sister, which matters because many soldiers who die young leave no daughter but do leave unmarried sisters dependent on the same household.
Who cannot claim this grant?
Families of soldiers domiciled outside Madhya Pradesh are not eligible, and neither are families of ex-servicemen who died after retirement from natural causes rather than in service. The grant is tied to a soldier killed while in service and to Madhya Pradesh domicile.
What else did the Madhya Pradesh government announce for martyrs' families in October 2024?
The same announcement raised the honorarium for a martyr's mother from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 a month, and changed the distribution of assistance to a martyr's family so that half goes to the widow and half to the parents.
Where does the family apply?
At the Zila Sainik Welfare Office of the district where the martyr's family is registered. The district office verifies the papers and forwards the case to the Directorate of Sainik Welfare in Bhopal for sanction.
Is there a limit on the number of daughters covered?
Madhya Pradesh has not published a per-family cap for this grant. Families with more than one daughter or sister to marry should ask the Zila Sainik Welfare Officer in writing before assuming a second claim will be sanctioned.
Is any fee charged?
No. The form and the process are free at the Zila Sainik Welfare Office. No agent is authorised to charge a martyr's family for filing this claim.
