Mahila Nirman Shramik Vivah Yojana
Tripura state government scheme
Mahila Nirman Shramik Vivah Yojana is a marriage assistance benefit of the Tripura Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board, a body constituted on 20 January 2007 under the Directorate of Labour. Registered female construction workers can claim one-time financial help for their own marriage by applying through the Labour Directorate.
What is Mahila Nirman Shramik Vivah Yojana?
Mahila Nirman Shramik Vivah Yojana is the marriage assistance benefit offered by the Tripura Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board, a statutory body that works under the Directorate of Labour, Government of Tripura. The Board was constituted on 20 January 2007 and exists to run welfare activities for construction workers, who are among the least protected groups in the unorganised sector.
The Board's welfare benefits are financed by the construction cess collected under the Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Cess Act, 1996, which places a small levy on the cost of construction work carried out in the state. According to figures reported by the Board, it has registered 44,389 construction workers and collected Rs 53.18 crore in cess, of which Rs 23.06 crore has been distributed to 26,729 beneficiaries across its schemes, marriage assistance among them.
Marriage assistance in Tripura, as described by the Board, is for a registered female member's own matrimonial ceremony. That framing matters, because in several other states the equivalent grant is written around the marriage of a worker's daughter. A reader who has seen a Punjab or Tamil Nadu marriage-grant page should not carry those terms across to Tripura.
An honest note on figures. We could not verify the current sanctioned amount of Tripura's marriage assistance on any Government of Tripura source. Welfare board rates are revised by board resolution, and a stale or borrowed number would do more harm than no number. This guide therefore states the scheme's structure and route accurately, and tells you exactly whom to ask for the rate.
Who is eligible for Tripura's construction worker marriage assistance?
You can claim if:
- You are a woman registered as a construction worker with the Tripura Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board.
- Your registration is live, meaning the annual contribution or renewal has been kept up to date. A lapsed registration is the single most common reason a welfare board claim fails.
- The claim is for your own marriage, in line with how the Board describes the benefit.
- You can produce documentary proof of the marriage and of your identity.
Registration itself carries statutory conditions. Under the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996, a person can be registered as a beneficiary only if she is between 18 and 60 years of age and has worked as a construction worker for not less than 90 days during the preceding twelve months.
You are not eligible if:
- You have never registered with the Welfare Board, however long you have worked on construction sites. Registration is the gateway to every benefit the Board gives.
- Your registration has lapsed and has not been renewed.
- You are outside the 18 to 60 age band set by the Act.
- You work in a trade that does not fall within the definition of building and other construction work under the Act.
- You have already drawn the same marriage assistance once. Welfare board marriage grants are one-time benefits per eligible event.
What documents are required?

Carry originals for verification and one photocopy set for the file. Keep the receipt the labour office gives you; it is your only proof of the date of claim.
How to apply for Mahila Nirman Shramik Vivah Yojana
- Confirm your registration is live. Take your Welfare Board registration card to the district labour office and have the renewal position checked. If the contribution is in arrears, clear it first, because a claim filed against a lapsed registration will be returned.
- Register first if you have never done so. Apply to the Directorate of Labour for beneficiary registration under the BOCW Act, with age proof, Aadhaar and evidence of at least 90 days of construction work in the previous twelve months. Tripura runs its labour registrations and licences through the SWAAGAT portal at swaagat.tripura.gov.in.
- Ask the district labour office for the marriage assistance claim form and for the amount currently sanctioned by the Board. Request a copy of the governing board resolution or circular so you know the conditions in writing.
- Fill the form and attach the documents listed above, including proof of the marriage and your bank passbook copy.
- Submit the claim at the district labour office and collect a dated acknowledgement carrying your registration number.
- Follow up on verification. The labour office verifies registration status, the work record and the marriage proof before the Board sanctions payment into your bank account.
How to check the status of your claim
Tripura does not publish a public claim-tracking screen for construction worker welfare benefits. Status is checked in person or by telephone at the district labour office where the claim was filed. Quote the acknowledgement number and the date of submission every time you follow up, and note down the name of the official who answers. Where the claim was routed to the Board's headquarters, the district office can tell you the date on which the file was forwarded.
Why marriage assistance claims get rejected
- Registration lapsed at the time of the marriage or of the claim.
- Claim filed late, after whatever time limit the Board's rules set from the date of marriage. Ask for that limit at the time you collect the form.
- Marriage proof inadequate, for example an invitation card with no certificate from the local body.
- Name mismatch between the registration card, Aadhaar and the bank account.
- Benefit already drawn once by the same member.
- Work record short of 90 days in the qualifying year, which invalidates the registration itself rather than only the claim.
Most of these are fixable. A lapsed registration can usually be revived on payment of arrears, and a document mismatch is corrected at the source record rather than by refiling the claim repeatedly.

Frequently asked questions
Who can claim Mahila Nirman Shramik Vivah Yojana in Tripura?
A female construction worker whose registration with the Tripura Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board is live can claim marriage assistance for her own marriage. The Board, constituted on 20 January 2007 under the Directorate of Labour, restricts every one of its welfare benefits to registered members, so registration must be completed and kept renewed before the claim is made.
How much money does the Tripura marriage assistance scheme pay?
The exact amount is not published on any Tripura government source we were able to verify, so this guide does not state a figure. Marriage assistance amounts under construction worker welfare boards are revised by board resolution from time to time. Ask the Welfare Board or your district labour office for the rate currently in force before you apply.
Does the benefit cover the marriage of a worker's daughter?
The Tripura benefit as described by the Welfare Board is for the registered female member's own marriage. Several other states run a separate daughter's-marriage grant for male and female members alike, but that is a different scheme and should not be assumed to apply in Tripura. Confirm the covered relationship with the Board before applying.
How do I register as a construction worker in Tripura?
Apply to the Directorate of Labour for registration with the Tripura Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board. Under the Building and Other Construction Workers Act, 1996, an applicant must be between 18 and 60 years of age and must have worked at least 90 days as a construction worker in the previous twelve months. Tripura routes labour registrations and licences through the SWAAGAT portal.
Where does the money for this scheme come from?
The money comes from the construction cess collected under the Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Cess Act, 1996, which levies a charge on the cost of construction work. The Tripura Board has reported collecting Rs 53.18 crore in cess and disbursing Rs 23.06 crore to 26,729 beneficiaries across its schemes, against 44,389 registered workers.
Can I apply online for this scheme?
No fully online application route for marriage assistance is published. Tripura's SWAAGAT portal handles labour registrations and licences, and the Welfare Board's own site at tbocwwb.tripura.gov.in carries scheme information, but the claim itself is normally submitted to the district labour office with original documents for verification.
What other benefits does the Tripura construction workers' board give?
The Board runs a group of welfare benefits alongside marriage assistance, including education support for workers' children, maternity benefit, medical treatment assistance, pension, death compensation, funeral assistance and supply of school materials. All of them require live registration with the Board.
What should I do if my claim is not settled?
Take the matter first to the district labour office that received the claim, quoting your registration number and the date of submission. If that does not resolve it, write to the Directorate of Labour, Government of Tripura, which administers the Welfare Board.
