What is Banglar Yuva Sathi?

Banglar Yuva Sathi is an unemployment allowance scheme of the Government of West Bengal, administered by the Department of Youth Services and Sports. The scheme pays Rs 1,500 a month to unemployed young residents of the state by Direct Benefit Transfer, for up to five years or until the beneficiary finds work, whichever is earlier.

The Bengali name is written Banglar Yuba Sathi, and in everyday speech people often call the payment bekar bhata, the unemployment allowance. That framing is accurate. Unlike an earlier West Bengal scheme, Banglar Yuva Sathi is not tied to a training course or a placement condition, it is a monthly cash transfer meant to cover living costs and job-search expenses while a young person looks for work.

Banglar Yuva Sathi was announced in the state's interim budget with an allocation reported at Rs 5,000 crore, and the first monthly payment was released on 1 April 2026, ahead of the originally indicated 15 August 2026 start.

How is Banglar Yuva Sathi different from Yuvashree Prakalpa?

West Bengal now runs two monthly assistance schemes for jobless youth, and the overlap confuses applicants.

Yuvashree Prakalpa, launched in 2013, pays a monthly amount to unemployed youth who are registered with the state Employment Bank. It was built around skill development, the money being intended partly to help a candidate fund training and improve employability. Its age band is wider at the lower and upper ends.

Banglar Yuva Sathi, introduced in 2026, is a direct unemployment allowance with no training condition and a narrower age band of 21 to 40.

The two cannot be drawn together. If you are 18 to 20 years old, or 41 to 45, Yuvashree Prakalpa is the only one of the two available to you. If you fall in the 21 to 40 band, you must choose one.

Who is eligible for Banglar Yuva Sathi, and who is not eligible?

You can apply if:

  • You are a permanent resident of West Bengal.
  • You are aged 21 to 40 years.
  • You have passed the Madhyamik (Class 10) examination or an equivalent examination from a recognised board.
  • You are currently unemployed, in neither full-time nor part-time work.
  • You hold a bank account in your own name that is linked to Aadhaar, so the monthly DBT credit can reach you.

Students who hold a state scholarship are not automatically shut out. Reporting on the scheme indicates that youth enrolled under Aikyashree, Medhashree, Shikhyashree and the Student Credit Card are still able to apply, because those are education benefits rather than monthly income support.

You cannot apply if:

  • You are not a permanent resident of West Bengal.
  • You are outside the 21 to 40 age band.
  • You have not passed Madhyamik or an equivalent examination.
  • You are employed, in a full-time or a part-time job, or self-employed with a running income.
  • You are a beneficiary of Yuvashree Arpan or Yuva Utsaha Prakalpa.
  • You already receive another monthly assistance payment from the state government. The scheme is not meant to stack on top of an existing monthly transfer.

No family income ceiling has been officially announced for Banglar Yuva Sathi. Where a source quotes an income limit, treat it as unverified until the department publishes one.

How much does Banglar Yuva Sathi pay, and for how long?

Banglar Yuva Sathi pays Rs 1,500 per month. The payment is made by Direct Benefit Transfer into the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account, so there is no cheque to collect and no office to visit each month.

Support runs for a maximum of five years, or until the beneficiary finds employment, whichever comes first. Over the full five years that adds up to Rs 90,000.

Payment stops when the beneficiary starts work. The self-declaration signed at application makes this an obligation, and continuing to draw the allowance after taking a job is treated as a false declaration.

How to apply for Banglar Yuva Sathi

The first application window has closed. The steps below describe the process used in that window, and are the process to expect if a fresh window opens.

  1. Open the official portal at yubasathi.wb.gov.in during an open application window.
  2. Select the new application option and register with your mobile number, then verify the OTP sent to it.
  3. Fill in the application form: name, date of birth, Aadhaar number, permanent address in West Bengal, Madhyamik roll and year, highest qualification and present employment status.
  4. Enter your bank account number and IFSC code, in your own name and linked to Aadhaar.
  5. Upload the scanned documents: Aadhaar card, Madhyamik marksheet, residence proof, bank passbook first page, photograph and the signed self-declaration of unemployment.
  6. Submit the form and save the application number shown on the confirmation screen. You will need it to check status.
  7. Track progress under the application status link in the quick-links section of the portal.

Applications were also accepted offline at Duare Sarkar camps, the state's doorstep-service camps. The state set up dedicated registration camps to enrol jobless youth for the scheme, and those camps were the main route for applicants without internet access.

How do you check your Banglar Yuva Sathi status?

  1. Open yubasathi.wb.gov.in.
  2. Use the application status link in the quick-tips or quick-links section.
  3. Enter your application number and submit.
  4. If the status does not load, or shows a rejection you do not understand, call the help desk on 6292248888 or write to yubasathi2026@gmail.com.

Why do Banglar Yuva Sathi applications get rejected?

  • Age outside the 21 to 40 band on the date of application.
  • No Madhyamik pass certificate, or a board qualification that is not recognised as equivalent.
  • Name mismatch between Aadhaar and the bank account, which is the commonest technical rejection and also the commonest reason a payment bounces.
  • Bank account not seeded with Aadhaar, so DBT cannot reach it.
  • Already drawing another monthly state assistance, including Yuvashree Arpan or Yuva Utsaha Prakalpa.
  • Employment detected during verification, whether declared or not.
  • Residence proof not accepted, most often when the address on the document is outside West Bengal.

Fix a name or bank mismatch at your bank branch first, then update the record before the next window rather than filing a fresh application on top of the old one.

No. The official portal at yubasathi.wb.gov.in states that the online application submission period for the scheme has ended. The first window closed on 26 February 2026, and no fresh window had been announced as of August 2026. Watch the portal and Duare Sarkar camp notices for a reopening.

Can I take Banglar Yuva Sathi and Yuvashree together?

No. A person cannot draw Banglar Yuva Sathi and Yuvashree Prakalpa at the same time, and beneficiaries of Yuvashree Arpan or Yuva Utsaha Prakalpa are excluded. Anyone already receiving another monthly state government assistance payment is also ineligible.

When did the first Banglar Yuva Sathi payment reach beneficiaries?

The first monthly payment under Banglar Yuva Sathi was released on 1 April 2026. The state had originally indicated an August 2026 start and advanced it. Payments are made by Direct Benefit Transfer, so no beneficiary needs to collect money in person.

What is the age limit for Banglar Yuva Sathi?

Banglar Yuva Sathi is open to applicants aged 21 to 40 years. Anyone aged 18 to 20 or 41 to 45 falls outside this band and should look at Yuvashree Prakalpa instead, which uses the Employment Bank registration route.

Does Banglar Yuva Sathi stop if I get a job?

Yes. Banglar Yuva Sathi is an unemployment allowance, so payment stops once the beneficiary takes up full-time or part-time employment. Continuing to draw the allowance after finding work is a false declaration and can lead to recovery of the amount paid.
