West Bengal SC/ST Post-Matric Scholarship (OASIS)
West Bengal state government scheme
West Bengal SC/ST Post-Matric Scholarship is a Backward Classes Welfare Department scheme paying tuition reimbursement plus a monthly maintenance allowance of roughly Rs 220 to Rs 1,200 to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students from Class 11 to postgraduate level. Family income must be under Rs 2.5 lakh a year. Apply online at oasis.wb.gov.in.
What is the West Bengal SC/ST Post-Matric Scholarship?
West Bengal SC/ST Post-Matric Scholarship is a scheme of the Backward Classes Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal, delivered through the state's OASIS scholarship portal at oasis.wb.gov.in. The scholarship supports Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students of West Bengal studying at Class 11 and above, up to and including postgraduate courses.
OASIS. The Online Application System for Scholarship: is the single window the Backward Classes Welfare Department uses for its SC, ST and OBC scholarships. As displayed on the portal, OASIS hosts seven schemes in total, covering post-matric SC, ST and OBC scholarships, pre-matric SC, ST and OBC scholarships, and Pre-Matric Component-II for children of parents in hazardous occupations. This guide covers the post-matric SC and ST component.
The scholarship has two parts:
- Reimbursement of admissible non-refundable course fees, such as tuition and compulsory fees charged by a recognised institution.
- A monthly maintenance allowance, which as published for the scheme runs from roughly Rs 220 to Rs 1,200 per month depending on the course group and on whether the student is a hosteller or a day scholar.
Because the amount depends on the course group and residential status, no single figure applies to every student. A day scholar in a general graduate course sits at the lower end of the range; a hosteller in a professional or postgraduate course sits at the higher end.
Who is eligible for the OASIS post-matric scholarship?
You can be considered if:
- You are a domicile of West Bengal.
- You belong to a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe and hold a valid caste certificate from a competent authority.
- You are studying in Class 11, Class 12, an undergraduate course or a postgraduate course at a recognised institution.
- Your annual family income is below Rs 2,50,000.
- You hold a bank account in your own name for direct benefit transfer.
You are not eligible if:
- You are not SC or ST. OBC students apply under the separate OBC post-matric component on the same portal, and general-category students are outside the scheme.
- Your family income exceeds Rs 2,50,000 a year.
- You are studying below Class 11. Those students apply under the pre-matric scholarships instead.
- You are not domiciled in West Bengal.
- You are already drawing another scholarship for the same course in the same academic year. Double-benefit claims are detected during de-duplication and are rejected.
- Your institution is not registered on the OASIS portal, since the application requires online verification by the institution.
What documents are required for the OASIS scholarship?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| SC or ST caste certificate | Yes | From a competent authority; the number is verified against state records |
| Family income certificate | Yes | Must show income below Rs 2,50,000 a year |
| Last qualifying examination mark sheet | Yes | Madhyamik, Higher Secondary or degree mark sheet as applicable |
| Admission or fee receipt | Yes | Proof of admission to the current course |
| Bank passbook first page | Yes | Account must be in the student's own name |
| Aadhaar card | Yes | Identity verification and de-duplication |
| NSP OTR number | No | Required for ST applicants |

Scan documents cleanly at the size limits stated on the portal. A large share of OASIS rejections are simply illegible uploads, not ineligible students.
How to apply for the West Bengal SC/ST Post-Matric Scholarship
- Open oasis.wb.gov.in and select the post-matric scholarship for your category β SC or ST.
- Register on the portal with your name, date of birth, caste certificate number, mobile number and email. The portal issues an application ID and password; save both.
- ST applicants: generate the NSP One Time Registration (OTR) number as the portal's user manual directs, since ST applications route through the National Scholarship Portal OTR system.
- Complete the application form with personal details, caste and income details, your institution and course, and your bank account number and IFSC code.
- Upload the documents: caste certificate, income certificate, previous mark sheet, admission receipt, bank passbook page, Aadhaar, photograph and signature.
- Submit the application and take a printout or PDF of the submitted form for your own record.
- Follow up with your institution. Your college or school must verify the application online in the OASIS institution login. An unverified application never reaches the sanctioning stage, however correct it is.
- Track the status by signing in with your application ID and password, and watch for the disbursement entry in your bank passbook.
How is the scholarship money disbursed?
Payment is made by direct benefit transfer into the student's own bank account. The OASIS portal has stated that 40 percent of the total eligible amount is disbursed in the first phase, with the remaining amount released in a later phase of the same session. Students should therefore not treat the first credit as the full entitlement.
An account held in a parent's or guardian's name will not receive the credit. Where a student is a minor, the account should still be in the student's name, opened with a guardian where the bank requires it.
How do you check your OASIS application status?
Sign in at oasis.wb.gov.in with the application ID and password issued at registration. The status screen shows whether the application is pending at the institution, verified and forwarded, sanctioned, or rejected with a reason.
The most common status that confuses students is "pending at institution". That is not a portal fault and cannot be fixed by re-registering. It means the college's scholarship nodal officer has not yet opened the institution login and verified the record. Contact the institution, not the helpline.
Why OASIS scholarship applications get rejected
- Income certificate above Rs 2,50,000, or an income certificate from an authority not competent to issue it.
- Caste certificate details mismatched with the name or number on record.
- Institution has not verified the application within the session window.
- Bank account in someone else's name, or a wrong IFSC code.
- Illegible or oversized document uploads rejected at scrutiny.
- Duplicate application, or another scholarship drawn for the same course and year.
- Course or institution not covered, for example an unrecognised institution or a course outside the post-matric definition.
Where a rejection is documentary, the portal usually allows correction and resubmission inside the same session window. Once the window closes, the case carries to the next session, so acting quickly matters.
Key dates
The OASIS post-matric scholarship runs on an annual academic-session cycle. Applications for the 2026-27 session were open at the time of checking, with the portal reporting 11,313 institutions registered and 82,680 applications received for the session. The exact opening and closing dates change each year and are announced on the portal notice board, so the closing date on the portal is the only date to trust.
Students should apply early in the window rather than at the end, for one practical reason: the institution's verification also has to be completed inside the window, and a college with hundreds of pending verifications in the final week frequently fails to clear them all.
Where do you raise an OASIS scholarship grievance?
- Your institution's scholarship nodal officer, the first stop for anything stuck at verification.
- OASIS helpline: +91-84 20 02 3311 for portal, registration and upload problems.
- Email: bcwoasis@gmail.com for written grievances with the application ID quoted.
- District Backward Classes Welfare Officer for caste certificate and category disputes.
Applying on OASIS is free. No cyber cafe, agent or coaching centre can guarantee sanction or charge a fee to "get your scholarship passed", and no official will ask for your OASIS password or a bank OTP.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the West Bengal SC/ST Post-Matric Scholarship?
The maintenance allowance runs from about Rs 220 to Rs 1,200 per month depending on the course group and whether the student is a hosteller or a day scholar, and admissible non-refundable course fees are reimbursed on top. Professional and postgraduate courses attract the higher slabs.
What is the income limit for the OASIS post-matric scholarship?
Annual family income must be below Rs 2,50,000. The income certificate must come from the competent authority; a self-declaration is not accepted for the post-matric SC/ST scholarship.
Which classes are covered by the post-matric scholarship?
Class 11 upward is covered, which means Class 11, Class 12, undergraduate courses and postgraduate courses. Students below Class 11 apply under the separate pre-matric scholarships hosted on the same OASIS portal.
Who cannot apply for this scholarship?
Students who are not SC or ST, students whose family income exceeds Rs 2,50,000 a year, students who are not domiciled in West Bengal, and students below Class 11 are not eligible under this component. A student already drawing another scholarship for the same course and year also cannot apply.
How do I apply for the OASIS scholarship?
Register on oasis.wb.gov.in, generate your application ID, fill in personal, caste, income, course and bank details, upload the documents and submit; the institution then verifies the application online. ST applicants must also generate an NSP One Time Registration number.
How is the scholarship money paid out?
Payment is by direct benefit transfer into the student's own bank account, and the portal has stated that 40 percent of the total eligible amount is disbursed in the first phase with the balance released later. An account in a parent's name will not receive the credit.
What is the OASIS scholarship helpline?
The OASIS portal publishes the helpline and grievance number +91-84 20 02 3311 and the email bcwoasis@gmail.com. Use these for technical problems with registration, upload or status; academic verification issues go to your institution first.
Can I apply if my institution is not listed on OASIS?
No, not directly. The institution must be registered on the OASIS portal because the application requires online institutional verification. If your college does not appear in the dropdown, ask its scholarship nodal officer to complete institutional registration.
