Promotion of Science Education (POSE) Scholarship Scheme, Haryana
Haryana state government scheme
POSE Scholarship in Haryana pays Rs 4,000 a month for the first three years and Rs 6,000 a month for the fourth and fifth years of a basic science degree, plus a one-time mentorship grant of Rs 12,000 to Rs 22,000. Haryana State Council for Science, Innovation and Technology awards 250 scholarships a year through an online portal.
What is the POSE Scholarship in Haryana?
Promotion of Science Education (POSE) Scholarship Scheme is a merit scholarship awarded by the Haryana State Council for Science, Innovation and Technology (HSCSIT), which functions as the Directorate of Science and Technology, Government of Haryana, from Bays 35-38, Sector 2, Panchkula. According to the scheme guidelines, POSE exists to encourage meritorious students towards science education and to support them in continuing that science education up to a higher level.
POSE is narrower and deeper than most state scholarships. It does not spread a small amount across thousands of students. It picks 250 students a year and pays them a monthly stipend for the whole length of a basic science degree, plus a one-time grant to fund an actual research project under a mentor.
The scheme targets the exact point where science students in India leak away from research: the moment after class 12, when a student with good marks is choosing between an engineering or medical seat and a plain B.Sc. POSE makes the B.Sc. route financially viable.
The 22 identified subjects are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Statistics, Geology, Astrophysics, Astronomy, Electronics, Botany, Zoology, Bio-Chemistry, Anthropology, Microbiology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Atmospheric Sciences, Oceanic Sciences, Ecology, Marine Biology, Genetics and Biophysics. Qualifying degrees are B.Sc., B.S., B.Stat., B.Math and integrated M.Sc./M.S. taken in India.
Who is eligible for the POSE scholarship?
You can apply if:
- You took admission in the first year of a B.Sc., B.S., B.Stat., B.Math or integrated M.Sc./M.S. course in one of the 22 identified basic and natural science subjects, in India, in the current admission year.
- You passed class X and class XII board examinations from a school situated in Haryana, with minimum 80% marks in class 12 for a Haryana Board school or 85% for other boards such as CBSE or ICSE.
- If you passed class X or XII from a school outside Haryana, you can produce a Haryana Residence Certificate.
- You are a regular student.
The marks criterion is waived for students admitted to a reputed national institute: IIT, ISI, IISER, NISER, DAE-CBS or IISc; in a basic and natural science course. Those students also get first priority in selection.
You cannot apply, or are not eligible, if:
- You are studying privately, through correspondence or distance mode, or in an unrecognised institution. Only regular students qualify.
- Your subject falls outside the 22 identified subjects, however scientific it may be. Engineering, medicine, pharmacy and computer applications are not covered.
- You are not in the first year. POSE is entry-level; a second-year student cannot join mid-course.
- Your class 12 marks are below 80% (Haryana Board) or 85% (other boards) and you are not at one of the six named national institutes.
- You are already availing another scholarship. Selected students are not entitled to any other scholarship.
- You have been involved in indiscipline or unfair means.
- You submitted more than one application, or an incomplete one. No claims are entertained for incomplete or unsubmitted applications.
How much does the POSE scholarship pay?
| Stage of study | Scholarship |
|---|---|
| 1st to 3rd year of B.Sc., B.S., B.Stat., B.Math, integrated M.Sc./M.S. | Rs 4,000 per month |
| 4th and 5th year of integrated B.S., B.Stat., B.Math, M.Sc., M.S., M.Math, M.Stat. | Rs 6,000 per month |
One-time research mentorship grant
| Programme | Mentorship grant |
|---|---|
| 3-year B.Sc. | Rs 12,000 |
| 4-year B.S. | Rs 17,000 |
| 5-year integrated M.Sc. | Rs 22,000 |
How the money is paid. The scholarship is paid for all twelve months in a year, starting from the month of admission, generally July of the admission year to June of the next. It is released in two half-yearly instalments, semester-wise, the first on selection, the second on the basis of first semester performance, the third on second semester performance, and so on. Payment goes directly to the student's bank account by NEFT or RTGS, so the account must be with a bank having electronic transfer or ECS facility and should be linked to Aadhaar.
How to apply for the POSE scholarship
- Watch for the annual advertisement on dst.highereduhry.ac.in under the Students tab. For 2025-26 the portal was open from 19 November 2025 to 18 January 2026.
- Register on the scholarship portal at harchhatravratti.highereduhry.ac.in under the "Student" tab. Registration comes before the application form.
- Fill the online application form with your class 12 board and marks, your course, your institution, your major subject from the list of 22, and your bank details, bank name, branch address, IFSC code and account number.
- Upload self-attested photocopies of all certificates from class X onwards, along with the Haryana Residence Certificate if you studied outside the state and the rural area school certificate if you are claiming the 2% weightage.
- Submit only one application and check every column before submitting. Only applications received through the online mode are entertained; anything sent by post or email is not considered.
- Wait for the provisional offer. All offers made initially are provisional and are confirmed only after verification of original documents by HSCSIT or by your institution.
- Submit the confirmation documents, the enrolment certificate at Annexure I and the declaration of not availing any other scholarship at Annexure II, both countersigned by the Head, Principal, Registrar or Director of your institution.
How is the POSE merit list prepared?
Selection follows a strict priority order set out in the guidelines:
- First priority goes to students admitted to a reputed national institute — IIT, ISI, IISER, NISER, DAE-CBS or IISc: in a basic and natural science course.
- Second priority goes to students admitted to a 4-year B.S. or a 5-year integrated M.Sc. programme in any university or institute of the state.
- Remaining scholarships go to other students on merit, using the average percentage score in the class 12 board examination in English or Hindi (whichever is better) plus the best three out of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology, the total of four subjects divided by the maximum marks in four subjects.
Rural weightage. Students who studied classes 11 and 12 in a school within a Gram Panchayat's jurisdiction get an additional 2% added to their average percentage score. A student with 90% is treated as 92%. Rural "elite" schools, defined as those where tuition and other charges exceed Rs 1 lakh a year, are excluded from this weightage. To claim it, submit the rural area school certificate signed by the Principal, the Sarpanch or Gram Sachiv of the village panchayat, and the concerned BDPO.
Tie-breakers, in order: girl students are preferred; then the better of the English or Hindi score in class 12; then the younger student.
How do I keep the POSE scholarship going?
- Maintain at least 60% marks in each semester. Where the university awards SGPA or SPI, conversion follows the university's approved formula; if none exists, the percentage is derived by scaling down the SGPA by 10%, so an SGPA of 6 on a 10-point scale is read as 54%.
- Submit self-attested semester mark sheets through your institution within about a month of the result. Provisional or internet copies are not accepted.
- Attach the undertaking with each semester's mark sheet saying you are not availing any other scholarship, attested by the college.
- A compartment or re-appear in any semester stops further instalments, and clearing it in a supplementary examination does not restore the scholarship.
- Changing college within the same academic year is acceptable provided you continue in one of the 22 identified subjects. A change or re-admission in the next academic year, or a switch to a subject outside the 22, makes the offer invalid with no scope for restoration.
How do I claim the mentorship grant?
The mentorship grant is a reimbursement, not an advance. Scholars do project work under a Professor or Research Supervisor at their parent institution or at any recognised university, institute, research laboratory or centre of their choice, preferably outside the parent institution, in India or abroad. For a project in India, travel, accommodation, equipment and consumable expenses are reimbursed within the grant ceiling. If the sponsoring institute pays a stipend or travel grant, only the difference between all support received and actual expenditure is reimbursed.
After the project, submit to HSCSIT:
- A letter from the Professor, Research Supervisor or Head of Institution giving the project's start and completion dates.
- A report setting out the objectives and results of the research work.
- Brief details of expenditure: travel, accommodation, equipment, consumables, countersigned by the Head, Principal, Registrar or teacher of the institute where the work was done.
- Details of funds received from any other department or institute for the same project.
Why do POSE applications fail?
- Class 12 marks below the 80% or 85% bar, where the student is not at one of the six named national institutes.
- Subject outside the 22 identified subjects, the most common misunderstanding among applicants from engineering and pharmacy backgrounds.
- Not a first-year student in the current admission year.
- Application submitted offline or by email, which is never entertained.
- Multiple applications from the same student.
- Rural weightage claimed without the three-signature certificate from the Principal, Sarpanch or Gram Sachiv, and BDPO.
- Missing Haryana Residence Certificate where class X or XII was passed outside the state.
- Bank account without electronic transfer facility, or not Aadhaar-linked, so NEFT or RTGS payment fails.
- False statement, in which case the scholarship is cancelled forthwith and the amount already paid is recovered.
Where do I write about a POSE scholarship problem?
All correspondence should be addressed to The Secretary, Executive Committee, Haryana State Council for Science, Innovation and Technology, Bays No. 35-38, Sector 2, Panchkula.
- Phone: 0172-2560309 and 0172-2560339

- Application portal: harchhatravratti.highereduhry.ac.in
HSCSIT reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of scholarships or to change the scheme, and in case of any dispute the decision of the Secretary, Executive Committee, HSCSIT is final. Applying for POSE is free at every stage.
How to check your application status
POSE does not have a separate public "track application" page outside the portal itself, so status checking runs through three channels depending on where you are in the cycle.
During the application window. Log back in to harchhatravratti.highereduhry.ac.in with the credentials you created at registration. Your dashboard shows whether the form you filled was actually submitted, since a form that was only saved and never submitted counts as no application at all and earns no consideration later.
After the window closes, while the merit list is being prepared. There is no live tracker for this stage. HSCSIT compiles the priority list (national-institute admits, then 4-year/5-year programme admits, then the marks-based merit order with rural weightage and tie-breakers applied) internally, and the outcome is a provisional offer, not a running status update. If the admission or announcement season has passed with no communication, check the Students tab on dst.highereduhry.ac.in for the current cycle's result notice before assuming anything is wrong.
After a provisional offer. Log in to the same student portal to see whether your offer shows as provisional or confirmed. Confirmation depends on HSCSIT or your own institution verifying your original certificates, so a status stuck at "provisional" for a while usually means document verification with your college is still pending on your end, not a problem with the application itself. Follow up with your institution's nodal officer first, since they hold the verification step, before escalating to HSCSIT.
Once instalments have started. There is no month-to-month payment tracker. Because payments are released half-yearly and tied to submission of your self-attested semester mark sheet and the no-other-scholarship undertaking through your institution, the most reliable way to check on a pending instalment is to confirm with your college that your mark sheet and undertaking were actually forwarded to HSCSIT, since a payment held up at this stage is usually a paperwork gap rather than a rejection.
Direct follow-up. For anything the portal and your institution cannot answer, contact HSCSIT directly:
- Phone: 0172-2560309 or 0172-2560339
- Email: pose.scholarship@gmail.com
- Postal correspondence: The Secretary, Executive Committee, Haryana State Council for Science, Innovation and Technology, Bays No. 35-38, Sector 2, Panchkula
Keep your application reference details and admission year on hand when you call, since the helpline works off the same portal records rather than a separate status database.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the POSE scholarship pay?
POSE pays Rs 4,000 a month in the 1st to 3rd year of B.Sc., B.S., B.Stat., B.Math or integrated M.Sc./M.S., and Rs 6,000 a month in the 4th and 5th years of the integrated programmes. Selected students also get a one-time mentorship grant of Rs 12,000 in a 3-year B.Sc., Rs 17,000 in a 4-year B.S. and Rs 22,000 in a 5-year integrated M.Sc.
What marks do I need for the POSE scholarship?
A minimum of 80% marks in class 12 for a Haryana Board school and 85% for other boards such as CBSE or ICSE, with class X and XII both passed from a school situated in Haryana. This marks criterion does not apply to students admitted to IIT, ISI, IISER, NISER, DAE-CBS or IISc in a basic and natural science course.
How many POSE scholarships are given each year?
250 scholarships are offered, up to post-graduate level. In case of a tie, girl students are preferred first, then the better of the English or Hindi language score in class 12, and then the younger student.
Which courses and subjects qualify for POSE?
B.Sc., B.S., B.Stat., B.Math and integrated M.Sc./M.S. in 22 identified basic and natural science subjects — Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Statistics, Geology, Astrophysics, Astronomy, Electronics, Botany, Zoology, Bio-Chemistry, Anthropology, Microbiology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Atmospheric Sciences, Oceanic Sciences, Ecology, Marine Biology, Genetics and Biophysics.
What marks must I maintain to keep the POSE scholarship?
At least 60% marks in each semester. A re-appear or a compartment in any semester stops future instalments, and clearing the re-appear in a supplementary examination does not restore the scholarship.
Do rural students get any advantage in POSE selection?
Yes. Students who studied classes 11 and 12 in a school within a Gram Panchayat's jurisdiction get an additional 2% weightage on their average percentage score. Rural "elite" schools charging more than Rs 1 lakh a year in fees are excluded from this weightage.
Can I hold another scholarship along with POSE?
No. Students selected under POSE are not entitled to any other scholarship, and an undertaking to that effect, countersigned by the institution, must be submitted with each semester's mark sheet.
When is the POSE scholarship window open?
For the 2025-26 cycle the portal was open from 19 November 2025 to 18 January 2026. The Haryana State Council for Science, Innovation and Technology notifies a fresh window each year on dst.highereduhry.ac.in, so there is no permanent fixed date.
