What is Kisan Samriddhi Yojana?

Kisan Samriddhi Yojana is a Jharkhand government scheme run by the Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperative Department that replaces diesel and other fossil-fuel irrigation with solar-powered pump sets, supplied to farmers at up to 90 per cent government subsidy. The scheme is delivered through its own dedicated portal at ksy.jharkhand.gov.in.

According to the scheme portal, the purpose is to cut the cost of agricultural production by removing the recurring diesel bill from irrigation. A farmer who runs a diesel pump pays for fuel every time the field is watered; a farmer with a solar unit pays once, for a 10 per cent share of the equipment cost, and then irrigates at effectively zero running cost for the life of the panel.

Kisan Samriddhi Yojana is often written as Kisan Samridhi Yojna or abbreviated KSY in district notices. Readers should note one common confusion: despite the name, KSY is not a cash income-support scheme like PM-KISAN. No money is transferred to the farmer's bank account. The benefit is the subsidised solar pump set itself.

Main features

  • Government subsidy of up to 90 per cent on the solar irrigation unit.
  • Beneficiary contribution of 10 per cent of the unit cost.
  • Two surface pump options, 5 HP fixed and 2 HP portable.
  • Delivered through Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC at Pragya Kendras, at a charge of Rs 40 per farmer.
  • Open to individual farmers as well as self-help groups, cooperatives and farmer producer organisations registered in Jharkhand.

What equipment does Kisan Samriddhi Yojana provide?

Kisan Samriddhi Yojana offers two surface solar irrigation units, and the choice depends entirely on the size of the holding and the nature of the water source.

5 HP surface solar unit. A fixed installation designed for a permanent water source such as a river, pond or check dam. The portal states this unit irrigates approximately 5 acres. Because it is fixed, it suits a farmer or group with a reliable year-round source at a single point.

2 HP surface solar unit, a mobile system mounted on a trolley, covering approximately 1 acre. Being portable, it can be moved between scattered plots, which matches the fragmented holdings common across Jharkhand's plateau districts.

The scheme portal's district dashboard records 23,823 registered beneficiaries across the state, split as 12,117 for 2 HP DC units, 9,785 for 2 HP AC units, 1,152 for 5 HP DC units and 769 for 5 HP AC units. Palamu, Ranchi, Hazaribagh and Garhwa show the highest registration counts, each above 1,800. The heavy tilt towards 2 HP portable units reflects the dominance of small holdings in the state.

Who is eligible for Kisan Samriddhi Yojana?

You can be considered if:

  • You are 18 years of age or above.
  • You hold a valid Aadhaar number linked to both a working mobile number and your ration card.
  • You can show proof of a water source — a well, borewell, pond, river or check dam: at or near the plot to be irrigated.
  • You can show land ownership proof for that plot.
  • You are an individual farmer, or a self-help group, cooperative or farmer producer organisation with a registered office in Jharkhand.

You are not eligible if:

  • You are below 18 years of age.
  • Your Aadhaar is not linked to a mobile number and ration card, because the biometric e-KYC step cannot be completed without that linkage.
  • You cannot demonstrate a water source. A solar pump with no water to lift is of no use, and this is a firm requirement rather than a formality.
  • You cannot produce land papers for the plot.
  • Another member of your family has already been sanctioned a unit. The scheme allows one beneficiary per family.
  • You have already received a unit as an individual. The individual benefit is once only.
  • Your group has received a unit within the last five years, since groups are barred from repeat benefit for that period.

How to apply for Kisan Samriddhi Yojana

  1. Confirm that your Aadhaar is linked to your mobile number and ration card before you start. Applications stall at e-KYC more often than at any other step.
  2. Open the official portal at ksy.jharkhand.gov.in and select the application or registration option for the current round.
  3. Enter your Aadhaar number, mobile number and district, and verify with the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
  4. Fill in the application: personal details, land details for the plot, the water source available, and whether you want the 5 HP fixed or 2 HP portable unit.
  5. Upload or produce the land proof, water source proof, ration card and bank passbook.
  6. Visit a Pragya Kendra (Common Service Centre) to complete biometric e-KYC. A charge of Rs 40 is payable for this step, and nothing more should be paid to the operator.
  7. Save the application or registration number shown on completion, and track the status on the portal.
  8. When the application is sanctioned, deposit the 10 per cent beneficiary share as instructed by the department, after which the vendor schedules installation.

Groups follow the same route, with the additional step of uploading the registration certificate of the self-help group, cooperative or FPO and nominating an authorised signatory.

How much does the farmer pay under Kisan Samriddhi Yojana?

Kisan Samriddhi Yojana subsidises up to 90 per cent of the cost of the solar irrigation unit, leaving a 10 per cent beneficiary contribution. On top of that, the portal states a charge of Rs 40 per farmer for the e-KYC performed at Pragya Kendras.

The exact rupee value of the 10 per cent share therefore depends on the tendered unit cost of the pump set for the round in question, which the department fixes with the supplying vendors. Farmers should ask the district agriculture office for the current unit cost and beneficiary share in writing before depositing any money, and should never hand cash to an agent claiming to arrange a sanction.

How do I check my Kisan Samriddhi Yojana application status?

  1. Open ksy.jharkhand.gov.in and go to the application or beneficiary status section.
  2. Enter your application or registration number, or your Aadhaar number, as the portal requires.
  3. Read the stage shown: registered, verified, sanctioned, contribution deposited, or installed.

The portal also publishes a district-wise dashboard of registered beneficiaries by pump type, which is useful for judging demand and the likely wait in your district.

If the status has not moved for a long period, contact the toll-free helpline 1800-123-1136, open 10 AM to 5 PM from Monday to Saturday, or the district agriculture office.

Why do Kisan Samriddhi Yojana applications get rejected?

  • Aadhaar not linked to the mobile number, so OTP verification and e-KYC fail.
  • Aadhaar not linked to the ration card, which the scheme uses to identify the family and enforce the one-unit-per-family rule.
  • No verifiable water source at the plot. This is the single most common substantive rejection.
  • Land papers not in the applicant's name, or covering a different plot from the one declared.
  • A second application from the same family, which is disallowed.
  • A repeat application by a group within five years of an earlier sanction.
  • Beneficiary share not deposited within the time allowed after sanction, which lapses the sanction.

Most of these can be fixed and the application refiled in a later round. Aadhaar linkage problems are corrected at an Aadhaar enrolment centre or with the ration dealer's office, not on the KSY portal.

Where do I get help with Kisan Samriddhi Yojana?

  • Toll-free helpline: 1800-123-1136, 10 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Saturday.
  • Scheme portal: ksy.jharkhand.gov.in, which carries the application form, the status check and the district dashboard.
  • District Agriculture Officer, for questions about the beneficiary share, vendor allocation and installation delays.
  • Pragya Kendra (CSC) operators, for the biometric e-KYC step only, at the published charge of Rs 40.

No official will ask for your OTP, and no agent can guarantee a sanction for a fee. Applications and their processing are free apart from the Rs 40 e-KYC charge and the 10 per cent beneficiary contribution paid through the official route.
