Income Certificate in Karnataka (Nadakacheri)
Karnataka state government scheme
Income Certificate in Karnataka is issued by the Revenue Department through the Nadakacheri portal at nadakacheri.karnataka.gov.in, also called Atalji Janasnehi Kendra. The Tumkur district administration lists a fee of Rs 15 for an online application and 21 days for an offline application at the Tehsildar office. The Deputy Tahsildar signs the certificate.
What is an Income Certificate in Karnataka?
An Income Certificate in Karnataka is a revenue document that certifies the annual income of a family and is issued by the Revenue Department, Government of Karnataka, through its citizen-service platform Nadakacheri, formally named Atalji Janasnehi Kendra. The certificate is signed by the Deputy Tahsildar of the taluk after the local Village Accountant or Revenue Inspector has verified the family's income on the ground.
Nadakacheri describes itself as a single-window access point to information and services of the Revenue Department. Alongside the income certificate it handles caste certificates, family certificates, RTC (Record of Rights, Tenancy and Crops), mutation records, crop certificates and birth and death records through e-Janma. The platform won the National Award for e-Governance 2019-20, and its own dashboard reported over 22.8 lakh applications raised and 21.8 lakh disposed in the month of July 2026. An indication of how routine this document is in Karnataka.
Karnataka readers usually need the income certificate for scholarships and fee-reimbursement schemes, college and professional-course admissions, hostel admissions, reserved-category and EWS claims, and eligibility checks under state welfare schemes.
Who can and cannot apply for an income certificate in Karnataka?
You can apply if:
- You are a resident of Karnataka and your family lives within the taluk of the Tahsildar you apply to. Residence within the taluk is the jurisdictional test.
- You hold an Aadhaar card. The Nadakacheri public login runs on a mobile number and OTP, and Aadhaar is the identity anchor on the application.
- You can produce a Karnataka address proof such as a ration card, bank passbook or passport.
- You can produce income proof, a salary slip, bank statement or equivalent document for each earning member of the family.
You cannot apply if:
- You are not a resident of Karnataka. The Tahsildar's jurisdiction ends at the taluk boundary, so a person living in another state is not eligible and must apply through their own state's revenue department.
- You cannot furnish any address proof tying the family to the taluk.
- You have no document of income at all for the earning members, since the Village Accountant's verification is built on that record.
There is no community restriction on who may be issued an income certificate. A caste certificate is asked for only when the applicant belongs to a minority community, per the Tumkur district service page, and it supports the file rather than gating it. Equally, there is no income ceiling that decides whether the certificate is issued, the Deputy Tahsildar certifies the income that verification establishes. Whether that figure qualifies you for a specific scholarship is decided by that scheme's own rules.

What is the fee for an income certificate in Karnataka?
The Tumkur district administration publishes a fee of Rs 15 for an online application through Nadakacheri, and states that the offline route through the Tehsildar office is completed in 21 days from submission. This is a government-notified counter fee, not a service charge negotiated with an operator. Pay only the amount the portal displays at the payment step, or the amount printed on the receipt at a Nadakacheri counter, and insist on the receipt.
How to apply for an income certificate in Karnataka online
- Open nadakacheri.karnataka.gov.in and go to the online application / public login page.
- Log in with your mobile number and the OTP sent to it. This is the citizen login, and no separate password is created.
- From the "New Request" menu, select "Income Certificate".
- Fill in the application. The applicant's name, father's or husband's name, full address with district, taluk, hobli and village, the ration card and Aadhaar details, the purpose for which the certificate is needed, and the annual income of the family with each earning member listed separately.
- Upload the scanned documents: income proof, Aadhaar, identity proof, address proof, age proof and the photograph, in the formats and size limits the portal specifies.
- Pay the fee online through the payment gateway and save the acknowledgement / RD number on the receipt. The Tumkur district administration lists this fee as Rs 15 for the online route.
- Wait for field verification. The Village Accountant or Revenue Inspector verifies the declared income locally — Karnataka introduced the Samyojane mobile app in May 2019 as the field verification tool for this step, after which the case worker processes the file and the Deputy Tahsildar signs it.
- Download and print the certificate from the same portal once it is approved, or collect it instantly under e-Kshana where that is offered at the counter.
How to apply offline at a Nadakacheri or the Tehsildar office
- Visit the Nadakacheri / Atalji Janasnehi Kendra of your hobli, or the Tehsildar office of your taluk.
- Fill the income certificate application form at the counter with the same details: family members, address, purpose and annual income.
- Attach the income proof, Aadhaar, identity proof, address proof, age proof and photographs, and hand the file over with the fee.
- Collect the dated acknowledgement with the application number. The Tumkur district administration states the offline route takes 21 days from submission.
How do I check my application status?
Nadakacheri carries an application status option on nadakacheri.karnataka.gov.in. Enter the acknowledgement or RD number from your receipt to see whether the file is pending with the Village Accountant, the Revenue Inspector, the case worker or the Deputy Tahsildar. The portal also carries a citizen verification facility so a college or department can check online that the certificate you produced is genuine.
Once issued, the certificate can be pulled into DigiLocker, since Nadakacheri is integrated with DigiLocker through a pull-service facility. That is the simplest way to keep a copy that institutions will accept without a fresh attestation.
How long is a Karnataka income certificate valid?
Institutions in Karnataka normally want an income certificate issued in the current financial year, because family income is re-assessed annually. Read the notification you are applying under. A scholarship portal or an admission notice will usually name the financial year it wants the certificate for, and apply afresh through Nadakacheri if your existing certificate is from an earlier year. Renewal is the same application, at the same fee.
Why do income certificate applications get rejected in Karnataka?
- Field verification failed. The Village Accountant could not confirm the declared income, or found the household income materially higher than stated.
- Address outside the taluk of the Tahsildar the file was submitted to.
- Income proof missing for one or more earning members of the family.
- Ration card or Aadhaar details mismatched with the names entered on the application.
- Illegible uploads, a blurred scan of a salary slip or ration card is a routine cause of the file being sent back.
- Duplicate application already pending for the same applicant and purpose.
Help, grievances and a warning about middlemen
- Portal: nadakacheri.karnataka.gov.in: application, status, verification and download all sit on this one site.
- Counter: the Nadakacheri / Atalji Janasnehi Kendra of your hobli, which is the Revenue Department's own citizen-service centre.
- Escalation: the Tahsildar of the taluk, and above that the Assistant Commissioner of the sub-division and the Deputy Commissioner of the district.
The Karnataka income certificate carries only the government's notified fee; Rs 15 online as listed by the Tumkur district administration. Nothing beyond the fee printed on your receipt is payable. Private "certificate agents" and lookalike websites charging several hundred rupees add nothing to the process: the same application, the same Village Accountant verification and the same Deputy Tahsildar signature apply either way. Never share the OTP sent to your mobile with anyone, because that OTP is the login to your own Nadakacheri account.
