Karnataka Minority Post-Matric Fee Reimbursement Scholarship
Karnataka state government scheme
Karnataka Minority Post-Matric Fee Reimbursement Scholarship is a Directorate of Minorities scheme that reimburses course fees for minority students in PUC, ITI, undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and technical courses. For 2026-27 the last date is 30 September 2026, and the free application is made online on the State Scholarship Portal.
What is the Karnataka Minority Post-Matric Fee Reimbursement Scholarship?
Karnataka Minority Post-Matric Fee Reimbursement Scholarship is a state scheme of the Directorate of Minorities, which works under the Minority Welfare Department of the Government of Karnataka. The scheme reimburses course fees for students from notified religious minority communities who are studying beyond Class 10.
According to the Directorate of Minorities, for the academic year 2026-27 online applications are invited through the State Scholarship Portal under the fee reimbursement scheme from eligible minority students in Karnataka pursuing PUC, ITI, undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and technical courses, including students admitted to professional and technical courses through the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). The last date is 30 September 2026.
Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh and Parsi communities are Karnataka's notified religious minorities. They numbered about 96,00,475 people at the 2011 Census, roughly 15.92% of the state's population.
The name to watch for is fee reimbursement. The Directorate does not publish a flat annual cash figure for this scheme in the way the Backward Classes Welfare Department publishes Rs 5,000 to Rs 20,000 slabs. What the minority scheme reimburses is the prescribed fee for the course, released to the student by Direct Benefit Transfer once the college and the department have verified the claim. Anyone quoting a fixed rupee figure for this scheme should be treated with caution unless it appears in the current year's departmental circular.
Who is eligible for the Karnataka minority post-matric scholarship?
You can apply if:
- You belong to a notified religious minority community in Karnataka.
- You are a permanent resident of Karnataka.
- You are studying a post-matric course, that is PUC, ITI, an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, or a professional or technical course.
- Your course and college are recognised, and, for professional and technical courses, your seat came through KEA counselling.
- You have an income certificate in your own name from Nadakacheri, within the ceiling that the Directorate notifies for the year.
You are not eligible, and cannot apply, if:
- You are already a beneficiary of a post-matric scholarship or fee concession from another Karnataka welfare department, that is Backward Classes Welfare, Social Welfare or Scheduled Castes Welfare. A student may draw from only one department.
- You are not from a notified minority community.
- You are not a permanent resident of Karnataka.
- Your family income is above the ceiling notified for the year.
- You are repeating a course you have already completed, or your course is not covered by the scheme.
Two points cause avoidable rejections. First, the income certificate must be in the student's name, not a parent's, because the State Scholarship Portal validates the RD number against the Nadakacheri record for the applicant. Second, a professional-course student who does not enter KEA counselling details will have the application returned.

How to apply for the Karnataka minority scholarship online
- Get an income certificate in your own name from Nadakacheri or an Atalji Janasnehi centre, and keep a minority certificate ready. Note the RD number printed on the income certificate.
- Open the State Scholarship Portal at ssp.postmatric.karnataka.gov.in. Create a student account if you do not already have one. Students who applied in a previous year should log in with the existing account instead of registering afresh.
- Select the Minority Welfare Department and the post-matric fee reimbursement scheme for 2026-27.
- Fill in your Aadhaar number, SSLC registration number, income certificate RD number, district, taluk, assembly constituency, address and college enrolment number. Professional and technical course students must enter their KEA counselling details.
- Enter your bank account details. The account must be in your own name and Aadhaar-seeded, because the reimbursement is released by DBT.
- Submit the application on or before 30 September 2026 and save the acknowledgement number.
- Ask your college to verify the application on SSP. Nothing moves to the Directorate for sanction until the institution completes its verification step.
How to get offline help with the application
- Visit a Minority Information Centre. The Directorate publishes a list of these centres on dom.karnataka.gov.in and they exist specifically to help minority applicants with departmental schemes.
- Go to the taluk Minority Extension Officer or the district office of the Directorate of Minorities, whose contacts are listed on the same site.
- Call the Directorate of Minorities helpline on 8277799990, or the State Scholarship Portal helpline on 1902.
The application itself has to be submitted online, so these routes assist you rather than replace the portal.
How to check your application and payment status
Log in to ssp.postmatric.karnataka.gov.in with the same credentials and open the application status page. The stages you will see are saved but not submitted, pending with the college, pending with the department, sanctioned, or rejected with a reason.
If your status reads sanctioned but nothing has been credited, the cause is almost always at the bank end, an account that is not Aadhaar-seeded, a name mismatch between Aadhaar and the bank record, or a dormant account. Fix the account first, then raise it on 1902.
What else the Directorate of Minorities offers
- Pre-matric scholarship for classes 1 to 8, applied for on the separate ssppre module of the State Scholarship Portal. For 2026-27 the last date announced is 30 September 2026.
- Pre-matric and post-matric hostels for minority students, applied for on the State Hostel Portal at shp.karnataka.gov.in with its own last dates, which in 2026-27 were 15 July 2026 for PUC-equivalent courses and 30 July 2026 for general degree courses.
- Vidyasiri food and accommodation support, linked through the State Hostel Portal for students who miss a hostel seat.
- Incentives (Uttejana) for minority students admitted to IITs, IIMs, NITs, IISc and AIIMS, and separate incentives for B.Ed and D.Ed students and for B.Sc Nursing and GNM students. These are applied for through Seva Sindhu at sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in rather than through the scholarship portal.
- National Overseas Scholarship for minority students going abroad.
- Merit-cum-Means scholarship, also routed through the state portal.
Deadlines for these incentives run on their own calendar. The B.Ed incentive for 2025-26, for example, was extended to 15 January 2026, well after the main scholarship window had closed.
Why minority scholarship applications get rejected
- Income certificate in a parent's name, so the RD number will not validate.
- Duplicate benefit, where the student also holds a post-matric scholarship or fee concession from another welfare department.
- KEA counselling details missing for a professional or technical course.
- College did not verify the application before the departmental cut-off.
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded or not in the student's name, which blocks the DBT release after sanction.
- Application submitted after 30 September 2026 for 2026-27.
- Minority certificate not produced or issued for a community outside the notified list.
Key dates to remember
- 30 September 2026; last date for 2026-27 post-matric fee reimbursement.
- 30 September 2026 β last date for the 2026-27 pre-matric scholarship for classes 1 to 8.
- 15 July and 30 July 2026: post-matric hostel application closing dates announced for PUC-equivalent and general degree courses respectively in 2026-27.
Karnataka has repeatedly extended minority scholarship deadlines in earlier years, for instance the 2025-26 fee reimbursement window moved to 30 November 2025 and then to 28 February 2026 for post-matric, and to 31 January 2026 for several incentive schemes. Treat those as reprieves rather than as the plan.

Frequently asked questions
What is the last date for the Karnataka minority post-matric scholarship in 2026-27?
30 September 2026 is the last date announced by the Directorate of Minorities for 2026-27 fee reimbursement applications on the State Scholarship Portal, for students in PUC, ITI, undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and technical courses.
Where do I apply for the Karnataka minority post-matric scholarship?
Apply online on the State Scholarship Portal at ssp.postmatric.karnataka.gov.in. The Directorate of Minorities does not accept paper applications for this scheme, and pre-matric applications for classes 1 to 8 go through the separate ssppre module on the same portal.
Which communities count as minorities in Karnataka?
Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Sikh and Parsi communities are the notified religious minorities in Karnataka, together about 15.92% of the state's population at the 2011 Census.
Who cannot apply for the Karnataka minority post-matric scholarship?
Students who already draw a post-matric benefit from the Backward Classes Welfare, Social Welfare or Scheduled Castes Welfare departments are not eligible, since a student may be a beneficiary under only one department. Students outside the notified minority communities and students who are not permanent residents of Karnataka also cannot apply.
Is the minority scholarship a cash payment or a fee reimbursement?
The Directorate of Minorities runs it as a fee reimbursement scheme, so the benefit is the prescribed course fee rather than a flat monthly stipend, and the sanctioned amount is released by Direct Benefit Transfer.
Can minority students also get a hostel seat?
Yes. Pre-matric and post-matric hostels for minority students are applied for separately on the State Hostel Portal at shp.karnataka.gov.in, and the Directorate of Minorities issues its own hostel admission circular each year with its own last dates.
What other incentives does the Directorate of Minorities give?
The Directorate runs incentive schemes for minority students admitted to IITs, IIMs, NITs, IISc and AIIMS, B.Ed and D.Ed incentives, and B.Sc Nursing and GNM nursing incentives, most of which are applied for through Seva Sindhu rather than the scholarship portal.
Is there any fee to apply for the minority scholarship?
No. Applying on the State Scholarship Portal is free. No cyber centre or agent has authority to charge for getting a Karnataka minority scholarship sanctioned.
