Madhya Pradesh state government scheme
State Government SC Scholarship pays Scheduled Caste school students in Madhya Pradesh a yearly pre-matric amount that rises with class, from Rs 250 for girls in Classes 1 to 5 up to Rs 1,200 for girls in Classes 9 and 10. There is no income limit, and the school files the claim on the MP Shiksha Portal.
What is the State Government SC Scholarship for Classes 1 to 10?
State Government SC Scholarship (Class 1 to 10) is Madhya Pradesh's own pre-matric scholarship for Scheduled Caste school students, funded by the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department (Anusuchit Jati Kalyan Vibhag) and delivered through the School Education Department's Shiksha Portal. The scheme pays a small annual amount that rises with the class the child is in, and is paid by Direct Benefit Transfer.
According to Madhya Pradesh's consolidated school-scholarship listing, the rates under this head are:
| Class | Boys, per year | Girls, per year |
|---|---|---|
| Classes 1 to 5 | Not payable under this head | Rs 250 |
| Classes 6 to 8 | Rs 200 | Rs 600 |
| Classes 9 and 10 | Rs 600 | Rs 1,200 |
Two features distinguish this scheme from most Indian scholarships. First, there is no family income ceiling, and the listing expressly records that no income proof is required. A valid caste certificate from the Sub-Divisional Officer is enough. Second, the listing records that a student who fails a year remains eligible, which matters in exactly the households the scheme is meant to reach.
The amounts are modest by design. This is a pre-matric retention incentive rather than a maintenance grant: it sits alongside free textbooks, free uniforms, the mid-day meal, and the department's hostel and ashram network, and it exists mainly to keep a Scheduled Caste child on the school rolls year after year. The larger money for SC students begins after Class 10, in the post-matric scholarship, which covers tuition, examination and maintenance heads.
The girls' rate is roughly double the boys' rate at each stage, and the gap widens with class, from Rs 600 against Rs 200 in the middle stage to Rs 1,200 against Rs 600 in Classes 9 and 10. That structure is deliberate, because girls' dropout in Madhya Pradesh rises sharply through the secondary stage.
Who is eligible for the state SC scholarship?
A student can claim it if:
- The student belongs to a Scheduled Caste notified for Madhya Pradesh and holds a valid SC certificate from the Sub-Divisional Officer or the competent revenue authority.
- The student is a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh (domiciled in the state).
- The student is studying in Classes 1 to 10 as a regular student in a recognised school, government or private, mapped on the Shiksha Portal.
- The student has a Samagra member ID and completed Samagra e-KYC.
- A bank account in the student's name, or a minor's account with a parent, is available and Aadhaar-seeded.
- For Classes 1 to 5, the listed rate applies to girls.
Who cannot apply or is not eligible:
- Students outside the Scheduled Caste category. Scheduled Tribe students apply through the Tribal Affairs Department's own state scholarship on MPTAAS, and Backward Class and minority students through the Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department's head on the same Shiksha Portal.
- Students who are not permanent residents of Madhya Pradesh, even with an SC certificate issued by another state.
- Students not enrolled as regular students, or enrolled in an institution not recognised and mapped on the Shiksha Portal.
- Students in Class 11 and above, who must move to the post-matric scholarship instead.
- Students without a valid caste certificate. No amount of school certification substitutes for it, and a certificate that the state database cannot trace is treated as absent.
There is deliberately no income test. Where a school or agent asks a Scheduled Caste family for an income certificate for this particular head, ask which circular requires it.
What documents are required?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled Caste certificate | Yes | From the SDO or competent MP revenue authority; digital certificate preferred |
| Samagra ID of the student | Yes | The portal identifies the student by 9-digit Samagra member ID |
| Samagra e-KYC | Yes | Must show complete before sanction |
| School enrolment record | Yes | Regular student in Classes 1 to 10, mapped for the session |
| Aadhaar card | Yes | e-KYC and Aadhaar-seeding of the account |
| Bank passbook | Yes | Student's or minor's account, Aadhaar-seeded, for DBT |
| MP residence proof | No | Usually satisfied by the Samagra family record |
| Income certificate | No | Not required. This head has no income ceiling |
How to apply for the state SC scholarship
- Get the Scheduled Caste certificate for the child, at the tehsil or through praman.samagra.gov.in. The digital certificate is preferred because the portal validates it automatically against the state database.
- Check the Samagra record. Confirm the child has a 9-digit Samagra member ID and that name, date of birth and gender match Aadhaar and the school register. Correct any mismatch in Samagra first, because the Shiksha Portal reads from it.
- Complete Samagra e-KYC with the Aadhaar-linked mobile number, or at a Common Service Centre or MP Online kiosk if the number is not linked.
- Ensure the bank account is Aadhaar-seeded. Ask the branch to seed Aadhaar; giving the branch a photocopy of the Aadhaar card is not the same thing.
- Confirm the school has enrolled the child on the Shiksha Portal for the current session, mapped to the correct class and school.
- Ask the school's scholarship in-charge to file the claim under the state Scheduled Caste scholarship head, attaching the caste certificate details and bank details.
- Check the status yourself on shikshaportal.mp.gov.in using the Samagra ID a few weeks later, rather than assuming the entry has been completed.
How much is paid and when?
The scholarship is a single annual payment at the rate for the child's class and gender, computed on a 10-month academic year and credited by Direct Benefit Transfer after the school's entry is verified and the department sanctions the session's list. There are no instalments and no monthly credit.
The claim has to be made in every academic year. Nothing renews on its own, so a year in which the school does not enter the child is a year with no payment. The rates themselves are fixed by departmental order and can be revised, so treat the table above as the current published position and confirm the year's rate with the school if it matters to your planning.
How to check the application and payment status
- Open shikshaportal.mp.gov.in and go to the student services or scholarship section for the current academic session.
- Enter the student's Samagra member ID.
- Read the stage: entry pending at school, verified, sanctioned, or paid, which tells you exactly where the file is.
- If it shows sanctioned but not credited, verify the account number and IFSC saved in the record, and ask the bank branch whether the account is active and Aadhaar-seeded.
Why claims fail, and how to fix them
- Samagra e-KYC incomplete. This is the single commonest reason a Madhya Pradesh school scholarship never arrives, and the claim looks filed throughout.
- Caste certificate not traceable in the state database. Get a fresh SC certificate issued and have the school update the record.
- Name or date-of-birth mismatch across Samagra, Aadhaar, the caste certificate and the school register. Correct the Samagra record first.
- Child not mapped to the school for the session, so the portal has no record to attach the claim to. Only the school can fix this.
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, so the transfer bounces back to the treasury.
- Bank account closed or dormant, common with accounts opened years earlier for a young child and never used.
- School never filed the claim, which parents usually discover only at the end of the year.
Key dates, related schemes and grievance route
No fixed statewide last date is published for students. Schools enter and verify claims through the academic session, so hand the documents to the school at the start of the year, in June or July, and check the portal status once before the session ends.
After Class 10, Scheduled Caste students move to the post-matric scholarship of the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department. SC girls entering Class 11 can also claim the one-time Rs 3,000 Kanya Saksharta Protsahan incentive. The same department runs hostels, excellence hostels, Gyanodaya residential schools, pre-examination coaching and a UPSC coaching scheme, all worth asking the district office about.
- School scholarship in-charge: first stop, and the fastest fix for portal errors.
- District Scheduled Caste Welfare office: the sanctioning authority.
- Samagra portal: samagra.gov.in for e-KYC and record corrections.
- Madhya Pradesh CM Helpline: 181, for complaints the school and district office have not settled.
No fee is payable to any agent to have a name entered on the Shiksha Portal. Kiosks may charge only the government-notified service charge for assisted e-KYC.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the Madhya Pradesh SC scholarship for Classes 1 to 10 pay?
The rates rise with class: Rs 250 a year for girls in Classes 1 to 5, Rs 200 a year for boys and Rs 600 a year for girls in Classes 6 to 8, and Rs 600 a year for boys and Rs 1,200 a year for girls in Classes 9 and 10. The amounts are computed on a 10-month academic year and paid once a year by Direct Benefit Transfer.
Is there an income limit for the SC scholarship?
No. Madhya Pradesh's consolidated scholarship listing records no income ceiling for the state Scheduled Caste scholarship and states that no income proof is required. The caste certificate and school enrolment are what matter.
Who is not eligible for this scholarship?
Students outside the Scheduled Caste category cannot apply, and neither can students who are not permanent residents of Madhya Pradesh or who are not enrolled as regular students in a recognised school. Scheduled Tribe students apply through MPTAAS and Backward Class students through their own departmental head.
What happens if the child fails a class?
Failing once does not end the scholarship. The state listing specifically records that eligibility continues even where a student fails a year, which makes this head more forgiving than most other scholarships.
Do boys in Classes 1 to 5 get the scholarship?
The consolidated listing records the Classes 1 to 5 rate of Rs 250 a year against girls. Boys enter the scheme from Class 6, at Rs 200 a year. If your school says otherwise, ask to see the current year's circular, because the rate table is revised by departmental order.
How do I apply for the SC scholarship?
The school files the claim on the MP Shiksha Portal at shikshaportal.mp.gov.in against the student's Samagra ID; Madhya Pradesh has no separate student login for school-stage scholarships. Your job is to make sure the caste certificate, Samagra e-KYC and bank details are correct.
How do I check whether the scholarship has been paid?
Open the student services section of shikshaportal.mp.gov.in and enter the student's Samagra member ID to see the benefit status for the session. The screen shows whether the entry is pending at school, verified, sanctioned or paid.
What comes after Class 10?
Scheduled Caste students moving into Class 11 and beyond apply for the post-matric scholarship of the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department, and SC girls entering Class 11 can additionally claim the one-time Rs 3,000 Kanya Saksharta Protsahan incentive.
