Scholarship for Cadets of Sainik School Imphal from Mizoram
Mizoram state government scheme
Scholarship for Cadets of Sainik School Imphal supports Mizo cadets studying at Sainik School Imphal in Manipur, where the Ministry of Defence shares Rs 11,000 to Rs 12,000 per cadet per year of the enhanced fee and dietary charges and the sponsoring state government subsidises tuition fee and dietary charges on a merit slab. Claims are made through the school.
What is the scholarship for cadets of Sainik School Imphal?
Sainik School Imphal is a Ministry of Defence school at PO Pangei Yangdong, Imphal East, Manipur 795114, serving cadets from across the North East, including Mizo cadets from Mizoram. Its stated mission is the all-round development of cadets through academics, sports and co-curricular activities with emphasis on discipline, and its purpose, like every Sainik School, is to prepare cadets for the National Defence Academy.
Because a Sainik School charges a consolidated fee that covers tuition, boarding and messing, fee support is what makes the school reachable for ordinary families. Sainik School Imphal publishes a scholarship scheme document that sets out three separate streams of support, and it opens with the plain statement that the State Government and the Ministry of Defence have been subsidising the tuition fees and dietary charges for cadets studying in the school.
The three streams are:
- A state government merit scholarship that subsidises tuition fee and dietary charges on a slab decided by marks.
- A Ministry of Defence scholarship paid on a full, three-quarter or half scale, together with a share of Rs 11,000 to Rs 12,000 per cadet per year of the burden of enhanced fees and dietary charges.
- A defence scholarship for children of defence personnel, paid by rank.
Who is eligible for the scholarship?
A cadet can claim if:
- The cadet has been admitted to Sainik School Imphal through AISSEE, the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination.
- The cadet scores at least 50 per cent in the entrance examination or the preceding annual examination, which is where the lowest merit slab begins.
- The cadet's sponsoring state government accepts the claim. Fee support at a Sainik School is paid by the state the cadet belongs to, so a Mizo cadet's claim rests with the Government of Mizoram.
A cadet cannot claim, or is not eligible, if:
- The cadet scores below 50 per cent, which falls outside every published merit slab.
- The cadet has not been admitted through AISSEE. There is no direct admission route into a Sainik School.
- The cadet is already getting full reimbursement of tuition fee and dietary charges from a state government scholarship, in that case the Ministry of Defence share of Rs 11,000 to Rs 12,000 per annum is not additionally available, since the published condition attaches it to cadets who are not already fully reimbursed.
- The parent is not defence personnel, for the defence scholarship stream specifically, which is limited to children of NCOs, other ranks and JCOs on the published scales.
How much does each stream pay?

How to apply for the Sainik School Imphal scholarship
- Appear in AISSEE and secure admission to Sainik School Imphal for Class VI or Class IX. Selection is on merit, followed by medical examination.
- Collect the documents — the latest marksheet or annual examination result, an income certificate from the competent authority, proof of permanent residence in Mizoram, and a caste certificate if the cadet belongs to the SC, ST or OBC category, which carries lower marks thresholds on every slab.
- Submit the scholarship claim at the school office with those documents. The school administers all three streams and holds the scholarship file for each cadet; the Administrative Officer's office is the point of contact.
- Add the service certificate if a parent is serving or retired defence personnel, so that the separate defence scholarship of Rs 32,000 or Rs 16,000 can be claimed.
- Renew after each annual examination. Because the state slab is decided by marks, the claim is reassessed every year and the percentage of tuition fee and dietary charges covered can rise or fall with the cadet's result.
Why claims fail, and what to fix
- Marks fall below the slab. A cadet who drops under 50 per cent loses the state merit support entirely until the next annual examination.
- The caste certificate is not filed even though the cadet is SC, ST or OBC. The relaxed thresholds on every slab are worth a full band to a borderline cadet.
- The residence proof does not establish Mizoram domicile, which matters because a sponsoring state pays for its own cadets.
- The claim is not renewed for the new academic year.
- The Ministry of Defence share is claimed alongside a full state reimbursement, which the published condition does not allow.
Which Mizoram office handles a Mizo cadet's file?
The Mizoram Scholarship Board is the nodal state agency for Sainik School scholarships awarded by the Government of Mizoram. The School Education Department notification No. B.17017/1/2010-SED/pt, dated Aizawl the 9 December 2016, which notified the Scholarship Scheme of Sainik School Chhingchhip, names the Mizoram Scholarship Board as the administering authority and was formally copied to the Principal, Sainik School, Imphal/Chhingchhip as well as to the Director of School Education and the Secretary of the Board. That circulation list is the clearest official indication that the Board's remit reaches cadets at Imphal and not only at Chhingchhip.
Practically, this means a Mizo family has two offices to work with: the school office at Imphal, which holds the cadet's scholarship file and processes the Ministry of Defence streams, and the Mizoram Scholarship Board in Aizawl, which sanctions and releases the State Government's share. Under the parallel Chhingchhip notification the State's share is disbursed to the institution directly, reimbursing approved compulsory fees rather than being paid into the parent's account, and renewals are paid from the month following the last month paid in the previous year. Mizo parents at Imphal should ask the school office in writing which of the two routes their cadet's state share follows, and keep the acknowledgement.
Where do I get help?
- Sainik School Imphal, PO Pangei Yangdong, Imphal East, Manipur 795114. The school publishes its scholarship scheme document on ssimphal.nic.in.
- The school's Administrative Officer, who handles admission and scholarship paperwork.
- Sainik School Chhingchhip, Serchhip district, at sschhingchhip.mizoram.gov.in, for Mizo families comparing options. The Government of Mizoram scholarship there is published in full and pays 100 per cent of school fee, dietary charge and clothing money where the parent's income is up to Rs 50,000 a month in the ST or SC category, and 50 per cent between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1,00,000 a month.
What could not be verified. Sainik School Imphal publishes its scholarship slabs and the Ministry of Defence rates, and those figures are reproduced above from the school's own document. A separate Government of Mizoram notification setting out scholarship terms specifically for Mizo cadets at Sainik School Imphal, with its own amounts, income limits, application form or deadline, could not be located on any mizoram.gov.in portal while preparing this guide. This page therefore states only what the school itself publishes, and Mizo parents should confirm the Mizoram-specific terms with the school office before relying on any figure quoted by a third-party website.

Can a Mizo cadet get the scholarship at Sainik School Imphal?
Cadets from Mizoram do study at Sainik School Imphal and are supported through the school's scholarship arrangements, but no separate Mizoram notification setting out slabs for Sainik School Imphal cadets is published on any Government of Mizoram portal that this guide could verify. A Mizo parent should confirm the current terms directly with the school office and with the Government of Mizoram, and should also compare the clearly published Government of Mizoram scholarship at Sainik School Chhingchhip.
How do I get admission to Sainik School Imphal?
Admission is through the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE), the same national examination used by every Sainik School. There is no direct admission and therefore no scholarship without a selection through AISSEE.
Do the scholarship slabs get reviewed every year?
Yes. The state government scholarship at Sainik School Imphal is explicitly described as a merit scholarship based on marks in the annual examination or the entrance examination, so a cadet's slab can move up or down after each annual examination.
