Motorized Tricycle Scheme (Rajasthan)
Rajasthan state government scheme
Motorized Tricycle Scheme gives a free battery-operated or motorised tricycle to Rajasthan residents with 40 per cent or more certified locomotor disability who cannot walk unaided, so they can travel to work, college or hospital without help. Applications are free through the SSO portal or the district Social Justice office.
What is the Motorized Tricycle Scheme in Rajasthan?
Motorized Tricycle Scheme is a Rajasthan state programme under which the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, through its Directorate of Specially Abled Persons, distributes motorised three-wheelers free of cost to residents with severe locomotor disability.
The problem the scheme addresses is specific. A hand-driven tricycle, which is the standard assistive device given out at disability camps, needs upper-body strength and is exhausting over any real distance or on a slope. For a person with a lower-limb disability who has to reach a workplace, a college, a government office or a hospital several kilometres away, a hand-cranked tricycle does not solve the problem. It only shortens the walk they cannot make. A motorised tricycle removes the physical effort altogether and converts local travel from a daily obstacle into a routine trip.
Motorized Tricycle Scheme therefore sits within Rajasthan's larger set of mobility programmes for divyangjan, alongside the Mukhyamantri Divyang Scooty Scheme for students and working persons with disability, and the assistive device distribution camps run in districts. The department's general practice is that a person receives one mobility device, matched to the nature of the disability, rather than several.
Who is eligible for the Motorized Tricycle Scheme?
You can apply if:
- You are a permanent resident of Rajasthan and can produce a domicile or residence certificate.
- You hold a disability certificate or UDID card recording locomotor disability of 40 per cent or more, issued by a competent medical board.
- Your disability is such that you cannot walk unaided and a hand-driven tricycle is not a workable substitute.
- Your family is recorded in Jan Aadhaar, from which the application pulls family and income data.
- You are able to operate the vehicle safely, which the district office assesses.
You are not eligible if:
- Your certified disability is below the threshold, or is not a locomotor disability. Visual, hearing and speech disabilities are served through other device schemes and cannot be used to claim a tricycle.
- You are not a Rajasthan resident.
- You have already received a mobility vehicle, a motorised tricycle or a scooty: from the government and the earlier device has not completed its useful life.
- Your certificate is from a private doctor or an unauthorised issuing officer rather than a competent medical board.
- Your disability, though certified, does not affect independent mobility, so the device is not medically indicated.
Applicants already drawing the Vishesh Yogyajan disability pension are in a strong position: the pension record itself establishes both the disability and the income position, and a PPO copy replaces the income certificate.

How to apply for the Motorized Tricycle Scheme
- Get the disability certificate or UDID card in order first. It must record locomotor disability of 40 per cent or more and be issued by a competent medical board. If yours is an old paper certificate, register for UDID at the district hospital before applying.
- Correct your Jan Aadhaar record. Your name and date of birth in Jan Aadhaar must match Aadhaar exactly. Fix mismatches at an e-Mitra kiosk before you file, because the online form fetches this data and will not let you override it.
- Create or log in to your SSO account at sso.rajasthan.gov.in. Rajasthan routes citizen applications through this single sign-on, and the Social Justice and Empowerment Department's applications for specially abled persons sit inside it.
- Open the specially abled persons application and select the motorised tricycle scheme, then complete the form with your disability details, address and contact number.
- Upload the documents โ certificate, domicile, photograph, and either the income certificate or the pension PPO, and submit the form.
- Save the application number shown on the acknowledgement. Every follow-up with the district office runs on this number.
- Attend the verification when the district Social Justice and Empowerment office calls you. The office confirms the disability and assesses whether you can operate the vehicle.
- Collect the tricycle at the distribution camp on the date you are given. Check the vehicle, the battery or engine and the accompanying papers before leaving.
Applicants who cannot use the online route can file the same application at the district Social Justice and Empowerment office or through an e-Mitra kiosk, which will submit it digitally on your behalf for the notified service charge.
How to check your application status
Log in to sso.rajasthan.gov.in with the same account you used to apply and open the application inside the specially abled persons service to see its current stage. An e-Mitra operator can pull the same status using your application number. For the disability record behind it, the Jan Soochna portal publishes UDID registration status and information on schemes for specially abled persons in Rajasthan.
Why do applications get rejected?
- Disability percentage below the threshold, or the certificate records a non-locomotor disability.
- Certificate not issued by a competent medical board. A hospital letter or private assessment is set aside.
- Jan Aadhaar mismatch. A different spelling of the name, or a date of birth that does not match Aadhaar, which stops the form from validating.
- Domicile not proved, where the applicant has moved to Rajasthan recently.
- Earlier device already received, picked up when the department cross-checks its distribution lists.
- Verification missed. An applicant who does not appear when the district office calls for physical verification is dropped from the selection list for that cycle.
- Demand exceeding the cycle's allocation. Where more eligible applicants apply than there are vehicles for the cycle, a genuine application may simply be carried to the next round. Ask the district office whether the file was rejected or deferred, because the two need different responses.
Where to get help or complain
- Rajasthan Sampark helpline: 181, which registers a trackable complaint.
- Rajasthan Sampark portal for a written grievance.
- District Social Justice and Empowerment officer, the first authority to approach on a rejected or stalled file.
- Directorate of Specially Abled Persons, Jaipur, for escalation.
The motorised tricycle is given free. No fee is payable to the department, and no agent or middleman can charge you for "getting your name into the list".

Frequently asked questions
Who can get a motorised tricycle in Rajasthan?
A permanent resident of Rajasthan with a certified locomotor disability of 40 per cent or more, who cannot walk unaided, can get a motorised tricycle free of cost. The certificate must come from a competent medical board, and a UDID card is the cleanest proof.
Does the motorised tricycle cost anything?
No. Motorized Tricycle Scheme provides the tricycle free of cost, with no down payment, no instalments and no application fee. Only the government-notified e-Mitra service charge applies if you use a kiosk to file the form.
How is this different from the Divyang Scooty Scheme?
Mukhyamantri Divyang Scooty Scheme gives a retrofitted two-wheeler scooty to students and working persons with disability, while the motorised tricycle is a three-wheeled mobility vehicle for people whose disability makes a scooty unsuitable. A person is normally given one or the other, not both.
Can I get a motorised tricycle if I already received a hand-driven tricycle?
Usually not within the life of the earlier device. Assistive-device schemes run on a one-device-per-person rule for a defined period, and a fresh tricycle is considered only once the earlier one has genuinely completed its useful life.
Do I need a driving licence?
A driving licence is not required to apply. What matters at the point of use is that the vehicle is used lawfully, and the district office will explain the registration position for the specific vehicle model being distributed.
Is there an income limit?
Rajasthan's disability device schemes are aimed at low-income applicants, and an income certificate is asked for from applicants who are not already drawing the Vishesh Yogyajan disability pension. Pension-holders attach their PPO instead.
How will I know if I have been selected?
Selected applicants are informed through the district Social Justice and Empowerment office and called to a distribution camp. Status can also be checked with the application number on the SSO portal or at an e-Mitra kiosk.
