TG ePASS Post-Matric Scholarship and Fee Reimbursement (Telangana ePASS)
Telangana state government scheme
TG ePASS Scholarship is the Telangana welfare departments' online post-matric scholarship system that pays Reimbursement of Tuition Fee plus a Maintenance Fee of Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 per month to SC, ST, BC, EBC, Minority and Disabled students. Family income ceilings run from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh. Apply free at telanganaepass.cgg.gov.in within 15 days of admission.
What is the TG ePASS scholarship?
TG ePASS Scholarship, commonly written as Telangana ePASS or TS ePASS, is the single online system through which the Government of Telangana sanctions and disburses pre-matric and post-matric scholarships. According to the About Us page of telanganaepass.cgg.gov.in, online pre-matric and post-matric scholarship disbursement through the e-PASS application is described as one of the important welfare measures of the Government of Telangana, aimed at the educational upliftment of students, and was initiated by the Department of Backward Class Welfare.
The system is not a single scheme with one budget. TG ePASS is the delivery platform used in common by five welfare departments: Scheduled Castes Development, Tribal Welfare, Backward Classes Welfare, Minorities Welfare and Disabled Welfare. Each department retains its own income ceiling and its own budget, but a student applies once on the same portal and the application is routed to the department that matches the student's social category.
The e-PASS portal states that the system links all welfare departments, the treasury, colleges and banks so that scholarships can be disbursed electronically. That chain matters in practice: a student's money moves only after the college verifies attendance and bonafide status, the district welfare officer sanctions, and the treasury releases the payment to the student's Aadhaar-seeded bank account.
Two distinct benefits flow through TG ePASS for a post-matric student:
- Reimbursement of Tuition Fee (RTF), the notified tuition fee for the course, released to the institution.
- Maintenance Fee (MTF). A monthly maintenance or mess charge paid to the student, which the portal describes as "sanctioned every month as per the rates mentioned".
Who is eligible for the TG ePASS scholarship?
You can claim the scholarship if you are a Telangana student in one of these five welfare categories and your annual family income is within the ceiling published on the portal's Who are Eligible page:
| Welfare department | Annual family income ceiling |
|---|---|
| SC Welfare | Rs 2,50,000 or below |
| ST Welfare | Rs 2,00,000 or below |
| BC, EBC and Minority Welfare, rural area | Rs 1,50,000 or below |
| BC, EBC and Minority Welfare: urban area | Rs 2,00,000 or below |
| Disabled Welfare | Rs 1,00,000 parental income or below |
Beyond the income test, the student must be a bonafide student of a recognised institution, must be studying a course and year that matches the admission record, and must have secured admission through the regular convener-led counselling route rather than management or spot quota.
You cannot apply, or your claim will not survive verification, if:
- You were admitted under management quota or spot quota. The e-PASS Reasons for Rejection page names this explicitly.
- Your family income exceeds the ceiling for your welfare department, or the income certificate does not support the figure entered online.
- You are not a bonafide student of the college you have named.
- You discontinued or were detained in the previous year and are applying for a renewal.
- You are claiming a scholarship for a same-level course, a second degree at the same level as one already funded is not supported.
- You have not submitted the caste or income certificate, or have not submitted the signed barcoded hard copy of the application through the college.
Note that eligibility is decided at two levels. The portal maintains separate lists of eligible courses and eligible colleges, so a course at an institution not recognised for e-PASS purposes will not attract a sanction even if the student personally meets every income and caste condition.
How much money does TG ePASS pay?
Maintenance Fee rates published on the Scholarships Offered page of telanganaepass.cgg.gov.in are fixed by course group and by whether the student stays in a College Attached Hostel (CAH) or is a day scholar (DS):
| Group | Courses | CAH rate per month | Day scholar rate per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group-I | Engineering, Medicine, MBA, MCA, CPL | Rs 1,500 | Rs 650 |
| Group-II | PG, M.Phil, PhD, CA, Polytechnic, GNM | Rs 1,500 | Rs 650 |
| Group-III | Degree | Rs 1,000 | Rs 500 |
| Group-IV | Intermediate, ITI, Vocational, MPHW | Rs 750 | Rs 500 |
Reimbursement of Tuition Fee is separate from these amounts and is settled against the notified fee for the course, so a professional-course student typically receives far more value through RTF than through MTF. For BC students in particular, the Backward Classes Welfare Department page of the Telangana state portal records that central assistance received under the centrally sponsored post-matric scholarship scheme is clubbed with state funds and used together to sanction post-matric scholarships.
How to apply for the TG ePASS scholarship
- Get your certificates first. Obtain an integrated caste certificate and a current income certificate from the Tahsildar through Meeseva. Applying without these is the most common cause of a rejected claim.
- Open telanganaepass.cgg.gov.in and choose the post-matric or pre-matric link that matches your stage of study, then register with your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
- Fill the online application with your caste, income, course, year of study, college and bank details. Enter the course and year exactly as they appear on your admission letter: "incorrect course and year of study" is a listed rejection reason.
- Enter a valid bank account. A nationalised bank account or an India Post Payments Bank account number is accepted, and the account must be in the student's own name.
- Complete Aadhaar biometric authentication at a Meeseva centre. The e-PASS Time Line makes this a student responsibility and it cannot be skipped.
- Print the barcoded application, sign it, and submit the hard copy to your college along with the caste certificate, income certificate, bonafide certificate and admission proof.
- Let the college forward it. The principal verifies attendance, local or non-local status, bonafide status and regular or discontinued status, then submits the signed barcode hard copy with documents to the district welfare office.
- Track the sanction using the "Know your application number" link on the portal, and follow up with the district welfare officer if the status does not move.
How to apply offline or with help
TG ePASS has no purely paper route, the application must originate online. What exists is assisted filing:
- Visit any Meeseva centre and ask the operator to file the e-PASS application; Meeseva is also where the mandatory Aadhaar biometric authentication is done.
- Ask your college scholarship section to file it. Most Telangana colleges run a help desk during the admission window because the college itself has to verify and forward every application.
- If your application is stuck, approach the District Welfare Officer of the department that covers your category, SC Development, Tribal Welfare, Backward Classes Welfare, Minorities Welfare or Disabled Welfare.
What happens after you apply?
The e-PASS Time Line page sets out the responsibilities of each party, and it is worth knowing them because a delay is almost always sitting at one of these desks:
- Student: submit the application with documents at the college within 15 days of admission, and complete Aadhaar biometric authentication at Meeseva.
- College or principal: verify the application and forward it for biometric authentication; certify attendance, local or non-local status, bonafide status and whether the student is regular or discontinued; submit the signed barcode hard copy with documents to the district office; and submit utilisation certificates for sanctioned students to the district welfare officer within 15 days of the Reimbursement of Tuition Fee being credited.
- District officer: sanction and release the Maintenance Fee and the Reimbursement of Tuition Fee.
Because RTF is released to the institution and MTF to the student, it is normal for the two to arrive at different times. A student who sees the college fee adjusted but no maintenance money in the bank account has usually hit a bank seeding or account-name problem rather than a sanction problem.
How to check your TG ePASS status
- Open telanganaepass.cgg.gov.in and use the Know your application number link if you have lost your application ID.
- Log in with your application number and date of birth to see the current stage: college verification, biometric authentication, district sanction, or treasury release.
- If the status is stuck at college verification, the file is with your principal, not with the government. Chase the college first.
- If it is stuck after district sanction, check that your bank account number and IFSC are correct and that the account is active and Aadhaar-seeded.
Why TG ePASS applications get rejected, and how to fix them
The portal publishes nine standard rejection reasons. The practical fix for each is different:
- Not a bonafide student — get a fresh bonafide certificate from the college and ensure the college has actually verified you online.
- Incorrect caste or income details, the figures keyed online must match the Tahsildar's certificates exactly. Re-apply with corrected data in the next window.
- Non-submission of caste or income certificates: apply at Meeseva for both and resubmit through the college.
- Incorrect course and year of study. A common data-entry error; correct it through the college before the district office rejects the file.
- Non-submission of the hard copy of the application. The signed barcoded printout is compulsory; an online-only application will not be sanctioned.
- Admitted under management quota or spot quota, this is a substantive ineligibility, not a paperwork problem, and cannot be cured.
- Non-submission of required certificates; check the checklist the college gives you at admission.
- Discontinued or detained at renewal, renewal needs a regular promotion to the next year.
- Claiming scholarship for the same level of course, a second course at the same level as an already-funded one is not supported.
What are the key dates and windows?
The binding student deadline published on the portal is 15 days from the date of admission for submitting the application with documents at the college. The department-wise fresh and renewal windows for each academic year, along with any extensions, are notified on telanganaepass.cgg.gov.in, check the home page notices before assuming a window is still open. Colleges have their own downstream deadline: utilisation certificates for sanctioned students must reach the district welfare officer within 15 days of RTF being credited.

Frequently asked questions
What is the family income limit for the TG ePASS scholarship?
The income ceiling depends on your welfare department — Rs 2,50,000 a year for SC Welfare students, Rs 2,00,000 for ST Welfare students, Rs 1,50,000 for rural BC, EBC and Minority Welfare students, Rs 2,00,000 for urban BC, EBC and Minority Welfare students, and Rs 1,00,000 parental income for Disabled Welfare students. These figures are published on the "Who are Eligible" page of telanganaepass.cgg.gov.in.
How much maintenance money does TG ePASS pay each month?
Maintenance Fee ranges from Rs 500 to Rs 1,500 a month by course group. Group-I (Engineering, Medicine, MBA, MCA, CPL) and Group-II (PG, M.Phil, PhD, CA, Polytechnic, GNM) hostellers in a College Attached Hostel get Rs 1,500 a month and day scholars Rs 650. Group-III (Degree) gets Rs 1,000 for hostellers and Rs 500 for day scholars. Group-IV (Intermediate, ITI, Vocational, MPHW) gets Rs 750 for hostellers and Rs 500 for day scholars.
When should a student apply for TG ePASS?
Apply within 15 days of admission. The e-PASS Time Line page states that the student's role is "submission of application with relevant documents at college within 15 days of admission", followed by Aadhaar biometric authentication at Meeseva. Fresh and renewal windows for each academic year are notified on the portal.
Who cannot get the TG ePASS scholarship?
Students admitted under management quota or spot quota are not eligible, and the portal lists this as a rejection reason. Students whose family income exceeds the ceiling for their category, students who are not bonafide students of the college, discontinued or detained students at renewal stage, and students claiming a scholarship for a same-level course they have already completed are also rejected.
Is Aadhaar biometric authentication compulsory for TG ePASS?
Yes. The e-PASS Time Line page requires the student to complete Aadhaar biometric authentication at a Meeseva centre after filing the application, and the college then verifies and forwards the application for authentication.
Can the scholarship be credited to a post office account?
Yes. The telanganaepass.cgg.gov.in home page notes that an India Post Payments Bank account number is accepted along with nationalised bank accounts for scholarship applications.
Why was my TG ePASS application rejected?
The portal's Reasons for Rejection page lists nine causes — not being a bonafide student, incorrect caste or income details, non-submission of caste or income certificates, incorrect course and year of study, non-submission of the hard copy of the application, admission under management or spot quota, non-submission of other required certificates, being discontinued or detained at renewal, and claiming a scholarship for the same level of course again.
Whom do I contact if the TG ePASS portal is not working?
Call 040-23120311 or 040-23120312 between 10:30 AM and 5:00 PM on working days, or email help.telanganaepass@cgg.gov.in. The e-PASS Project Monitoring Unit is at SPIU, Ground Floor, Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Sankshema Bhavan (DSS Bhavan), opposite Chacha Nehru Park, Masab Tank, Hyderabad.
