Senior Citizen ID Card in Telangana (Telangana): Documentary proof of age and Telangana residence that supports age-based concessions

Telangana state government scheme

Quick answer

Senior Citizen ID Card in Telangana is not published as a separate MeeSeva service, the portal lists 143 active services across 38 departments delivered through 1,269 MeeSeva centres, without a senior citizen card among the highlighted ones. Telangana seniors aged 60 and above instead use MeeSeva Revenue certificates and age proof, applying online or at any MeeSeva centre.

Benefit
Documentary proof of age and Telangana residence that supports age-based concessions, the state Asara pension and senior citizen counters at government offices
How to apply
Both, online on the Telangana MeeSeva portal, or in person at any of the state's MeeSeva centres

Does Telangana issue a senior citizen ID card?

Telangana runs its citizen services through MeeSeva, the state's single-window portal operated by the Centre for Good Governance, and MeeSeva does not publish a standalone Senior Citizen Identity Card among its highlighted services. The portal reports 143 active services across 38 departments, delivered through 1,269 active MeeSeva centres, with the departmental list covering Revenue, Registration, Police, RTA, GHMC, TGSPDCL, HMWSSB, CDMA, Agriculture and Endowments among others. A senior citizen card is not among the services the portal foregrounds.

That matters practically. An elderly applicant in Telangana who walks into a MeeSeva centre asking for "the senior citizen card" will usually be handed something else, a residence or age-related certificate: because that is what the system actually issues. The senior citizen's real business in Telangana breaks into three parts:

  • Age proof, which is what every concession counter in the state reads.
  • Residence and revenue certificates through MeeSeva's Revenue department services.
  • Pension and welfare, applied for separately, with their own income conditions.

Who can and who cannot apply?

You can use Telangana's senior citizen route if you are 60 years of age or above and reside in Telangana. Sixty is the threshold the state administers under the central Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, and it is the age at which transport, banking, hospital and railway concessions begin to read your date of birth differently.

You cannot apply for a Telangana senior citizen identity card as a distinct MeeSeva service, because the portal does not list one; there is no application number to quote and no service charge published for it. You are also not eligible for a residence-based certificate on a temporary stay: MeeSeva Revenue services are issued against ordinary residence in the mandal where the application is filed. And you are not eligible for a state pension merely by reaching 60; pension sanctions in Telangana apply their own income and eligibility conditions that identity documents do not.

No caste, gender or educational condition attaches to age or residence documentation itself.

What documents does a Telangana senior citizen need?

  • Date of birth proof: Aadhaar, birth certificate, SSC marks memo, passport, or a Pension Payment Order for a retired government employee.
  • Aadhaar card, since MeeSeva works on Aadhaar-based identification and Aadhaar is also the payment link for any pension.
  • Residence proof for the mandal: ration card, voter ID, electricity bill or property tax receipt.
  • Passport-size photograph, provided at the counter or uploaded in the portal's format.
  • A mobile number belonging to the senior citizen, because the application number and every status alert arrive by SMS on that number.

Add a bank passbook copy and an income certificate only when you move on to a pension or welfare application, where money is being sanctioned.

Take originals as well as photocopies to a MeeSeva centre. The operator verifies against originals before the application is accepted.

How to apply through MeeSeva in Telangana

  1. Open the Telangana MeeSeva portal at ts.meeseva.telangana.gov.in and look through the department list for the certificate you actually need: in most senior citizen cases that is a Revenue department residence or age-related certificate rather than a card.
  2. Read the service page before applying. MeeSeva publishes the charge and requirement for each service on its own page, so check what that specific service asks for rather than assuming.
  3. File the application with your name exactly as it appears on Aadhaar, parentage, date of birth, and the full address with village or ward, mandal and district.
  4. Attach the age proof, Aadhaar, residence proof and photograph in the formats the upload screen specifies.
  5. Pay the published charge and save the application or certificate number printed on the acknowledgement, that number is the only handle you have on the file afterwards.
  6. Track the application using the status tracking option on the MeeSeva home page, which accepts a certificate or application number directly.

How to apply at a MeeSeva centre

  1. Visit any of the 1,269 active MeeSeva centres with originals and photocopies of your age proof, Aadhaar and residence proof.
  2. Tell the operator which certificate the office demanding it has asked for. "Senior citizen card" is not a MeeSeva service name, so name the actual document.
  3. Give your own mobile number, not the operator's, so the application number and the status SMS reach you.
  4. Pay the published service charge and take the printed receipt, it carries the application number.
  5. Return to collect the certificate, or download it from the portal once the file is approved.

How do you check status and raise a grievance?

The Telangana MeeSeva portal offers status tracking directly from its home page: enter the certificate or application number from your receipt and the current stage appears. MeeSeva also provides grievance and feedback options through its dashboard, which is the route to use when a file has stalled at one stage for longer than the service's stated timeline. The MeeSeva centre that accepted the application can read the same status against the same number, which is usually the fastest option for an applicant who is not comfortable online.

For matters concerning the safety or neglect of an older person rather than a document, the Maintenance Tribunal machinery under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act operates through the district administration, and the Revenue Divisional Officer is the usual first point of contact.

What does it cost, and what about agents?

Every MeeSeva service carries a published charge shown on that service's own page and printed on the receipt the centre hands over. Nothing beyond that printed amount is payable to anyone, not to the MeeSeva operator, not to a departmental clerk, and certainly not to an agent who approaches an elderly person at home offering to "get the senior citizen card done".

Because Telangana does not publish a senior citizen card as a service, any quoted price for one is a fabrication. Elderly applicants are a standing target for identity fraud: never hand over Aadhaar together with the OTP that arrives on your phone, never let an agent register their own mobile number against your application, and insist on the printed MeeSeva receipt for anything you pay. Apply from the portal yourself or at a listed MeeSeva centre.

Why do MeeSeva applications get rejected?

  • The date of birth entered does not match the age proof submitted.
  • The applicant does not ordinarily reside in the mandal where the application was filed.
  • Names differ across Aadhaar, the ration card and the application form.
  • Scanned documents are unreadable, or a document sits in the wrong upload slot.
  • The wrong service was applied for, because the applicant asked for a "senior citizen card" and the operator filed whatever seemed closest.
  • The mobile number on the file belongs to an agent, so the applicant never receives the OTP or the status messages and cannot respond to a query.
  • For a pension application, the income declared crosses the scheme's limit or an excluded pension is already being drawn.

What else should a Telangana senior citizen do?

Treat a clean age proof as the core document and keep certified copies of it. Apply separately for the state pension you qualify for, since that is where the substantive money is, and check the specific scheme's age and income conditions rather than assuming that 60 is enough. Register any address or mobile number change with MeeSeva so future applications and alerts reach you. Where a parent or senior citizen is being denied maintenance by children or relatives, the Maintenance Tribunal is a statutory remedy through the district administration. And note that the national Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY cover extends to Indians aged 70 and above irrespective of income, which is registered separately from anything Telangana issues.

Documents required

Proof of date of birth
Aadhaar, a birth certificate, an SSC marks memo, a passport or a Pension Payment Order. Age is the fact every senior citizen concession in Telangana turns on.
Aadhaar card
MeeSeva runs on Aadhaar-based identification, and the number is also the link for any pension paid afterwards.
Residence proof for Telangana
Ration card, voter ID, electricity bill or property tax receipt for the address in the mandal where the application is filed.
Passport-size photograph
Provided at the MeeSeva counter or uploaded in the format the portal specifies.
Mobile number registered to the applicant
MeeSeva sends the application number and status alerts by SMS, so the number must belong to the senior citizen rather than to an operator.
Bank passbook copyoptional
Required for a pension sanction where money is credited to an account, not for the certificates themselves.
Income certificateoptional
Needed for pension and welfare applications that apply an income test, not for age or residence proof.

Frequently asked questions

Does Telangana issue a separate senior citizen identity card?

Telangana does not highlight a standalone Senior Citizen Identity Card among the 143 active services its MeeSeva portal lists across 38 departments. Seniors in Telangana therefore rely on age proof together with MeeSeva Revenue certificates, and apply separately for pension and welfare benefits.

What is MeeSeva in Telangana?

MeeSeva is the Telangana government's single-window citizen services portal, listing 143 active services from 38 departments and delivered through 1,269 active MeeSeva centres across the state. Departments on the portal include Revenue, Registration, Police, RTA, GHMC, TGSPDCL, HMWSSB, CDMA, Agriculture and Endowments.

How many MeeSeva centres are there in Telangana?

The Telangana MeeSeva portal reports 1,269 active MeeSeva centres, which is why the counter route remains the practical option for most elderly applicants. Any of them can file the same application that the online portal accepts.

At what age does a person become a senior citizen in Telangana?

Sixty years is the standard threshold, following the central Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act that Telangana administers. Individual pensions and concessions may set a different age or add an income test on top.

How do I check my MeeSeva application status?

Use the status tracking option on the Telangana MeeSeva portal with your certificate or application number, which the portal offers directly from its home page. The MeeSeva centre that accepted the application can also read the status against the same number.

What does a MeeSeva service cost?

Each MeeSeva service carries its own published charge, shown on that service's page and printed on the receipt the centre issues. No MeeSeva operator or department official is entitled to any amount beyond the printed charge.

Can a senior citizen in Telangana apply without going to a centre?

Yes for services available on the MeeSeva portal, where an application can be filed and its status tracked online. Applicants who cannot scan documents or complete payment themselves can have the identical application filed at any of the 1,269 MeeSeva centres.

Is a Telangana residence or age proof document renewable?

A date of birth does not change, so age proof never needs renewal. A residence-related certificate is sometimes asked for in a recent copy by individual offices, and MeeSeva allows a fresh application in that situation.
