Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana
Tripura state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana is a Tripura scheme of the Department for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes that gives one-time financial assistance to AAY and Priority Group Scheduled Tribe households to improve their livelihood. It is one of 22 ST welfare schemes onboarded to the state DBT portal, and is applied for through the Tribal Welfare directorate.
What is Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana is a Government of Tripura scheme run by the Department for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes through the Directorate of Tribal Welfare. According to the Tripura State DBT Portal, the scheme provides one time financial assistance to AAY and Priority Group ST households for improving the livelihood of poor ST families.
Two things in that description do the real work. First, the benefit is one-time, not a monthly allowance, so it is designed as a lump sum a family can put into an asset or an income-generating activity rather than as ongoing income support. Second, the targeting is not simply "Scheduled Tribe" but Scheduled Tribe crossed with a food security category; Antyodaya Anna Yojana or Priority Household. Tripura already maintains that classification under the National Food Security Act, so the department can identify the poorest ST families from existing records instead of running a fresh income survey.
The scheme is one of 22 Scheduled Tribe welfare schemes onboarded to the Tripura State DBT Portal at dbttripura.gov.in, alongside pre-matric and post-matric scholarships, boarding house stipends, Jhum Chas Sahajya Prakalpa for jhum cultivators, and the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups scheme. Onboarding to DBT means the payment is made electronically into an Aadhaar-seeded bank account.
Readers may see the name transliterated as Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana or written in Bengali script; "janajati" is the term used in Tripura for tribal communities and "bikash" means development.
An honest note on the amount. The sanctioned rate is not published on the DBT Portal's scheme page or on the Directorate of Tribal Welfare's website, and we did not find it on any other Government of Tripura source. This guide therefore does not state a figure. Ask the district Tribal Welfare office for the order that fixes the current rate.
Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana?
Your household can be covered if:
- The household is a Scheduled Tribe household in Tripura, with a valid ST certificate issued by the competent revenue authority.
- The household holds an AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana) ration card or a Priority Household ration card under the National Food Security Act. This is the poverty marker the scheme uses.
- The household is resident in Tripura.
- The household has an active bank account that can be seeded with Aadhaar for Direct Benefit Transfer.
Your household is not eligible if:
- No member of the household belongs to a Scheduled Tribe notified for Tripura. Non-ST families, however poor, cannot apply under this scheme.
- The ration card is in a non-priority or general category. A household outside the AAY and Priority Group classification falls outside the stated targeting.
- The household is resident outside Tripura, even if its members are Scheduled Tribe.
- The household has already received the one-time assistance. Because the benefit is one-time by design, a repeat claim from the same household is not entertained.
Note that the scheme's description does not mention any occupation test, land requirement or age limit. The gate is the combination of ST status and food security category, which is unusually simple compared with most livelihood schemes.
What documents are required?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled Tribe certificate | Yes | From the competent revenue authority in Tripura |
| Ration card (AAY or Priority Household) | Yes | The category on the card is the eligibility test |
| Aadhaar card | Yes | Needed for DBT payment |
| Bank account passbook | Yes | Must be active and Aadhaar-seeded |
| Residence proof | Yes | To establish residence in Tripura |
| Passport size photograph | No | Usually attached to the application form |
Carry originals for verification along with one photocopy set. The ST certificate and the ration card are the two documents that decide the case, so check that the names on both match your Aadhaar exactly before you submit.
How to apply for Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana
- Collect the application form from your district Tribal Welfare office, or from the block-level tribal welfare functionary. Ask at the same time for the departmental order that fixes the current one-time assistance amount and any conditions attached to how it is used.
- Check your ration card category. Confirm that your household is recorded as AAY or Priority Household under the National Food Security Act. If the card shows a different category and you believe that is wrong, get it corrected at the food and civil supplies office first, because this is the scheme's core eligibility test.
- Assemble the documents; ST certificate, ration card, Aadhaar, bank passbook and residence proof โ and fill the form in the name of the household head.
- Seed your bank account with Aadhaar. The scheme pays by Direct Benefit Transfer, so an account that is not Aadhaar-seeded will cause the payment to fail even after sanction. Your bank branch does this free of charge.
- Submit the completed form at the district Tribal Welfare office and take a dated acknowledgement.
- Follow up on verification and sanction. The office verifies ST status and ration card category against departmental records before the payment is released.
How to check your payment
Tripura publishes scheme-level disbursement figures on the Tripura State DBT Portal at dbttripura.gov.in, where each scheme page shows the total amount transferred, the number of beneficiaries and the number of transactions for the financial year. That dashboard is useful for confirming whether the scheme is disbursing at all in a given year, but it does not let an individual look up her own case.
For your own payment, check the bank account or passbook first, then contact the district Tribal Welfare office quoting your acknowledgement number. A payment that has been sanctioned but not credited almost always points to a bank seeding problem rather than to a rejection.
Why applications get rejected
- Ration card category does not match. The household is not classified AAY or Priority Household.
- ST certificate missing, expired or issued by the wrong authority.
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, so the DBT transfer fails.
- Name mismatch between the ST certificate, ration card, Aadhaar and bank records.
- Duplicate claim from a household that has already drawn the one-time assistance.
- Household outside Tripura, or unable to prove residence.

Frequently asked questions
What does Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana provide?
Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana provides one-time financial assistance to AAY and Priority Group Scheduled Tribe households to improve the livelihood of poor ST families, in the words of the Tripura State DBT Portal. The assistance is a single payment rather than a monthly pension, and it is delivered by Direct Benefit Transfer into the household's bank account.
Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana?
A Scheduled Tribe household in Tripura that holds an Antyodaya Anna Yojana or Priority Household ration card is the target beneficiary. Both conditions matter: the household must be certified Scheduled Tribe and it must fall in one of those two food security categories, which are the state's own markers of a poor household.
How much money does the scheme give?
The sanctioned amount is not published on the Tripura State DBT Portal or on the Directorate of Tribal Welfare website, so this guide does not state a figure. One-time assistance rates under state tribal welfare schemes are fixed by departmental order and revised periodically. Ask your district Tribal Welfare office for the rate currently in force.
Is this a monthly payment?
No. The DBT Portal describes the benefit as one-time financial assistance, not a recurring allowance. A household that receives it should not expect a second instalment in the following year.
Which department runs the scheme?
The Department for Welfare of Scheduled Tribes, through the Directorate of Tribal Welfare at Gurkhabasti, P.N. Complex, Agartala, West Tripura 799006, runs the scheme. The directorate can be reached on +91-381-2323565 or at its call centre number +91-381-2325625.
Can a non-ST poor household apply?
No. Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana is confined to Scheduled Tribe households. Non-ST families below the poverty line are covered by other Tripura departments, such as Social Welfare or the Scheduled Caste welfare wing, rather than by this scheme.
How is the money paid?
The money is paid through Direct Benefit Transfer. Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana is one of the 22 Scheduled Tribe welfare schemes onboarded to the Tripura State DBT Portal at dbttripura.gov.in, which means the payment reaches the beneficiary's Aadhaar-seeded bank account without a cash or cheque step.
What other assistance does the Tripura Tribal Welfare directorate give?
The directorate runs 22 DBT-onboarded schemes, including pre-matric and post-matric scholarships for ST students, boarding house stipends, one time financial support, coaching for IAS aspirants and for job-oriented examinations, financial assistance to hardcore jhumias under Jhum Chas Sahajya Prakalpa, merit awards, and the scheme for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups.
