Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa
Tripura state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa is Tripura's state social pension, paying Rs 2,000 per month to vulnerable women, persons with 60 percent or more disability, and old or infirm people who have no other support. In Khowai district alone 2,825 beneficiaries draw it. Apply free through your Block or Sub-Divisional office.
What is Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa?
Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa is the social pension of the Government of Tripura, administered by the Directorate of Social Welfare and Social Education from its headquarters at Malancha, Ujan Abhoynagar, Agartala. The name is Bengali and is often transliterated as Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa or written in short as MSSP; readers also search for it simply as "Tripura social pension".
The scheme pays a flat Rs 2,000 per month to residents of Tripura who have no dependable means of support. That figure is not an estimate. It comes from an official statement issued through the Directorate of Information and Cultural Affairs on 30 October 2024, reporting on the scheme in Khowai district, which stated that each beneficiary receives Rs 2,000 a month.
The same statement gives a picture of how widely the pension runs in a single district. In Khowai district, 2,825 beneficiaries were drawing the social pension, spread across the blocks as follows:
| Block or urban area | Beneficiaries |
|---|---|
| Kalyanpur block | 550 |
| Mungiakami block | 450 |
| Teliamura block | 431 |
| Tulashikhar block | 425 |
| Padmabil block | 352 |
| Khowai block | 333 |
| Teliamura municipal area | 192 |
| Khowai municipal area | 92 |
| Total | 2,825 |
Khowai is one of Tripura's eight districts and among the smaller ones by population, so the statewide beneficiary count runs far higher.
Why the scheme exists. Tripura already administers the centrally funded National Social Assistance Programme pensions through the same Directorate. Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa sits alongside those as a state-funded pension, designed so that a vulnerable person who falls outside the central criteria, or whose central pension is too small to live on, still receives a monthly amount from the state.
Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa?
The scheme covers three broad groups, each with its own qualifying test.
You can apply if you are a resident of Tripura and you fall into one of these:
- A vulnerable woman. A widow, a deserted woman, or an unmarried woman in need of special care, support or protection, who has no earning member supporting her.
- A person with a disability certified at 60 percent or more. The certificate has to come from the District Assessment Board constituted under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and the Tripura Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2018.
- An old or infirm person who has no regular source of income and no family member able to support them.
Alongside the category test, an applicant must:
- be a resident of Tripura, evidenced by ration card, voter ID or a residence certificate;
- fall within the low-income group the scheme targets, evidenced by an income certificate from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate or Tehsil office;
- hold an Aadhaar-seeded bank account in their own name.
You cannot apply, or you are not eligible, if:
- You are not a resident of Tripura. This is a state scheme and does not travel with a beneficiary who moves out.
- You are already drawing a similar government pension for the same purpose, from the state or from a central scheme. Aadhaar-based de-duplication catches the overlap and one claim is cancelled.
- Your household income is above the ceiling the sanctioning committee applies, or the income certificate does not support the claim.
- You are a serving or retired government employee drawing a service pension, or a member of a household with a regular earning member able to provide support.
- You are applying in the disability category but your certificate shows less than 60 percent disability, or the certificate is not from the District Assessment Board.
- The application is made in the name of a person who has died; pensions are personal and are not inherited.
How much does the pension pay, and when?
Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa pays Rs 2,000 per month, which works out to Rs 24,000 a year for a beneficiary on the list for a full year. The amount is the same across all three categories, a vulnerable woman, a person with 60 percent disability and an old or infirm person all receive the same rate.
Payment is by Direct Benefit Transfer to the beneficiary's own bank account. Tripura routes social welfare payments through the state DBT framework hosted at dbttripura.gov.in, where the Department of Social Welfare is the largest single scheme owner with 46 onboarded schemes out of 203 across 30 departments. That matters practically: the Aadhaar-to-bank seeding is what makes the money arrive, and a broken seeding is the most common reason a sanctioned pension does not reach a beneficiary.
What documents are required?

How to apply for Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa
- Collect the social pension application form from your Block Development Office, Sub-Divisional Office, Nagar Panchayat or Municipal Council. The Directorate also carries downloadable forms in the document section of socialwelfare.tripura.gov.in.
- Fill in the form and mark the category you are applying under — vulnerable women, person with disability, or old and infirm. Applying under the wrong category is a common cause of delay, because the scrutiny checklist differs for each.
- Attach the documents listed above, self-attested. Get the disability certificate or income certificate first if you do not already hold one; those are the two that take longest to obtain.
- Submit the form at the same office and collect a dated receipt. Note the receipt number; it is the only reference you have until a sanction order is issued.
- The office forwards the file to the District Social Welfare office, which scrutinises the documents and places the case before the sanctioning authority. A field enquiry by the block-level functionary is normal at this stage.
- Once sanctioned, your name is added to the payment list and the Rs 2,000 monthly DBT begins. Check your bank passbook, not your phone, for the first credit: many beneficiaries miss it because no SMS alert is registered.
How do I check my application or payment status?
- At the Block or Sub-Divisional office where you submitted the form, using the dated receipt number. This is the reliable route for a pending case.
- At the District Social Welfare office, which holds the scrutiny and sanction file.
- At your bank branch, once sanctioned, by passbook entry. A pension that was sanctioned but never credited is almost always a bank-side problem.
- The Directorate's website, socialwelfare.tripura.gov.in, publishes social pension notices, orders and circulars in its notice board and archive sections.
Why applications get rejected, and how to fix them
- Income certificate missing or too high. Get a fresh certificate from the SDM office rather than arguing the point at the block office.
- Disability certificate below 60 percent, or issued by an authority other than the District Assessment Board. Reassessment through the District Assessment Board is the only fix.
- Aadhaar not seeded to the bank account, so the DBT cannot land. Take your Aadhaar and passbook to the bank branch and ask for seeding, then inform the block office.
- Name mismatch between Aadhaar, bank account and the application. Correct the Aadhaar first; every other record is checked against it.
- Duplicate pension already running in the applicant's name under another scheme.
- Applicant not resident in the block where the form was submitted. Apply in the block where you actually live.
Key dates and validity
Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa runs as an open, rolling scheme. The Directorate has not announced a fixed annual last date for applications; completed applications are scrutinised and placed before the sanctioning authority as they come in, subject to the sanctioned beneficiary ceiling for the district. Where the Directorate does fix a cut-off for a particular round of applications, it publishes the date as a notice on its website, for example a notice specifying a last date of 6 May 2025 for receiving applications for a Directorate process. Check the notice board before assuming a window is open.
Once sanctioned, the pension continues month to month; it is not re-applied for annually. It stops on the death of the beneficiary, on migration out of Tripura, or if a verification finds the eligibility conditions no longer hold.

Frequently asked questions
How much money does Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa pay?
Rs 2,000 per month per beneficiary. The Khowai district Social Welfare and Social Education office confirmed this rate in an official statement dated 30 October 2024, which recorded 2,825 beneficiaries drawing the pension in that district alone.
Who runs Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa?
The Directorate of Social Welfare and Social Education, Government of Tripura, runs it, working through District Social Welfare offices, Block Development Offices and municipal bodies. The Department of Social Welfare is the largest scheme owner on the Tripura State DBT Portal with 46 onboarded schemes.
Which categories of people are covered?
Three broad categories are covered — vulnerable women, persons with disabilities, and old and infirm persons. Vulnerable women includes widows, deserted women and unmarried women in need of care and support; the disability category requires a certified disability of 60 percent or more.
Can a person already drawing another government pension apply?
No. A person already drawing an old age, widow or disability pension from another government source for the same purpose is not eligible, because the state runs de-duplication on Aadhaar before sanction. Applying twice results in one claim being cancelled, not in two pensions.
How do I apply for the Tripura social pension?
Submit the application form with your documents at your Block Development Office, Sub-Divisional Office or municipal body, which forwards it to the District Social Welfare office for scrutiny and sanction. There is no fee at any stage.
How is the pension paid?
By Direct Benefit Transfer into the beneficiary's own bank account, month by month. Tripura routes its social welfare payments through the state DBT framework, which is why the Aadhaar-bank seeding matters more than any other single document.
What happens if the pension stops coming?
The usual cause is a bank-side failure — the account has gone dormant, the Aadhaar seeding has broken, or the name on the account no longer matches the record. Take your passbook and Aadhaar to the Block office; the fix is almost always at the bank, not at the sanctioning office.
Is Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa the same as the central old age pension?
No. Mukhyamantri Samajik Sahayata Prakalpa is a Tripura state scheme, distinct from the centrally funded National Social Assistance Programme pensions that the same Directorate also administers. The state scheme has its own sanction list and its own Rs 2,000 monthly rate.
