Mukhyamantri Konya Bibaha Yojana
Tripura state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Konya Bibaha Yojana gives one-time financial assistance of Rs 50,000 for the marriage of a daughter of an Antyodaya (AAY) ration card family in Tripura, for up to two daughters per family. The bride must be at least 18 and the groom at least 21. Applications are offline through the Child Development Project Officer's office.
What is Mukhyamantri Konya Bibaha Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Konya Bibaha Yojana is a marriage-assistance scheme of the Government of Tripura, run by the Directorate of Social Welfare and Social Education. The scheme pays one-time financial assistance of Rs 50,000 for the marriage of a daughter of a family holding an Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration card, the poorest category recognised under the public distribution system.
The problem the scheme addresses is well documented in Tripura's welfare literature. For an Antyodaya household, the cost of a daughter's wedding is routinely met by borrowing from a moneylender at high interest or by selling whatever small asset the family holds. Both consequences persist for years after the wedding. Mukhyamantri Konya Bibaha Yojana puts a fixed sum into the bride's own bank account so that the family is not forced into that debt, and so that the money is held in the name of the woman it is meant for.
The scheme is reported to cover approximately 2,000 families a year, and it appears on the Directorate of Social Welfare and Social Education's own scheme list with downloadable application forms.

- Marriage registration is compulsory.
- Money is paid into the bride's own bank account.

Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Konya Bibaha Yojana?
Your family can claim the assistance if:
- The bride's family holds an Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration card issued in Tripura.
- The bride is a permanent resident of Tripura, evidenced by a PRTC or domicile certificate.
- The bride has completed 18 years of age on the date of marriage.
- The groom has completed 21 years of age on the date of marriage.
- The marriage is registered and a registration certificate is available.
- The bride has a bank account in her own name for the transfer.
- Not more than two daughters of the family have already received the benefit.
You are not eligible if:
- The family holds a BPL, priority household or general ration card rather than an Antyodaya card. This is the sharpest boundary in the scheme and the most common reason a poor family is turned away.
- The bride is under 18 or the groom is under 21. Beyond scheme rules, this is the legal minimum age for marriage in India, and an application in such a case cannot be entertained at all.
- The marriage is not registered.
- The family is not domiciled in Tripura.
- This is the third or later daughter of the family to seek the benefit.
What documents are required?
| Document | Mandatory | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Antyodaya (AAY) ration card | Yes | The core eligibility document |
| PRTC or domicile certificate | Yes | Bride's residence in Tripura |
| Aadhaar of bride and groom | Yes | Identity of both |
| Age proof of bride | Yes | Birth certificate or school leaving certificate, 18+ |
| Age proof of groom | Yes | Birth certificate or school leaving certificate, 21+ |
| Marriage registration certificate | Yes | Compulsory under the scheme |
| Bride's bank passbook | Yes | Payment goes to her own account |
| Photographs | Yes | Bride, groom and normally the couple |
Two documents cause most of the delay. The marriage registration certificate takes time to obtain if the marriage was not registered promptly, and the bride's bank account often does not exist yet in households where no woman has held an account. Both are worth arranging in the weeks around the wedding rather than after.
How to apply for Mukhyamantri Konya Bibaha Yojana
- Visit the office of the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) for your block or project area and ask for the Mukhyamantri Konya Bibaha Yojana application form. The form is also available in the downloadable-forms section of socialwelfare.tripura.gov.in.
- Register the marriage with the marriage registrar and obtain the registration certificate, if this has not already been done.
- Open a bank account in the bride's own name if she does not have one, and collect the passbook.
- Fill the application form with the bride's details, the groom's details, the Antyodaya card number, the date of marriage and the bride's bank account number and IFSC code.
- Attach self-attested photocopies of the Antyodaya ration card, PRTC, both Aadhaar cards, both age proofs, the marriage registration certificate, the bank passbook and the photographs.
- Submit the complete application at the CDPO office and take an acknowledgement with a date on it.
- The CDPO verifies the application and the household's Antyodaya status, then forwards it to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM).
- The SDM approves the case and the Rs 50,000 is released to the bride's bank account.
There is no online application for this scheme. Any website offering to file a Konya Bibaha Yojana application for a fee is not connected to the Directorate.
How much is paid and when?
Mukhyamantri Konya Bibaha Yojana pays a flat Rs 50,000, once. The amount does not vary by district, by category or by the family's circumstances, and it is not split into instalments.
Payment is made by bank transfer into the bride's own account, not the father's or the husband's. This is a deliberate design choice. The assistance is treated as belonging to the woman. Families should therefore make sure the account is in the bride's sole name and that the name on the passbook matches the name on her Aadhaar and on the marriage registration certificate, since a mismatch is the commonest cause of a failed transfer.
The time from submission to credit depends on how quickly the CDPO completes verification and the SDM approves. Applicants should follow up at the CDPO office with their acknowledgement slip if there is no news after several weeks.
How to check your application status
- Return to the CDPO office with your acknowledgement slip. The office maintains the register of received and forwarded applications.
- Ask whether the file has been forwarded to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, and note the date and reference.
- If the file is with the SDM, follow up at the Sub-Divisional office.
- Check the bride's bank passbook or account statement once approval is confirmed, since no separate intimation may be sent.
The scheme has no SMS tracker or online status page, so the acknowledgement slip is the single most important piece of paper to keep.
Why applications get rejected
- Family does not hold an Antyodaya card. A BPL or priority card is not a substitute.
- Marriage not registered, or the registration certificate not attached.
- Bride under 18 or groom under 21 on the date of marriage.
- Bank account not in the bride's own name, or the name spelling does not match Aadhaar.
- Two daughters of the family have already been assisted, exhausting the family limit.
- PRTC missing, so residence in Tripura is unproven.
- Application submitted long after the marriage without an explanation, which makes verification difficult.
Most rejections are documentary rather than substantive. Where the Antyodaya card itself is the issue, for example, the family qualifies for Antyodaya but has not been reclassified — the correct route is the Food and Civil Supplies Department, not the Social Welfare office.
Where to get help or raise a grievance
- Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of your block, the receiving and verifying authority.
- Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). The approving authority.
- Anganwadi worker in your village or ward, who can help a family that cannot read or fill the form.
- Directorate of Social Welfare and Social Education, Government of Tripura: telephone 0381-2326033, website socialwelfare.tripura.gov.in.
Mukhyamantri Konya Bibaha Yojana costs nothing to apply for. The form is free, no official may charge for verification, and the entire Rs 50,000 must reach the bride's account undiminished. Any demand for a cut should be reported to the SDM or the Directorate.
