Mukhyamantri Bagwani Mission: Anjeer Vikas Yojana
Bihar state government scheme
Anjeer Vikas Yojana is the fig component of Bihar's Mukhyamantri Bagwani Mission, launched on 30 August 2025 across 32 districts. The Agriculture Department fixed the fig cultivation unit cost at Rs 1.25 lakh per hectare and pays a 40 percent subsidy of Rs 50,000 per hectare. Farmers apply free at horticulture.bihar.gov.in.
What is the Anjeer Vikas Yojana in Bihar?
Anjeer Vikas Yojana: also written as Anjeer Fal Vikas Yojana, the Fig Development Scheme, is one of the newest components of the Mukhyamantri Bagwani Mission, the umbrella horticulture programme of the Agriculture Department, Government of Bihar, run through the Directorate of Horticulture.
The Bihar Agriculture Department launched the fig component on 30 August 2025. Fig is not a traditional Bihar crop. It is normally associated with Kashmir, Maharashtra and parts of western India, and introducing it in the Gangetic plain is a deliberate diversification experiment: a high-value cash crop added to the state's horticulture basket so that a farmer has an income stream that does not compete with the existing mango, litchi and banana calendars.
Fig also fits a specific gap. It is comparatively drought-tolerant and does well on light, well-drained soils where a water-hungry orchard crop would struggle, so parts of south Bihar's drier belt are plausible fig country in a way they are not banana country.
How much subsidy does Anjeer Vikas Yojana give?
The Agriculture Department fixed the cost of fig cultivation at Rs 1.25 lakh per hectare and set the state subsidy at 40 percent of that cost, which is Rs 50,000 per hectare.
Reporting around the 2025-26 launch also referred to a first-year release of Rs 30,000 per hectare, described as covering 60 percent of the first-year cultivation cost. Read together, the sensible reading is that the Rs 50,000 per hectare total is released across years, with the largest share in the planting year. The same front-loaded pattern used in the mission's banana, mango and papaya components.
Because the component is new and the year-wise split has been reported inconsistently outside official documents, treat Rs 50,000 per hectare as the reliable ceiling and confirm the exact instalment schedule for the current financial year on horticulture.bihar.gov.in or with your District Horticulture Officer before committing money.
All payments are made by Direct Benefit Transfer to the Aadhaar-seeded account tied to your DBT Agriculture registration.
Which districts are covered?
Fig cultivation under this component was extended to 32 districts of Bihar, which reportedly include Arwal, Bhojpur, Buxar, Gopalganj, Jehanabad, Lakhisarai, Madhepura, Saran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Siwan, Supaul, Araria, Aurangabad, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, East Champaran, Jamui, Khagaria, Kishanganj, Madhubani, Munger, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, Patna, Gaya, Rohtas, Purnia, Samastipur, Vaishali and West Champaran.
That is nearly the whole state, which makes Anjeer Vikas Yojana one of the widest-spread components of the Bagwani Mission; unusual for a brand-new crop. District lists are revised annually with the department's action plan, so check the current year's notification.
Who is eligible for Anjeer Vikas Yojana?
You can apply if:
- You are a resident farmer of Bihar with cultivable land in one of the notified fig districts.
- You hold a valid 13-digit DBT Agriculture registration number from dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in.
- You are a ryot farmer with land in your own name, or a non-ryot (tenant) farmer with a registered lease or sharecropping agreement.
- Your bank account is in your own name and Aadhaar-seeded, since payment is by DBT only.
- Your plot is suitable: fig needs well-drained land, and the District Horticulture Officer can advise on this before you apply.
You are not eligible / cannot apply if:
- Your land lies in a district not notified for fig in the current financial year.
- You have no DBT Agriculture registration, or the name on it does not match your Aadhaar.
- You cannot produce a land record, and you are not a tenant with a registered agreement either.
- Your bank account is not Aadhaar-seeded or is a joint account not in your own name.
- The district physical target is already exhausted — selection runs against a fixed hectare target, so a fully eligible farmer can still be waitlisted.
- You have already drawn assistance for the same plot under the same component within the guideline gap period.
The mission's beneficiary reservation pattern applies here as elsewhere: approximately 78.56 percent general, 20 percent Scheduled Castes, 1.44 percent Scheduled Tribes, with 30 percent women within each category.

How to apply for Anjeer Vikas Yojana
- Complete farmer registration at dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in and note your 13-digit DBT registration number. Nothing on the horticulture portal opens without it.
- Go to horticulture.bihar.gov.in and open the Scheme Dashboard on the home page.
- Select the fruit schemes group, then Anjeer Vikas Yojana (Fig Development Scheme), and start a new application.
- Enter your 13-digit DBT registration number. Your name, address and bank details are pulled in automatically, verify them rather than assuming.
- Fill in plot details: district, block, panchayat, village, khata, khesra and the area in hectares.
- Upload the land document, photograph, lease deed if you are a tenant, and caste certificate if claiming a reserved seat.
- Submit and keep the acknowledgement and application number.
The Bihar Krishi app on Google Play carries the same application flow. A Block Horticulture Officer or Vasudha Kendra can submit on your behalf if you cannot use either.
How the subsidy is released
- Block horticulture staff verify the application and you are selected against the district's fig target.
- Planting material is arranged through departmental Centres of Excellence and registered nurseries: critical for fig, since good fig planting material is not routinely available in Bihar's private market.
- You plant at the prescribed density.
- Staff carry out physical verification of the plantation, and the first instalment is credited by DBT.
- Later instalments, where applicable, follow annual survival verification.
No money is released simply for filing the form. Under Anjeer Vikas Yojana, as in every Bagwani Mission component, the payment follows the plants.
How to check your application and payment status
- Return to horticulture.bihar.gov.in and open the Anjeer Vikas Yojana page.
- Use the application status / print application option with your application number or DBT registration number.
- For payment, check the Aadhaar-seeded passbook, or ask the District Horticulture Officer for the release status against your application number.
Why fig applications get rejected
- District not notified for fig in that financial year.
- Missing or mismatched DBT registration, including a name that differs from Aadhaar.
- Land document of a different khesra from the one entered in the form.
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, so the DBT credit fails and returns.
- Tenant applying without a registered lease deed, an informal arrangement is not accepted.
- Plot found unsuitable at inspection, for example waterlogged land where fig will not survive.
- Plantation not found at physical verification.
- District target exhausted, which places the application on a waiting list.
Corrections to name, Aadhaar or bank details must be made in the DBT Agriculture profile; the horticulture portal only mirrors that record.
Key dates, help and grievances
Anjeer Vikas Yojana opens financial-year-wise once the Agriculture Department's annual action plan is approved, and closes when the announced window ends or the district target is filled. No permanent year-round window has been announced for this component.
Because fig is new to the state, the District Horticulture Officer is the most useful first contact, for suitability advice, for planting material and for grievances. Escalate from there to the Directorate of Horticulture through the contacts published on horticulture.bihar.gov.in, and then to the Bihar Lok Shikayat Nivaran grievance route. Applying is free, and nobody can charge a farmer for selection.

Press reports of the 2025-26 launch also referred to a first-year release of Rs 30,000 per hectare, so confirm the current-year release pattern on horticulture.bihar.gov.in before you plan your spending.
When was the fig scheme launched in Bihar?
The Bihar Agriculture Department launched Anjeer Fal Vikas Yojana on 30 August 2025. Fig is a new introduction for Bihar, traditionally associated with Kashmir and western India rather than the Gangetic plain.
How many districts does Anjeer Vikas Yojana cover?
Fig cultivation under this component was extended to 32 districts of Bihar, including Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Purnia, Rohtas, Samastipur, Vaishali, East Champaran and West Champaran, making it one of the widest-spread components of the Bagwani Mission.
Who can apply for the fig subsidy in Bihar?
Any resident Bihar farmer with cultivable land in a notified district and a valid 13-digit DBT Agriculture registration number can apply. Both owner (ryot) and tenant (non-ryot) farmers are covered, tenants using a registered lease deed.
Is fig a suitable crop for Bihar soil?
Fig is drought-tolerant and does well on well-drained soils, which is why the Agriculture Department positioned it as a high-value diversification crop rather than a mass crop. Farmers on heavy waterlogged land should discuss suitability with the District Horticulture Officer before applying.
How is the money paid?
Payment is made by Direct Benefit Transfer into the Aadhaar-seeded bank account linked to your DBT Agriculture registration, and only after block staff physically verify that the fig plants are actually in the ground.
Is there any fee to apply for Anjeer Vikas Yojana?
No. DBT Agriculture registration and the horticulture application are both free. Only a Vasudha Kendra or CSC may charge the small notified fee for typing assistance.
