What is Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana?

Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana (MMRY) is Bihar's women's self-employment grant. The scheme transfers a first instalment of Rs 10,000 directly into a woman's own bank account so she can start or strengthen a small income-earning activity, and holds out further staged assistance for beneficiaries whose enterprise is later reviewed and found to be running.

Bihar launched the scheme on 26 September 2025, and the first instalment has since been released in large batches; roughly 75 lakh women in the opening round, with further batches of about 25 lakh women each in the months after. The scheme is run through the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (BRLPS), better known as JEEViKA, under the Rural Development Department, on a dedicated portal at mmry.brlps.in. That institutional choice matters: JEEViKA already has a self-help group network reaching into almost every panchayat, and MMRY was built on top of it rather than on a new field structure.

Key features

  • Rs 10,000 first instalment paid by Direct Benefit Transfer.
  • A grant, not a loan; no interest, no repayment, no collateral.
  • Paid to the woman's own Aadhaar-seeded bank account, not to a husband's or father's account.
  • One woman per family, so duplicates within a household are flagged.
  • Delivered through JEEViKA community cadres, who handle identification, survey and verification at village level.
  • Followed by staged assistance for women whose enterprise passes review.

Reports of the later tranche have quoted figures from Rs 20,000 upward, and a cumulative ceiling running into lakhs of rupees, but the amounts and conditions of anything beyond the first instalment should be read off mmry.brlps.in or confirmed at the block JEEViKA office before a woman plans spending around them.

Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana?

You can be enrolled if:

  • You are a woman and a permanent resident of Bihar.
  • You are broadly in the 18 to 60 age band used for the scheme.
  • You intend to start or run a self-employment activity, a shop, a food or tailoring unit, livestock, a small manufacturing or service trade.
  • You hold Aadhaar and a bank account in your own name, seeded with that Aadhaar for DBT.
  • No other woman in your family has already been taken as a beneficiary.

JEEViKA self-help group members were covered first and remain the core identified group, because the scheme runs on JEEViKA's household and group data.

You are not eligible, or will not be paid, if:

  • You are not a resident of Bihar.
  • Another woman in the same household has already received the instalment, the scheme is one per family.
  • Your bank account is in someone else's name, is joint, is dormant, or is not Aadhaar-seeded. DBT cannot reach any of these.
  • You register more than once. Duplicate Aadhaar entries are rejected, and the duplicate can delay your genuine claim.
  • You are outside the notified age band for the round.

Men cannot apply. Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is a women-only scheme by design, and the account it pays into must belong to the woman herself, that single condition is what makes the money hers rather than the household's.

What documents are required?

Document Mandatory Notes
Aadhaar card Yes The applicant's own; drives identification and DBT
Bank account details Yes Own-name, Aadhaar-seeded account with correct IFSC
Mobile number Yes For OTP and instalment alerts
Residence proof of Bihar Yes Voter ID, ration card or residential certificate
Proposed activity details Yes The trade you intend to run; checked at later review

Nothing here costs money to obtain. If your bank account is not yet Aadhaar-seeded, that one branch visit is the most useful thing you can do before registering, because seeding is the commonest reason a credit fails.

How to apply for Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana

  1. Open the official portal at mmry.brlps.in and choose the registration or beneficiary option shown for the current round.
  2. Enter your Aadhaar number and mobile number, and verify with the OTP sent to that mobile. Do not let anyone else receive or read the OTP.
  3. Fill in your personal and residence details: name, father's or husband's name, district, block, panchayat and village โ€” exactly as they appear on your Aadhaar.
  4. Enter your bank details: account number typed twice, IFSC, bank and branch name. Confirm the account is in your own name.
  5. State the self-employment activity you plan to start or expand.
  6. Submit and save or photograph the acknowledgement or reference number shown on screen.
  7. Complete verification through JEEViKA. A community mobiliser, Community Coordinator or self-help group cadre in your village will confirm your household details, and payment follows district-level approval of that batch.
  8. Watch your bank passbook and SMS alerts for the DBT credit, and check payment status on the portal if it does not arrive with your batch.

If you cannot register online, go to your block JEEViKA office with your Aadhaar, bank passbook and mobile phone. Registration through JEEViKA cadres is the intended offline route in villages, and it is free.

How is the money paid?

Bihar pays the first instalment as a single Rs 10,000 DBT credit to the woman's own account. Payment happens in state-wide batches announced by the government rather than one case at a time, which is why whole villages are often paid on the same day. No cash is handed over at any office, and no cadre is authorised to collect a share.

The later tranche is conditional, not automatic. Bihar has tied it to a review of whether the enterprise the woman described actually started. A woman who spends the first Rs 10,000 on the stated activity, and can show the shop, stock, machine or livestock at review, is in a far better position than one who cannot.

How to check your MMRY status

  1. Open mmry.brlps.in and select the beneficiary or payment status option.
  2. Enter your Aadhaar number or registered mobile number and submit.
  3. Read whether your case shows as registered, verified, approved or paid.
  4. Cross-check against your bank passbook, since the bank record is the only final proof of a DBT credit.
  5. If the portal shows payment but the bank shows nothing, take the reference number to your bank branch first, then to the block JEEViKA office.

Why payments fail, and how to fix them

  • Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, the leading cause. Ask the branch specifically for Aadhaar seeding for DBT.
  • Account in a husband's or father's name, or a joint account. Open one in your own name.
  • Dormant or closed account. A long-unused account will bounce the credit.
  • Name mismatch between Aadhaar and the bank record.
  • Duplicate registration from the same family, held for examination.
  • Verification not completed by the JEEViKA cadre. The commonest silent hold-up, and the one that is solved fastest by walking into the block office.

Which department actually runs the scheme?

Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is implemented by BRLPS (JEEViKA) under the Rural Development Department, which is why the portal sits on the brlps.in domain. Bihar's Industries Department runs the state's other entrepreneurship programmes; Mukhyamantri Udyami Yojana and Bihar Laghu Udyami Yojana, both on udyami.bihar.gov.in, and women who want a much larger enterprise grant or loan should look at those separately. The two families of schemes are distinct, with different portals, different amounts and different selection routes.

Where to raise a grievance

  • Your JEEViKA Community Mobiliser or self-help group, for registration and verification problems at village level.
  • The block JEEViKA office, for verification that has not moved, duplicate flags and payment queries.
  • The District Project Coordination Unit of BRLPS, for unresolved district cases.
  • Your bank branch, whenever the portal shows a payment that your passbook does not.

Registration is free from start to finish. No one may charge you to be added to the list, and no genuine official will ever ask for the OTP sent to your phone.

Documents required

Aadhaar card
Establishes identity and drives the DBT payment. Must be the applicant's own Aadhaar, not a family member's.
Bank account details
Account must be in the woman's own name and Aadhaar-seeded, because the instalment is paid by Direct Benefit Transfer.
Mobile number
Used for OTP at registration and for instalment alerts.
Residence proof of Bihar
Voter ID, ration card or a residential certificate. The scheme is for residents of Bihar.
Details of the proposed self-employment activity
The trade or business you intend to run. This is what the later review of the enterprise is checked against.

Frequently asked questions

How much money does Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana give?

The scheme pays a first instalment of Rs 10,000 into the woman's own bank account by Direct Benefit Transfer. Bihar has described further staged assistance for beneficiaries whose enterprise is reviewed and found to be running, but a woman should treat only the Rs 10,000 first instalment as confirmed and check mmry.brlps.in for the terms of any later tranche.

Do I have to repay the Rs 10,000?

No. Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana pays a grant, not a loan. There is no interest, no EMI and no bank guarantee. The money is meant to be spent on starting or expanding a small income-generating activity, and later assistance depends on that activity actually existing.

Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana?

Women who are permanent residents of Bihar, broadly in the 18 to 60 age band, and who intend to start or run a self-employment activity are the target group. Bihar has run the scheme with only one woman per family taken as a beneficiary, and has used JEEViKA self-help group networks heavily for identification and verification.

Where do I register for MMRY?

Register on the official portal at mmry.brlps.in, run by the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society (JEEViKA). In villages, JEEViKA community mobilisers and self-help group cadres do most of the enrolment and verification legwork, so your block JEEViKA office is the correct place to go if you cannot register online.

How do I check whether my Rs 10,000 has arrived?

Use the beneficiary or payment status option on mmry.brlps.in with your Aadhaar or registered mobile number, and check your own bank passbook or SMS alerts. A DBT credit lands in the bank account directly, so the bank record is the final proof, not any list circulated on social media.

Can two women in the same family get the money?

No. Bihar has run the scheme on a one-beneficiary-per-family basis, so a second registration from the same household is flagged as a duplicate. Filing twice does not increase the amount and can hold up the genuine claim while the duplicate is examined.

Is JEEViKA self-help group membership compulsory?

JEEViKA membership has been the main identification and verification channel for the scheme, and self-help group members were covered first in the early batches. Whether membership is a strict bar in the current round is best confirmed at your block JEEViKA office, because the coverage instructions have widened batch by batch.

Does anyone charge a fee for MMRY registration?

No. Registration is free, and no JEEViKA cadre, cyber cafe or agent is authorised to take a cut of the Rs 10,000. Anyone demanding money to "get your name added to the list", or asking for the OTP sent to your phone, is running a fraud and should be reported at the block office.
