What is the Haryana Science Talent Search Scheme?

The Haryana Science Talent Search Scheme, usually written as HScTSS, is a state scholarship examination for school students, conducted under the aegis of the Haryana State Council for Science, Innovation and Technology, Panchkula. The examination itself is run by the Examination Wing of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Haryana, which was set up in 1998 and handles the state's scholarship competitive examinations.

According to the SCERT Haryana Examination Department page, the Exam Wing is responsible for the preparation of question papers, preparation of the merit list, declaration of the result, and assistance in disbursement of the scholarship. The same wing conducts the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS), the National Talent Search Examination Level-1, and the Mukhya Mantri Saksham scheme, which is why HScTSS notices, admit cards and results frequently appear alongside those exams on the SCERT website.

The scheme's purpose is to identify students with an aptitude for science early in their school career and to support them financially so that the aptitude is not lost for want of money.

How many HScTSS scholarships are there?

The scheme awards 1,000 scholarships, split into two separate quotas:

  • 500 scholarships for government, aided and recognised schools affiliated to the Board of School Education Haryana, Bhiwani.
  • 500 scholarships for schools of other boards, including CBSE, ICSE and others.

The split matters more than it might appear. Because the two pools are ranked separately, a student in a rural government school is competing against other Haryana Board students, not against a CBSE cohort, a design choice that keeps the awards spread across school types rather than concentrated in a handful of private schools.

Who is eligible for HScTSS?

You can appear if:

  • You are a school student in Haryana studying in a government, aided, recognised or other-board school within the state.
  • You have secured at least 55% marks in the previous class if you belong to the general category.
  • You have secured at least 50% marks in the previous class if you belong to a reserved category.
  • Your school forwards your application through the SCERT online process within the notified window.

Who cannot apply / who is not eligible:

  • Students below the qualifying percentage — under 55% for general category and under 50% for reserved categories.
  • Students in schools outside Haryana, since both quotas are defined by school location and board within the state.
  • Students whose school does not forward the application, because HScTSS is filed through the institution and not as a private candidate.
  • Applications submitted after the closing date in the SCERT notification.

What documents are required for HScTSS?

How to apply for HScTSS

  1. Watch scertharyana.gov.in for the year's HScTSS notification in the NTSE/NMMS/HScTSS section. This is where the application window, exam date and the year's scholarship amount are published.
  2. Ask your school's examination in-charge to open the online application. The form is filled online only, and the school is the filing channel.
  3. Enter the student's personal details, class, board, category and previous class percentage exactly as they appear on the school record and mark sheet.
  4. Upload the photograph, signature, mark sheet and category certificate where a reserved-category claim is made.
  5. Have the school verify and submit the form before the closing date, and keep a printed copy of the submitted application.
  6. Download the admit card from scertharyana.gov.in when SCERT publishes it, and appear at the allotted centre on the notified exam date.

How to check the HScTSS result

  1. Open scertharyana.gov.in and go to the NTSE / NMMS / HScTSS section.
  2. Look for the provisional merit list first; SCERT publishes it for verification before the final result, and this is the stage at which a documentary error can still be corrected.
  3. Check the correct list. Separate results are issued for Haryana Board schools and for other-board schools.
  4. Where the school's data is wrong, have the school write to the Exam Wing during the verification window rather than after the final result.

Common reasons a HScTSS application fails

  • Previous class percentage below the threshold for the student's category.
  • Category certificate not attached where the relaxed 50% mark was claimed, so the general-category threshold is applied instead.
  • Wrong board or school type entered, which puts the student in the wrong quota of 500.
  • School did not forward the application before the closing date.
  • Bank or Aadhaar details mismatched, which does not affect selection but stops the scholarship payment after selection.

A note on figures. The scholarship amount payable under HScTSS is fixed in each year's advertisement and is not carried as a standing figure on the SCERT or Haryana DBT scheme pages. We have deliberately not printed an amount here rather than repeat an unverified number. Frequently asked questions

What is the Haryana Science Talent Search Scheme?

The Haryana Science Talent Search Scheme (HScTSS) is a state-level scholarship examination conducted under the aegis of the Haryana State Council for Science, Innovation and Technology, Panchkula, with the SCERT Haryana Exam Wing responsible for holding the examination, preparing the merit list, declaring the result and assisting in disbursement of the scholarship.

How many HScTSS scholarships are awarded?

1,000 scholarships are awarded in total — 500 for government, aided and recognised schools affiliated to the Board of School Education Haryana, Bhiwani, and 500 for schools of other boards including CBSE and ICSE. Splitting the quota this way stops private-board students and government school students from competing against each other for the same seats.

What marks do I need to be eligible?

A student needs a minimum of 55% marks in the previous class for the general category and a minimum of 50% marks for reserved categories. The qualifying percentage is checked from the previous class mark sheet at the time the school forwards the application.

How do I apply for HScTSS?

The HScTSS application form is filled online only on scertharyana.gov.in. In practice the school is the filing channel — the school verifies the student's class, board and marks and forwards the application before the date SCERT notifies.

How much is the HScTSS scholarship worth?

The scholarship amount is fixed in each year's HScTSS advertisement issued by SCERT Haryana and is not published as a permanent figure on the department's scheme pages. Check the current year's notification on scertharyana.gov.in before applying, and do not rely on figures circulated by coaching centres.

Is HScTSS the same as NTSE or NMMS?

No. HScTSS is a separate Haryana state scheme, although the same SCERT Haryana Exam Wing conducts NTSE Level-1, the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS), the Mukhya Mantri Saksham scheme and HScTSS. Students often apply for more than one, and admit cards for several of these exams are issued together.

Where are the results published?

Results are published on scertharyana.gov.in under the NTSE/NMMS/HScTSS section, usually as a provisional merit list for verification followed by a final result. Separate lists are issued for Haryana Board schools and for other-board schools, matching the two 500-scholarship quotas.
