Mukhyamantri Rajya Bridhhabasta Pension Yojana (Jharkhand Old Age Pension)
Jharkhand state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Rajya Bridhhabasta Pension Yojana pays Rs 1,000 a month to elderly residents of Jharkhand; from age 60 for men of the general category and from age 50 for women, Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes after the January 2024 change. Applications are made free at jharsewa.jharkhand.gov.in or a Pragya Kendra.
What is Mukhyamantri Rajya Bridhhabasta Pension Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Rajya Bridhhabasta Pension Yojana is the old age pension scheme of the Government of Jharkhand. Mukhyamantri Rajya Bridhhabasta Pension Yojana pays Rs 1,000 per month to elderly residents of the state, transferred directly into the beneficiary's bank account. The scheme is administered by the Directorate of Social Security under the Department of Women, Child Development and Social Security, and delivered through the block and district administration.
The scheme is known locally as Mukhyamantri Rajya Vridhavastha Pension Yojana and simply as Jharkhand Vridha Pension. All three names refer to the same monthly pension.
The defining change came on 29 January 2024, when the Jharkhand cabinet reduced the qualifying age from 60 years to 50 years for women, Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes. The state estimated that roughly 18 lakh additional people would become eligible, bringing total coverage under the state's social security pensions to about 35.68 lakh beneficiaries. That reduction reflects a real demographic argument in Jharkhand: life expectancy and working capacity in tribal and manual-labour households fall well before 60, so a pension that starts at 60 arrives late for the people who need it most.
Key features
- Rs 1,000 per month, paid by direct benefit transfer.
- Age 60 for general-category men; age 50 for women, Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes.
- Paid monthly and for life, subject to annual life verification.
- No application fee; applications through Jharsewa, Pragya Kendras or the block office.
- Part of a set of three social security pensions on Jharsewa: old age, disability and widow pension.
Who is eligible for the Jharkhand old age pension?
You can apply if:
- You are a permanent resident of Jharkhand.
- You are aged 60 years or above, or 50 years or above if you are a woman, or a man belonging to a Scheduled Tribe or Scheduled Caste.
- You hold both an Aadhaar card and a voter ID card, both of which the scheme specifically requires.
- You have a bank account in your own name, seeded with Aadhaar.

How to apply for the Jharkhand old age pension
- Open or check a bank account in your own name and confirm that Aadhaar is seeded to it. Pension payments run entirely through DBT, so a joint account in a son's name or an unseeded account will fail.
- Collect the documents: Aadhaar card, voter ID, residence certificate, age proof, bank passbook, two photographs, and a caste certificate if you are an SC or ST man claiming from age 50.
- Register on Jharsewa. Go to jharsewa.jharkhand.gov.in, create a citizen account, and open the Old Age Pension Scheme service under social security.
- Fill the application form with your personal details, category, age, bank details and address, and upload scanned copies of the documents.
- Submit and save the application reference number. Everything afterwards, status tracking, follow-up at the block office, grievance β needs this number.
- Or apply through a Pragya Kendra. Jharsewa states plainly that services are available through Pragya Kendras, where the operator fills and submits the form for you. This is the practical route for most elderly applicants.
- Or submit the form offline at the block office or the office concerned, which Jharsewa lists as the third accepted channel.
- Cooperate with verification. The block office verifies age, residence and the two exclusions before sanctioning. Sanction is followed by monthly credit.
How to check your pension application status
- Open jharsewa.jharkhand.gov.in.
- Go to the Citizen Section and click Track Application Status Report.
- Log in and enter your application reference number.
- If the application shows as sanctioned but no money has arrived, check the bank passbook and then ask the block office whether the DBT transfer failed.
Why Jharkhand old age pension payments stop
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, or Aadhaar seeded to a different account from the one declared.
- Annual life verification not done. Pensions are periodically re-verified; a beneficiary who does not complete verification is suspended.
- Name or date-of-birth mismatch between Aadhaar, voter ID and the bank record.
- Another pension detected in the beneficiary's name, triggering the no-double-pension rule.
- Government service or pension of the applicant or spouse discovered during verification.
- Account dormant or closed, which causes the transfer to bounce back.
- Beneficiary shown as deceased in records, sometimes wrongly, which requires a correction at the block office.
How does this pension relate to Jharkhand's other pensions?
Jharsewa lists three social security pensions as separate services: the Old Age Pension Scheme, the Disability Pension Scheme and the Widow Pension Scheme. An applicant qualifies for only one of them at a time, which is why the self-declaration about other pensions sits at the centre of the application. A widow aged 52 in Jharkhand, for example, now has a genuine choice, since the age reduction to 50 for women opened the old age pension to her as well; she should ask the block office which of the two she is better placed under rather than filing for both, because a duplicate claim stops payment on both files while it is investigated.
Jharkhand also runs the Mukhyamantri Aadim Jan Jati Pension Yojana for members of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups, which has its own age and eligibility rules. Households should check which of the state's pensions fits best before applying, since switching later means a fresh application and a fresh verification cycle rather than a transfer of the existing file.
When is the pension credited each month?
Mukhyamantri Rajya Bridhhabasta Pension Yojana pays Rs 1,000 every month, released through the state treasury to the district and then transferred by DBT. Credits are batched, so a whole block often receives the pension on the same day and a beneficiary whose neighbours have been paid but who has not been should treat that as a signal to check the account rather than wait another month. Arrears for sanctioned months are normally released together once a stopped file is corrected, so a beneficiary who fixes an Aadhaar seeding problem in the third month usually receives the earlier months as well rather than losing them.
