What is the Alpsankhyak Post-Matric Chhatravritti Yojana?

Alpsankhyak Post-Matric Chhatravritti Yojana. The Post-Matric Scholarship for Minority Students, supports students from India's six notified minority communities who continue their education beyond Class 10. In Madhya Pradesh the state-side responsibility sits with the Department of Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare (bcwelfare.mp.nic.in), while applications themselves are made and processed on the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in.

According to material published by Madhya Pradesh district administrations, the scheme covers admission and course or tuition fees plus a maintenance allowance, with a reported ceiling of around Rs 7,000 a year for both hostellers and day scholars, of which up to Rs 3,000 is the admission and course fee component. Eligibility turns on two hard numbers: the parents' annual income from all sources must not exceed Rs 2 lakh, and the student must have scored at least 50% in the last final examination passed.

The scheme has run in Madhya Pradesh since 2009. It is a post-matric scheme, which means it begins at Class 11 and continues through Class 12, undergraduate, postgraduate, technical and professional courses at recognised institutions.

Key features

  • Applies only to the six notified minority communities: Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain and Parsi.
  • Covers Class 11 upwards, including degree, technical and professional courses.
  • Two components: fee support and a maintenance allowance.
  • Applied for online and free on the National Scholarship Portal.
  • Paid by Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's own Aadhaar-seeded account.

Who is eligible for the minority post-matric scholarship in Madhya Pradesh?

A student qualifies when all of the following hold:

  • The student belongs to one of the six notified minority communities.
  • The student is a resident of Madhya Pradesh applying through the state.
  • Parents' annual income from all sources is Rs 2 lakh or less, per the figure stated by MP district administrations.
  • The student secured 50% or more in the last final examination passed.
  • The student is enrolled in a recognised institution listed on the National Scholarship Portal, in Class 11 or above.
  • The student has an Aadhaar number, a completed One Time Registration on the portal, and a bank account in their own name.

Who is not eligible and cannot apply:

  • Students from communities outside the six notified minorities, they should use the SC, ST, OBC or general-category schemes instead.
  • Families whose annual income exceeds the ceiling.
  • Students who scored below 50% in the last examination passed, including continuing students whose marks fell in the year just completed.
  • Students studying at an institution not listed on the National Scholarship Portal, which cannot verify an application at all.
  • Students already drawing another scholarship for the same course and year.
  • Students at pre-matric level, that is Class 10 and below, who fall under a different scheme entirely.
  • More than the permitted number of children in one family, where the current-year guidelines impose a per-family cap.

How to apply for the minority post-matric scholarship

  1. Open the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in and complete One Time Registration (OTR) using your Aadhaar number and an Aadhaar-linked mobile number. OTR gives you a reference number you will reuse every year.
  2. Log in and select Post-Matric Scholarship for Minorities, choosing Madhya Pradesh as your state of domicile and the correct academic year.
  3. Fill in the academic section: institution name and code, course, year of study, board or university, previous examination roll number and percentage. Take the institution and course codes from your college scholarship cell rather than searching for them yourself.
  4. Enter your bank account number and IFSC. The account must be in your own name and Aadhaar-seeded, because payment is by DBT and a parent's account will not work.
  5. Upload the scanned documents โ€” community certificate, income certificate, previous marksheet, domicile, fee receipt, passbook page and photograph, in the sizes and formats the portal states.
  6. Submit the application and print the acknowledgement carrying the application ID.
  7. Hand the printed application with a photocopy set to your institution's scholarship nodal officer so the institute can verify it on the portal before its own deadline. An application no institution verifies is never sanctioned.
  8. Note both deadlines from the portal notice: the student submission date and the institute verification date, which comes later and is the one most claims fail on.

Is there an offline route?

The minority post-matric scholarship has no paper application form. The National Scholarship Portal is the only route. Students without their own device should use:

  • The institution's scholarship cell, which is free and is in any case the office that must verify the form.
  • A Common Service Centre, which may charge only its own notified typing and scanning fee, never a fee for the scholarship.
  • The district Minority Welfare or Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare office in your district for state-level problems.

How much does the scholarship pay?

Madhya Pradesh district administrations describe the benefit as admission and course or tuition fee support up to Rs 3,000, plus a maintenance allowance, within an overall ceiling of about Rs 7,000 per annum covering both hostellers and day scholars. Exact per-course rates are fixed in the current-year guidelines published on the National Scholarship Portal, and they differ between course groups, so read the guideline PDF for your own course rather than assuming the ceiling applies to you.

Money is credited by Direct Benefit Transfer in one or more instalments after the institution has verified the claim and the sanction has been passed. Nothing is paid before institute verification, which is why the timing of the college's action decides when the student sees the money.

When are applications open?

The National Scholarship Portal opens the post-matric minority window once each academic year, typically in the middle of the calendar year, with a submission last date some months later and an institute verification date after that. For the 2025-26 cycle the portal ran a window that opened in June 2025 and closed for student submissions on 31 October 2025, with institute verification to end 30 November 2025. Dates are re-announced each year and often extended, so the live notice on scholarships.gov.in is the only reliable source.

How to check application and payment status

  1. Log in at scholarships.gov.in with your application ID or OTR reference.
  2. Open Check Your Status and read the exact stage: submitted, verified by institute, verified by district, sanctioned, or paid.
  3. If it is stuck at institute level, the file is with your college and only the college can move it.
  4. If it shows sanctioned but not credited, check Aadhaar seeding of your bank account with your branch. An unseeded account is the standard cause of a failed DBT.

Why minority post-matric applications get rejected

  • Hard copy never submitted to the institution after online submission.
  • Institute or course code mismatch, so the form lands in the wrong queue.
  • Income certificate above Rs 2 lakh or issued in an earlier financial year.
  • Below 50% in the last examination passed.
  • Bank account not in the student's own name, or not Aadhaar-seeded.
  • Duplicate scholarship detected for the same course and year.
  • Institution missed its verification deadline, the largest single cause.

Where the error is clerical and the window is still open, correct the form and resubmit through your institution. Once the portal locks, the district Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare office is the only route, and it can act only in limited cases.

Where to complain

  • Institution scholarship nodal officer; first stop for verification and code problems.
  • National Scholarship Portal helpdesk: 0120-6619540, the helpline published on scholarships.gov.in.
  • District Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare office in your district, for state-side eligibility and sanction disputes.
  • CM Helpline 181, the Madhya Pradesh government's general grievance line.

Applying is free. No official will ask for your portal password or your Aadhaar OTP, and no agent can charge a commission for "getting a scholarship sanctioned".

Frequently asked questions

Which communities count as minorities for this scholarship?

Six communities are notified as minorities for this scholarship - Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain and Parsi. A student from any other community is not eligible under this scheme and should look at the SC, ST, OBC or general-category scholarships on the MP Scholarship Portal instead.

What is the income limit for the minority post-matric scholarship?

Madhya Pradesh district administrations state that the parents' annual income from all sources must not exceed Rs 2 lakh. The income certificate must be current and issued by the competent revenue authority; an old or inflated certificate is one of the commonest reasons a claim is rejected.

How much money does the minority post-matric scholarship give?

Madhya Pradesh district administrations report a ceiling of about Rs 7,000 a year covering both hostellers and day scholars, made up of an admission and course fee component of up to Rs 3,000 plus a monthly maintenance allowance. Exact rates by course group are set in the current-year guidelines on the National Scholarship Portal.

Where do I apply for the minority post-matric scholarship in MP?

Apply on the National Scholarship Portal at scholarships.gov.in, not on the MP Scholarship Portal. Minority post-matric scholarships in Madhya Pradesh are processed through the national portal, and the state's Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department handles the state-side coordination.

Is a minimum percentage needed to apply?

Yes, the student must have secured at least 50% marks in the last final examination passed. This applies at every stage from Class 11 upwards, so a renewal is also refused if the student falls below the mark in the year just completed.

Do I have to renew the scholarship every year?

Yes. Every applicant, fresh or continuing, must submit an application on the National Scholarship Portal in each academic year during the announced window. A renewal is not automatic and lapses if the window closes without a submission.

Can I claim this along with another scholarship?

No. A student may draw only one scholarship at a time for the same course and year. Claiming the minority post-matric scholarship alongside another state or central scholarship leads to one of them being cancelled and the money being recovered.

Why has my application been rejected at the institute stage?

The commonest causes are a hard copy never submitted to the institution, a course or institute code that does not match the portal record, an unverified Aadhaar or bank account, or the institution missing its own verification deadline. Ask the institution nodal officer to show you the exact rejection remark on the portal.
