Ration Card in Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh state government scheme
Ration Card in Madhya Pradesh is administered by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection through Rationmitra at rationmitra.nic.in, which the NFSA portal lists as the state's official ration card source. Madhya Pradesh runs its NFSA beneficiary records on the Samagra platform, with entitlements visible on epos.mp.gov.in and a district grievance officer for every district.
What is a ration card in Madhya Pradesh?
A ration card in Madhya Pradesh is the household record maintained by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection (खाद्य नागरिक आपूर्ति और उपभोक्ता संरक्षण विभाग) that entitles a family to subsidised foodgrain from a fair price shop under the National Food Security Act, 2013. The department also runs Legal Metrology, the M.P. Warehousing and Logistics Corporation and the M.P. State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited, which handles procurement and movement of the grain that reaches the shops.
Madhya Pradesh differs from most states in one important respect: its beneficiary records sit on the Samagra platform. The state's NFSA system is published at nfsa.samagra.gov.in, and the household's Samagra ID; not a card number alone: is the spine of the record. The card is, in effect, a printout of a family's entry in a database that the local body and the food department maintain jointly.
Which portals should I actually use?
The department names four systems on its own site, each doing a different job:
- Rationmitra, rationmitra.nic.in. Information on eligible beneficiaries and fair price shops under NFSA. The NFSA portal lists Rationmitra's district-wise ration card summary as the official ration card detail source for Madhya Pradesh. Rationmitra also carries the district supply officer directory.
- ePoS: epos.mp.gov.in. Information on the foodgrain entitlement of eligible NFSA beneficiaries, drawn from the point-of-sale machines at fair price shops.
- SCM, scm.mp.gov.in. Information on the allocation of foodgrain to eligible households and shops.
- NFSA on Samagra; nfsa.samagra.gov.in. The state's NFSA beneficiary system, which also publishes the district-wise list of District Grievance Redressal Officers.
Is BPL a separate certificate in Madhya Pradesh?
No. Under the National Food Security Act, 2013 the household is either an Antyodaya Anna Yojana family or a Priority Household, and that status is a category in the food department's beneficiary record rather than a certificate issued separately on request. A family that wants "a BPL certificate" is almost always looking for proof of its NFSA category, and the practical proof is the household's own entry in the state's beneficiary record: visible on Rationmitra and on the ePoS entitlement screen — rather than a distinct document from another office.
Who is eligible for a ration card in Madhya Pradesh?
Eligibility under the National Food Security Act is by notified category. Madhya Pradesh admits families to the NFSA list on the basis of categories the state has notified; such as households registered under specified labour, welfare and social security groups, rather than by a general application on income alone. The consequence for a family is that the first question at the counter is not "how much do you earn" but "which notified category does your household fall in, and what registration proves it".
Who cannot apply: a family that does not fall in any notified eligible category cannot be added to the NFSA beneficiary list, and a person already recorded on another household's entry cannot be added to a second one without deletion from the first. Families who have moved out of Madhya Pradesh are not eligible here; under One Nation One Ration Card they draw their entitlement wherever they are on their home-state record.
Under the Act, a Priority Household receives 5 kg of foodgrain per person per month and an Antyodaya Anna Yojana household receives 35 kg per household per month.
How to get a ration card in Madhya Pradesh
- Get the family's Samagra registration right first. Madhya Pradesh's NFSA records run on the Samagra platform, so a family that is not correctly registered with a family Samagra ID and member IDs cannot be attached to a ration card record. Corrections to names, ages and members are made in the Samagra record.
- Approach the local body. The Gram Panchayat in a village or the urban body (nagar palika, nagar nigam or nagar parishad) in a town, with the Samagra ID, Aadhaar of all members, residence proof and the document proving your notified eligible category. The local body's verification is what puts a household on the state's list.
- Follow it up at the district food office. The District Supply Officer for your district, whose contact is published on rationmitra.nic.in and food.mp.gov.in, is the departmental authority for the district's ration card and fair price shop matters.
- Complete Aadhaar e-KYC for every member. Without member-level e-KYC the household cannot authenticate on the fair price shop's ePoS machine, and the entitlement will show as undrawn on epos.mp.gov.in.
- Verify the record online. Once the family appears on Rationmitra and the entitlement shows on ePoS, the record is live and grain can be drawn from the attached fair price shop.
Madhya Pradesh does not publish a citizen-facing step-by-step form, a fee or a statutory time limit for a new ration card on its own departmental sites in a form that can be verified here. The food department's site itself carries a "Website Under Construction" notice. Treat the local body and the District Supply Officer as the authority on the exact form and the current process, and do not rely on private websites quoting figures the department has not published.
What does it cost?
No fee for a new ration card is published on the Madhya Pradesh food department's own sites. The correct approach is to ask at the Gram Panchayat, urban body or district food office what the government's listed charge is, pay only that, and take a receipt. Any private agent quoting a price to "get a ration card made" in Madhya Pradesh is charging for something the local body does as part of its statutory duty, the sanction depends on the verification of your family's category, which no middleman controls.
How do I check my ration card in Madhya Pradesh?
Open rationmitra.nic.in and use the public beneficiary and fair price shop reports to check whether your household appears in your district's list. Then open epos.mp.gov.in to see the entitlement recorded against the household and the transactions drawn at the shop. Allocation to your shop is visible on scm.mp.gov.in. Between them, these three portals answer most "is my card working" questions without a visit to an office.
Where do I complain?
Madhya Pradesh appoints a District Grievance Redressal Officer (DGRO) for every district for complaints under the National Food Security Act, and the department publishes the district-wise list of these officers at nfsa.samagra.gov.in. That is the statutory route: Section 14 of the Act requires every state to have an internal grievance mechanism, and the DGRO is it.
Escalate as follows:
- The fair price shop dealer, for a wrong quantity or a refused transaction.
- The District Supply Officer, whose contacts are listed on rationmitra.nic.in and food.mp.gov.in.
- The District Grievance Redressal Officer for the district, from the list published on nfsa.samagra.gov.in.
- The Madhya Pradesh State Food Commission, the appellate body over the DGRO; the department publishes its member notifications on food.mp.gov.in.
For portability problems while drawing rations in another state, the national One Nation One Ration Card helpline is 14445. The department also directs state-level queries to the CM Helpline and runs state and district consumer dispute redressal commissions for consumer grievances that are not PDS-specific.
