Mukhyamantri Kalyani Vivah Sahayata Yojana, Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Kalyani Vivah Sahayata Yojana of Madhya Pradesh pays Rs 2,00,000 into the bank account of a Kalyani. A widow, who remarries. The scheme started in 2018, needs the bride to be 18 and the groom 21, and excludes income tax payers, government employees and family pension holders. Applications go to the district Social Justice office.
What is Mukhyamantri Kalyani Vivah Sahayata Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Kalyani Vivah Sahayata Yojana is a marriage incentive of the Social Justice and Divyangjan Empowerment Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh. Under the scheme, a Kalyani, the word Madhya Pradesh uses for a widow, who remarries receives Rs 2,00,000 directly into her own bank account.
According to the department's scheme page, the state started the scheme to encourage Kalyani remarriage. It is the marriage-assistance counterpart of the Kalyani Pension Yojana, and it sits alongside two other departmental marriage schemes: Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah / Nikah Yojana and Nishakt Vivah Protsahan Yojana: of which only one can ever be drawn for the same wedding.
The scheme was rolled out in 2018; the department's implementation instructions to districts carry the date 28 June 2018. Follow-up orders were issued on 26 September 2022, on 25 February 2025 asking districts to publicise the scheme widely, on 17 April 2025 to shift the scheme to online working through the state's Vivah Portal, and on 24 March 2026. Kalyani Vivah Sahayata Yojana is also carried in the state's notified services list under the Madhya Pradesh Public Services Guarantee Act, 2010, as service 7.20.
Key features
- One-time incentive of Rs 2,00,000, credited to the Kalyani's own account.
- No BPL condition and no compulsion to marry in a mass marriage.
- Filed at the district that issued the marriage certificate, not necessarily where the couple lives.
- Administered by the Collector and the Joint or Deputy Director, Social Justice, at district level.
Who is eligible for Kalyani Vivah Sahayata?
You can claim the Rs 2,00,000 if:
- You are a Kalyani. A widow, and a native of Madhya Pradesh, and the man you have married is also a native of Madhya Pradesh.
- You were 18 years or older on the date of the marriage, and your husband was 21 years or older.
- You are not an income tax payer.
- You are not a government employee or officer. The department defines this as service under the state or central government or under any corporation, undertaking or institution funded in the government interest.
- You are not drawing a family pension.
- The man you have married has no other living wife.
- The marriage has been registered and a marriage certificate has been issued.
Two clarifications from the department's own conditions are worth noting. First, there is no BPL restriction. A Kalyani above the poverty line is equally eligible. Second, the marriage need not be a mass marriage; a single marriage is also accepted.
You are not eligible if:
- You are an income tax payer, a government employee or officer, or a family pension holder. Each of these is an express exclusion.
- The man you married already has a living wife.
- You or your husband are not natives of Madhya Pradesh.
- You were under 18 at the wedding, or your husband was under 21.
- You have already taken Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah / Nikah Yojana or Nishakt Vivah Protsahan Yojana for the same marriage. Where a Kalyani's wedding takes place inside a Kanya Vivah mass marriage ceremony, only the Kalyani benefit is paid, not both.
- You are a divyang Kalyani or your husband is divyang and you are claiming the disability marriage incentive as well — in that situation too, only the Kalyani Vivah Sahayata is payable.

How to apply for Kalyani Vivah Sahayata Yojana
- Get the marriage registered and collect the marriage certificate. Note the district whose office issued it, that district decides your case, even if you now live somewhere else.
- Fill the prescribed application form of the Social Justice and Divyangjan Empowerment Department, available at the district office and through the department's scheme page.
- Attach the documents: marriage certificate, death certificate of the first husband, age proof of both spouses, residence proof, Aadhaar, bank passbook copy and the declaration about the husband's marital status.
- Submit the application at the office of the Collector, or the Joint Director or Deputy Director, Social Justice, of that district. The department requires the office to hand you an acknowledgement; ask for it and keep it.
- Since the order of 17 April 2025, the department also works the scheme through the state Vivah Portal. Ask the district office to register your case on the portal and note the case number.
- The office records the application in a register and files all documents for audit, then processes the sanction. The Rs 2,00,000 is credited to the Kalyani's bank account.
How to apply with help at the district level
- Approach the Joint Director or Deputy Director, Social Justice office at the district headquarters and ask specifically for the Kalyani Vivah Sahayata form. Staff there also handle the Kalyani Pension Yojana, so name the scheme precisely.
- If your marriage was solemnised in a Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah / Nikah Yojana mass marriage, tell the office at the outset. You are still eligible for the Kalyani benefit, but the Kanya Vivah amount will not be paid on top.
- If you have minor children from the first marriage, mention this while applying. The department's instructions deal separately with the position of such children.
How do I check whether the money has been sanctioned?
Follow up with the district Social Justice office using the acknowledgement you were given, and ask for the register entry number. Since 2025 the case is also visible in the department's Vivah Portal record for the district. The practical confirmation is the bank credit of Rs 2,00,000 in the Kalyani's own account, so keep the passbook updated.
If nothing moves, escalate to the Collector of the same district, who is the other authority named in the scheme's application route, and lodge a parallel complaint on the Madhya Pradesh CM Helpline at 181.
Why do Kalyani Vivah Sahayata applications get rejected?
- Filed in the wrong district. The file belongs to the district that issued the marriage certificate.
- Marriage not registered, so no certificate can be produced.
- Age condition not met, bride under 18 or groom under 21 on the wedding date.
- Family pension already being drawn by the Kalyani.
- Income tax payer or government servant status discovered on verification.
- Husband has a living wife, which is an outright bar.
- Another marriage scheme of the same department already claimed for the same wedding.
- Bank account not in the Kalyani's own name, so the transfer fails.
Key dates to watch
The department has not announced a fixed annual last date for this scheme, but it has repeatedly issued time-limit instructions for district processing through the Vivah Portal, most recently in orders dated 17 April 2025 and 24 March 2026. The safe course is to file as soon as the marriage certificate is in hand rather than waiting, and to ask the district office for the current cut-off it is working to.
Where do I complain?
Write first to the Joint Director or Deputy Director, Social Justice of the district holding your file, quoting the acknowledgement number and the date of filing. If that does not work, escalate to the Collector of the district, and to the Directorate of Social Justice and Divyangjan Empowerment, Link Road Number 3, Bhopal 462016, phone 0755-2556916. Complaints can also be registered on the CM Helpline at 181.
No fee is charged by the department for this scheme. Nobody is authorised to take money for "getting the Rs 2,00,000 sanctioned", and such a demand should be reported to the Collector's office and to 181.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Mukhyamantri Kalyani Vivah Sahayata Yojana pay?
The scheme pays Rs 2,00,000 as a one-time incentive, credited to the Kalyani's own bank account. According to the Social Justice and Divyangjan Empowerment Department, the amount is an incentive for the remarriage of a Kalyani and is not paid to the husband or to any organiser.
Who is a Kalyani under this scheme?
A Kalyani is a widow. Madhya Pradesh uses the word Kalyani in place of "vidhwa" across its social assistance schemes, including the Kalyani Pension Yojana, and this marriage scheme is meant to encourage and support the remarriage of such women.
When was the scheme started?
The scheme was started in 2018 — the department's implementation instructions to districts are dated 28 June 2018. Further orders were issued on 26 September 2022, on 25 February 2025 for publicity, on 17 April 2025 to move the scheme onto the state Vivah Portal, and again on 24 March 2026.
Who is not eligible for the Kalyani marriage assistance?
An income tax payer is not eligible, and neither is a Kalyani who is a government employee or officer of the state or central government or of any government-funded corporation, undertaking or institution. A Kalyani already drawing a family pension is excluded, and so is a marriage where the man already has a living wife.
Can a Kalyani also take the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Nikah Yojana benefit?
No. The department's conditions state that once Kalyani Vivah Sahayata is received, the other marriage schemes of the same department — Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah / Nikah Yojana and Nishakt Vivah Protsahan Yojana — cannot also be claimed. If the wedding takes place inside a Kanya Vivah mass marriage, only the Kalyani benefit is payable.
Is a mass marriage compulsory?
No. The scheme expressly says there is no condition of marrying in a mass marriage ceremony, and a single, individually solemnised marriage is equally valid for this benefit.
Is there a BPL condition?
No. The department states plainly that there is no BPL restriction under this scheme. Income is tested only through the income tax condition — the Kalyani must not be an income tax payer.
Where exactly is the application filed?
At the office of the Collector or the Joint Director or Deputy Director, Social Justice, of the district from which the marriage certificate was issued — even if the couple does not live in that district. The office is required to give the applicant an acknowledgement.
