Uttar Pradesh Divyang Pension Yojana
Uttar Pradesh state government scheme
Uttar Pradesh Divyang Pension Yojana pays Rs 1,000 per month, credited quarterly, to residents aged 18 and above who hold a disability certificate of at least 40 percent and whose family income stays within Rs 46,080 a year in rural areas or Rs 56,460 in urban areas. Applications are free on sspy-up.gov.in.
What is Uttar Pradesh Divyang Pension Yojana?
Uttar Pradesh Divyang Pension Yojana is a state-funded monthly pension for persons with disabilities, run by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of Uttar Pradesh. The department Hindi speakers know as Divyangjan Sashaktikaran Vibhag. The scheme is often searched for by its older name, viklang pension, and both terms refer to the same benefit.
According to the departmental page on uphwd.gov.in, the scheme pays Rs 1,000 per beneficiary per month, with the note that the rate is subject to adjustment by the state government. Money moves through the Aadhaar Based Payment System into the Aadhaar-seeded bank account of the beneficiary, so there is no cash counter, no post office queue and no intermediary between the treasury and the pensioner.
Uttar Pradesh Divyang Pension Yojana exists because a certified disability of 40 percent or more usually cuts a person's earning capacity sharply while raising household costs on medicines, mobility aids, attendant help and travel. The pension is not meant to replace a wage. It is meant to be a predictable floor under a household that has very little else.
Key features
- Rs 1,000 per month, released in quarterly instalments.
- 100 percent state funded by the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
- Sanctioned district by district, with the District Magistrate as the final authority on eligibility.
- Paid only through Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts: no cheque, no cash.
- Free to apply on the state pension portal sspy-up.gov.in.
Who is eligible for the Uttar Pradesh divyang pension?
You can get the pension if all of these hold together:
- You are a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh.
- You are 18 years of age or above on the date of application.
- Your disability certificate shows 40 percent disability or more, issued by a competent medical authority or through the UDID system.
- Your annual family income does not exceed Rs 46,080 if you live in a rural area, or Rs 56,460 if you live in an urban area. These are the state's below-poverty-line thresholds.
- You hold a bank account in your own name, seeded with your Aadhaar number.
You cannot apply, or will be found not eligible, if:
- You are already drawing another state pension, old age pension, widow pension or any similar state grant. Uttar Pradesh allows only one such pension per person, and a second claim is rejected at verification.
- Your disability certificate is below 40 percent, or has expired where it was issued for a fixed period.
- Your family income crosses the rural or urban limit above.
- You are under 18. Children with disabilities are covered by separate departmental schemes, not by this pension.
- You are not a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh, even if you currently live and work in the state.
A separate line of the same department's rules deserves attention: payment to new applicants is made according to the availability of budget on a first-come-first-served basis. Meeting every condition therefore establishes entitlement, but the actual start of payment depends on a sanction slot opening in your district. Applying early in a financial year is practically better than applying late.

How to apply for Uttar Pradesh Divyang Pension Yojana online
- Open the state pension portal at sspy-up.gov.in and choose the Divyang Pension section from the home page.
- Select New Entry Form (Apply Now) to open a fresh application.
- Fill in the personal block: name, father's or husband's name, date of birth, gender, category, district, tehsil, block and full address.
- Enter the disability details exactly as printed on your certificate: type of disability, percentage, certificate number and issuing authority.
- Enter your bank details: bank name, branch, account number and IFSC. Check every digit; a wrong IFSC is the most common cause of failed credits.
- Upload the photograph, disability certificate, income certificate, age proof and bank passbook page in the sizes the form specifies.
- Submit the form, then note the registration number shown on screen and print or save the acknowledgement.
- Log back in with that registration number and complete the final submit step if the portal asks for it — an application left at draft stage is never forwarded for verification.
How to apply offline or with assistance
- Visit a Jan Suvidha Kendra, a Lokvani centre or a Common Service Centre with all your original documents and one photocopy set.
- Ask the operator to file a Divyang Pension application on sspy-up.gov.in in your name, and watch the screen while the disability percentage and bank details are typed in.
- Collect the printed acknowledgement carrying your registration number before you leave the counter.
- If a centre is not reachable, approach the District Divyangjan Kalyan Adhikari office at the collectorate, which accepts and files applications for people who cannot use the portal.
The application itself is free. A Jan Suvidha Kendra may charge only the small government-notified service fee for assisted filing. No one can charge you for "getting the pension approved".
How much does Uttar Pradesh pay and when?
Uttar Pradesh Divyang Pension Yojana pays Rs 1,000 per month, which is Rs 12,000 over a full year. Payments are not made as twelve separate monthly credits, the department releases them in quarterly instalments, so a beneficiary generally sees one credit covering three months at a time.
Money reaches the beneficiary through the Aadhaar Based Payment System, which routes the transfer to whichever bank account is currently seeded against the Aadhaar number. This matters in practice: if you have several bank accounts and later seed a different one with Aadhaar, the pension follows the newly seeded account, not the account number you wrote on the form.
How to check your UP divyang pension status
- Open sspy-up.gov.in and go to the Divyang Pension section.
- Choose the login option for applicants and enter your registration or application number with the password you created.
- Read the status line. It shows whether your form is pending at the tehsil, under verification, sanctioned, or rejected with a reason.
- Use the Pensioner List option to search by district, block or gram panchayat and confirm your name appears in the sanctioned list.
If the list shows your name but no money has arrived, the problem is almost always at the bank end. An un-seeded Aadhaar, a dormant account, or a KYC hold. Visit the branch first before filing a grievance.
Why UP divyang pension applications get rejected
- Disability below 40 percent on the certificate, or an expired certificate.
- Income certificate above the limit, or an income certificate older than the validity period the tehsil allows.
- Another pension already running in the same name, old age or widow pension shows up during the duplicate check.
- Aadhaar not seeded with the bank account, so the payment file fails even after sanction.
- Name mismatch between the Aadhaar record, the bank account and the disability certificate.
- Joint account or a third party's account given instead of the applicant's own single account.
- Incomplete final submission. The form was saved but never finally submitted, so it never reached the verifying officer.
Most of these are fixable. A rejected application can be filed again once the underlying document is corrected; there is no bar on reapplying.
Who verifies the application and who decides?
Field verification runs through the tehsil and block machinery, and the consolidated proposal goes to the district. Under the departmental rules the District Magistrate's approval is required, and the rules state plainly that the decision of the DM is final on the eligibility of beneficiaries. Where an applicant disputes a rejection, the practical route is a representation to the DM's office through the District Divyangjan Kalyan Adhikari rather than a fresh online form.
Help and grievance redressal
- Director's office, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities: 0522-3511020, listed on the departmental site uphwd.gov.in.
- Integrated Grievance Redressal System: file a written complaint at jansunwai.up.nic.in and keep the complaint number for follow-up.
- District Divyangjan Kalyan Adhikari at your collectorate, for certificate, verification and sanction-stage problems.
Two cautions worth repeating. No official will ask for your OTP or your bank password to release a pension. And the Rs 1,000 monthly rate carried on the departmental page is described there as subject to government adjustment, so confirm the current figure on sspy-up.gov.in before relying on it for a household budget.

Frequently asked questions
How much pension does Uttar Pradesh Divyang Pension Yojana pay?
Uttar Pradesh Divyang Pension Yojana pays Rs 1,000 per month, which the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities releases quarterly into the beneficiary's Aadhaar-seeded bank account. Over a full year that works out to Rs 12,000. The departmental page notes the rate is subject to revision by the state government.
What is the minimum disability percentage for the UP divyang pension?
A disability of at least 40 percent, certified by a competent medical authority, is required. A certificate below 40 percent is the single most common ground on which applications are rejected, so check the percentage printed on your certificate or UDID card before applying.
What is the income limit for Uttar Pradesh Divyang Pension Yojana?
Annual family income must not exceed Rs 46,080 in rural areas or Rs 56,460 in urban areas. These are the below-poverty-line limits used by the Uttar Pradesh government, and the figure is taken from the income certificate issued by the tehsil.
Who cannot apply for the UP divyang pension?
Anyone already drawing another state pension — old age pension, widow pension or a similar grant — cannot apply, because a person may hold only one such pension at a time. Applicants below 18 years, those with a certificate under 40 percent disability, those above the income limits, and people who are not permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh are also not eligible.
Where do I apply for the Uttar Pradesh divyang pension?
Apply online at sspy-up.gov.in, the Integrated Pension Portal of the Uttar Pradesh government, under the Divyang Pension section. If you cannot fill the form yourself, a Jan Suvidha Kendra, a Lokvani centre or the district Divyangjan Kalyan Adhikari office will do it for you.
How do I check my UP divyang pension status?
Log in to sspy-up.gov.in with your application or registration number and password to see the current stage of your application, and use the Pensioner List option to check whether your name appears in the sanctioned list for your district, block and gram panchayat.
Is the divyang pension paid every month or quarterly?
The entitlement is Rs 1,000 a month but the money is released in quarterly instalments, so a beneficiary typically sees a credit covering three months at a time rather than twelve separate monthly credits.
Does a new applicant get the pension immediately after approval?
No. The departmental rules state that payment to new applicants is made according to the availability of budget on a first-come-first-served basis, so an approved applicant may wait for a sanction slot in their district.
