Dr. Ambedkar Medhavi Chhattar Sansodhit Yojna, Haryana
Haryana state government scheme
Dr. Ambedkar Medhavi Chhattar Sansodhit Yojna pays merit scholarships of Rs 8,000 to Rs 12,000 a year to Scheduled Caste and Backward Class students in Haryana from class 11 up to postgraduate level. Family income must be under Rs 4 lakh a year, and 60% of the funds are reserved for rural students. Apply at saralharyana.gov.in.
What is Dr. Ambedkar Medhavi Chhattar Sansodhit Yojna?
Dr. Ambedkar Medhavi Chhattar Sansodhit Yojna is Haryana's merit-incentive scholarship for students of the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes. The name translates roughly as the revised Dr. Ambedkar meritorious student scheme, and readers also search for it as Dr. Ambedkar Medhavi Chhatar Sanshodhit Yojana or simply the Dr. Ambedkar Scholarship, Haryana. The scheme is administered by the Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes under the SEWA department of the Government of Haryana.
The scheme is a reward, not a maintenance grant. A student who has just cleared matriculation, intermediate or graduation with a strong percentage receives a lump-sum payment as an incentive to continue into the next level of study. This distinguishes it from post-matric scholarships, which pay fees and monthly maintenance over a course. Here the trigger is a result, and the payout is a single amount for the year.
Two design features are worth understanding at the outset. First, the income ceiling is Rs 4 lakh a year, which is unusually generous for a Haryana welfare scheme, because the scheme is deliberately aimed at capable students rather than only the poorest. Second, 60% of the allocation is reserved for rural students and 40% for urban students, and the marks needed are lower in rural areas at every level, which recognises the gap in school quality between a village and a city.

- Register on the Antyodaya SARAL portal at saralharyana.gov.in with your mobile number and email, then log in.
- Search for the scheme by name, Dr. Ambedkar Medhavi Chhattar Sansodhit Yojna — in the list of services and open the application form.
- Fill in the form with your caste category, qualifying examination marks, the course you have joined, your family income and your bank account details.
- Upload the scanned documents listed above and submit the application.
- Save the SARAL reference ID shown on the acknowledgement, which is the only number that lets you track the case afterwards.
- Follow up with the District Welfare Officer if the case remains pending beyond the notified delivery period.
To apply offline instead:
- Download the scheme form from the Quick Links section of haryanascbc.gov.in.
- Fill it in and get the photograph attested by the principal or head of your institution.
- Attach self-attested copies of the caste certificate, domicile, mark sheet, income certificate, admission proof, Aadhaar and bank passbook.
- Submit the complete set to the District Welfare Officer of the Welfare of SC and BC department in your district and take a receiving stamp on your copy.
How do you check your application status?
Open saralharyana.gov.in, select Track Application Status, choose the department and service, and enter your SARAL reference ID. The screen shows whether the case is pending, verified, sanctioned or returned for correction.
Once sanctioned, the credit reaches your bank account by Direct Benefit Transfer. If the portal shows the case sanctioned but no money has arrived, check whether your account is Aadhaar-seeded before raising a grievance, because a failed DBT is a bank-side problem rather than a departmental one.
Why do Ambedkar Medhavi applications get rejected?
- Percentage below the threshold for the applicant's category and rural or urban status. Students frequently check the SC rural figure and apply on an urban address, or the reverse.
- Family income above Rs 4 lakh, or an income certificate from an authority not competent to issue it.
- Caste certificate in the wrong block. Backward Class Block A and Block B carry very different marks thresholds, so an outdated or wrongly issued certificate changes the outcome.
- No proof of admission to the next course.
- Bank account not in the student's own name or not Aadhaar-seeded.
- Duplicate scholarship already drawn for the same year.
- Name mismatch between Aadhaar, the mark sheet, the caste certificate and the bank account.
Fix the underlying record and reapply. A caste certificate correction or a bank Aadhaar seeding both take days rather than weeks.
When should you apply?
Applications generally open after board and university results are declared, which in Haryana falls in the summer, and the department has in recent years run its window through the middle of the year. There is no permanent published calendar date, so watch the announcements on haryanascbc.gov.in and saralharyana.gov.in and apply as soon as your result and admission proof are both available. Applying with a provisional mark sheet and adding the final mark sheet later is not usually accepted.
Where do you get help or file a grievance?
- Antyodaya SARAL helpline: 0172-3968400, 7 am to 8 pm, Monday to Saturday, excluding government holidays.
- Email: saral.haryana@gov.in
- District Welfare Officer, Welfare of SC and BC department, in your district, for sanction and verification questions.
- SARAL appeal option on the portal, where the service has crossed its notified delivery time.
There is no fee to apply, online or offline. No agent can add a student's name to a merit scholarship list, and no official will ask for your bank OTP.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Dr. Ambedkar Medhavi Chhattar Sansodhit Yojna pay?
The scholarship ranges from Rs 8,000 to Rs 12,000 for a course year. Scheduled Caste students get Rs 8,000 at class 11 and first-year diploma or general undergraduate level, Rs 9,000 in the first year of an engineering, technical, medical or allied undergraduate course, Rs 11,000 in the first year of a general or technical master's course and Rs 12,000 in the first year of a medical or allied master's course. Backward Class Block A and Block B students draw Rs 8,000 at the matriculation-based level.
What marks do you need for the Ambedkar Medhavi scholarship?
The threshold depends on category, level and whether the student is rural or urban. Scheduled Caste students need 60% in matriculation if rural and 70% if urban, 70% rural and 75% urban after intermediate, and 60% rural and 65% urban at graduate level. Backward Class Block A follows the same 60% rural and 70% urban matriculation line, while Backward Class Block B needs 75% rural and 80% urban.
What is the income limit for this scholarship?
Annual family income from all sources must not exceed Rs 4 lakh. This is a considerably higher ceiling than most Haryana welfare schemes, which is deliberate, because the scheme is designed as a merit incentive rather than purely as poverty relief.
Who is not eligible for Dr. Ambedkar Medhavi Chhattar Sansodhit Yojna?
Students who do not belong to the Scheduled Caste, Backward Class Block A or Block B, Vimukt Jati, nomadic, semi-nomadic or Tapriwas categories are not eligible. Students whose family income exceeds Rs 4 lakh a year cannot apply, students who missed the marks threshold for their category and area cannot apply, students who are not residents of Haryana cannot apply, and a student already drawing another scholarship for the same course year cannot draw this one as well.
Is the scholarship paid every year automatically?
No. The scholarship is tied to the marks obtained in the immediately preceding qualifying examination, so a student applies afresh for each eligible level rather than receiving an automatic renewal. Continuing students should reapply after each qualifying result.
What is the rural and urban split in this scheme?
Sixty per cent of the scheme allocation is reserved for students from rural areas and 40% for urban areas. The rural marks thresholds are also set lower than the urban ones at every level, so a rural student competes against a smaller and more sheltered pool.
Can the application be made offline?
Yes. The form can be downloaded from the Quick Links section of haryanascbc.gov.in, filled in, attested and submitted with documents to the District Welfare Officer. Most students find the online route through saralharyana.gov.in faster to track.
How is the money paid?
Payment is by Direct Benefit Transfer into the student's own Aadhaar-seeded bank account. A parent's account or a joint account is not accepted, and an unseeded account is the usual cause of a sanctioned scholarship failing to credit.
