What is the Yuva Nidhi scheme?

Yuva Nidhi is the unemployment allowance guarantee of the Government of Karnataka, run by the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood. Yuva Nidhi pays Rs 3,000 a month to unemployed degree holders and Rs 1,500 a month to unemployed diploma holders who have not found work six months after passing. The Kannada name Yuvanidhi Yojane appears on the Seva Sindhu guarantee portal, where the scheme's application statistics are published alongside Gruha Lakshmi and Gruha Jyothi.

Yuva Nidhi is a bridge payment, not a career. Support runs for a maximum of 24 months, or until the beneficiary takes up employment, whichever comes first. The design assumes that the hardest period for a fresh graduate is the first two years after leaving college. The stretch during which travel to interviews, application fees, coaching and simple living costs have to be met with no income at all.

The scheme sits alongside the state's skilling machinery rather than apart from it. Karnataka added Yuvanidhi Plus in 2024-25 to route registered Yuva Nidhi beneficiaries into short-term skill training through government institutions such as GTTC, KGTTI and CEDOK, on the reasoning that an allowance alone does not close the gap between a degree and a job.

Who is eligible for Yuva Nidhi?

You can apply if:

  • You are a permanent resident of Karnataka and have studied in the state for at least six years.
  • You hold a degree or a diploma awarded by a recognised institution.
  • You passed in 2022-23 or later, the cohort from which the scheme operates.
  • 180 days have elapsed since your result date and you are still without a job.
  • You have a bank account in your own name, Aadhaar-seeded and NPCI-mapped.
  • Your qualification record is available on the National Academic Depository for verification.

You cannot apply, or are not eligible, if:

  • You are employed, whether in government service or in the private sector, full time or on a contract.
  • You are self-employed or running your own business.
  • You are pursuing higher education, a graduate enrolled in a master's programme is out of scope, as is a diploma holder who has joined a degree course.
  • You are already drawing another government stipend, apprenticeship allowance or subsidised government loan for the same period.
  • You have not completed six years of schooling in Karnataka, or cannot establish Karnataka domicile.
  • Fewer than 180 days have passed since your result was declared.

Yuva Nidhi has no income ceiling on the applicant's family and no caste condition. What it tests is qualification, domicile, the six-month waiting period and the fact of being genuinely unemployed.

What benefit does Yuva Nidhi provide?

Qualification Monthly allowance Maximum duration Maximum total
Degree holder Rs 3,000 24 months Rs 72,000
Diploma holder Rs 1,500 24 months Rs 36,000

Payment is by Direct Benefit Transfer into the applicant's own Aadhaar-seeded bank account. The allowance stops the moment the beneficiary takes up employment, and the beneficiary is required to declare that change. Amounts drawn after starting work are treated as recoverable.

How to apply for Yuva Nidhi online

  1. Check your record on the National Academic Depository first. Open the NAD portal, search for your degree or diploma using your university registration or roll number, and confirm the record exists and the spelling of your name matches Aadhaar. Do this before anything else, a missing NAD record stops the application dead.
  2. Open the Karnataka guarantee schemes portal at sevasindhugs.karnataka.gov.in and select the Yuva Nidhi service.
  3. Register or log in with your Aadhaar number and complete OTP authentication on the Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
  4. Enter your qualification details — the university or board, the registration or roll number, the course and the year of passing. The portal fetches and validates the record.
  5. Enter your bank account details: account number, IFSC and branch, in an account held in your own name.
  6. Sign the unemployment declaration, confirming you are not employed, not self-employed, not in higher study and not drawing another government benefit.
  7. Submit the application and save the acknowledgement number shown on screen.
  8. Track the application on the same portal. Once approved, the allowance is credited monthly by DBT and confirmed by SMS.

How to apply for Yuva Nidhi offline

  1. Visit a Grama One centre in a rural area, or a Karnataka One or Bangalore One centre in a city.
  2. Carry your degree or diploma certificate, marks cards, Aadhaar card, bank passbook and the Aadhaar-linked mobile phone.
  3. Ask the operator to file the Yuva Nidhi application on Seva Sindhu, and provide the OTP when it arrives.
  4. Collect the printed acknowledgement with the application number before you leave the counter.

District Skill Offices under the Department of Skill Development also guide applicants, and are the right place to take a rejection you do not understand.

How do I check my Yuva Nidhi status?

  • Use the application status option on sevasindhugs.karnataka.gov.in with the acknowledgement number issued at submission.
  • Watch for SMS alerts to the registered mobile number, sent on approval and on each monthly credit.
  • Check your bank statement or passbook for the DBT credit.
  • Approach the District Skill Office where the portal status has not moved for an unusually long period.

Why Yuva Nidhi applications get rejected

  • NAD record missing or mismatched. The single most common cause. The remedy lies with the university or board, which must upload or correct the record. The Seva Sindhu helpline cannot fix it.
  • Applied before 180 days had elapsed since the result date.
  • Employment detected, including EPFO records showing a contribution in the applicant's name.
  • Higher study enrolment found against the applicant.
  • Bank account not NPCI-mapped to Aadhaar, so the DBT credit fails even after approval. This shows as a failed payment rather than a rejection.
  • Name mismatch between the certificate, Aadhaar and the bank record.
  • Domicile condition not met: fewer than six years of study in Karnataka.

Yuva Nidhi and Yuvanidhi Plus together

Karnataka introduced Yuvanidhi Plus through Government Order No. KAUJIE 238 KAU-GUI 2024 dated 12 December 2024, to offer registered Yuva Nidhi beneficiaries short-term skill training through government institutions. Yuva Nidhi supplies the money to survive the search; Yuvanidhi Plus supplies the training meant to end it. A Yuva Nidhi beneficiary should treat enrolment in a Yuvanidhi Plus course as the natural next step rather than an alternative. The allowance is not withdrawn for taking training, because training is not employment.

Where to get help with Yuva Nidhi

  • Guarantee schemes call centre: 1902, published on sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in.
  • Department of Industrial Training and Employment helpline: 1800-599-9918.
  • District Skill Offices and the State Skill Office listed on kaushalkar.karnataka.gov.in, for rejections and eligibility disputes.
  • Your university or board examination section, for NAD record corrections.
  • Your bank branch, for Aadhaar seeding and NPCI mapping.

Yuva Nidhi is free to apply for. No agent can charge to sanction your allowance, and no official will ask for your Aadhaar OTP over the phone.

Documents required

Degree or diploma certificate

The portal validates the qualification against the National Academic Depository, so this number must be entered exactly as issued.
Aadhaar card
Identity and OTP authentication at the time of application.
Bank account passbook in the applicant's own name
Must be Aadhaar-seeded and NPCI-mapped, since the allowance is paid by Direct Benefit Transfer.
Proof of Karnataka domicile

Frequently asked questions

How much does Yuva Nidhi pay?

Yuva Nidhi pays Rs 3,000 a month to unemployed degree holders and Rs 1,500 a month to unemployed diploma holders. The allowance runs for a maximum of 24 months or until the beneficiary finds work, whichever comes first, so a graduate can receive up to Rs 72,000 in total.

When can I apply for Yuva Nidhi?

Apply once 180 days — about six months — have passed since you passed your degree or diploma without finding a job. Applying before the 180-day mark will not succeed, because the waiting period is the core condition of the scheme.

Who is not eligible for Yuva Nidhi?

Anyone already employed in the government or private sector, anyone who is self-employed or running a business, anyone pursuing higher studies, and anyone drawing another government stipend, loan or unemployment benefit is not eligible. Applicants who are not Karnataka-domiciled, or who did not study at least six years in Karnataka, are also excluded.

What happens if I get a job while drawing Yuva Nidhi?

You must stop drawing the allowance and inform the department, because Yuva Nidhi is payable only while you remain unemployed. Continuing to draw the allowance after taking up employment makes the amount recoverable, and the declaration signed at application is the basis for that recovery.

Do I need to verify my certificate before applying?

Yes. Check that your degree or diploma record is available on the National Academic Depository before you start the application, because the Seva Sindhu portal validates your qualification against NAD. A missing or mismatched NAD record is the most common cause of rejection.

Can postgraduates or students still studying apply?

No, applicants pursuing higher education are excluded, so a graduate who has enrolled for a master's degree cannot draw the allowance. The scheme is designed for people who have finished studying and are looking for work.

How long does Yuva Nidhi support continue?

Yuva Nidhi continues for up to 24 months from the date the allowance starts, or until you find employment, whichever is earlier. There is no extension beyond 24 months for the same qualification.

Is there any fee to apply for Yuva Nidhi?

No. Applying on the Seva Sindhu guarantee portal is free, and government service centres charge only the notified counter fee for assisted filing. No agent can charge to "get your allowance sanctioned".
