Mukhyamantri Matritva Poshan Yojana (Rajasthan)
Rajasthan state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Matritva Poshan Yojana pays Rs 6,000 to a Rajasthan woman on the birth of her second child, released in five instalments of Rs 1,000, Rs 1,000, Rs 1,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 against pregnancy registration, antenatal check-ups, institutional delivery, immunisation and family planning. Enrolment is paperless through the Anganwadi.
What is Mukhyamantri Matritva Poshan Yojana?
Mukhyamantri Matritva Poshan Yojana is a Rajasthan state maternity benefit scheme that pays a woman Rs 6,000 around the birth of her second child, released in five instalments tied to specific health actions. The Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Rajasthan, runs the scheme, with the Department of Medical, Health and Family Welfare providing the health-side data and the Anganwadi network doing the frontline work.
Mukhyamantri Matritva Poshan Yojana was launched in November 2020 as Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana, initially in five tribal districts: Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh and Baran, and extended to all districts of Rajasthan by April 2022. In the pilot phase the annual outlay was about Rs 43 crore, covering roughly 77,000 women a year, funded through the State Mineral Foundation Trust. Readers also encounter it as matritva poshan yojana or the Rajasthan second-child maternity benefit.
The scheme is deliberately a conditional cash transfer rather than a lump sum. Each instalment is released only when a specific health action has been recorded, which is why the amounts are unequal, the largest single instalment, Rs 2,000, sits behind the child's full immunisation.
Main features
- Rs 6,000 total, in five instalments.
- Paid for the second child only.
- Money goes to the mother's own bank account by DBT.
- Paperless enrolment through the Anganwadi and the health system.
- Conditions cover pregnancy registration, antenatal care, institutional delivery, immunisation and family planning.
- Runs alongside, not instead of, the central Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.
What are the five instalments?
| Instalment | Amount | Condition |
|---|---|---|
| First | Rs 1,000 | Pregnancy registered and antenatal registration done |
| Second | Rs 1,000 | At least two antenatal check-ups completed |
| Third | Rs 1,000 | Institutional delivery |
| Fourth | Rs 2,000 | Child's birth registered and all due vaccines given within 105 days of birth |
| Fifth | Rs 1,000 | Couple adopts a family planning method within three months of delivery |
The sequence matters. A woman who registers her pregnancy late loses the first instalment window even if everything afterwards is done correctly, which is why frontline workers push for registration in the first trimester.
Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Matritva Poshan Yojana?
A woman can receive the benefit if:
- She is a resident of Rajasthan.
- She is pregnant with, or has delivered, her second child.
- Her pregnancy is registered in the state health information system through an Anganwadi centre, health sub-centre or PHC.
- She has a bank account in her own name, seeded with her Aadhaar.
- Her family is registered in Jan Aadhaar.
- She completes the health conditions attached to each instalment.
The conditions on second-child eligibility were tightened as the scheme scaled statewide, with the benefit applying to pregnancies of the second child conceived on or after 1 April 2023 in the statewide phase. Confirm the current cut-off with the Anganwadi worker, since this is the criterion that changes most often.
A woman is not eligible if:
- The pregnancy is her first child, that is covered by Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana instead.
- The pregnancy is her third or later child. The scheme stops at the second birth by design.
- She is not a resident of Rajasthan.
- Her pregnancy was never registered in the health system, since there is no record against which to release instalments.
- She has no bank account in her own name: payment cannot be made to a husband's or joint account.
Individual instalments can also be lost without the whole benefit being lost. A home delivery forfeits the third instalment; missing the 105-day immunisation window forfeits the fourth; not adopting family planning within three months forfeits the fifth. Instalments already paid are not recovered.

How to apply for Mukhyamantri Matritva Poshan Yojana
There is no downloadable form and no fee. The steps are:
- Report the pregnancy to your Anganwadi centre, ANM or the nearest health sub-centre as soon as it is confirmed. Early registration protects the first instalment.
- Get the pregnancy registered in the state health information system. The ANM or Anganwadi worker makes the entry and issues or updates the Mother and Child Protection card. This entry is the enrolment, nothing else is filed.
- Give your Jan Aadhaar number, Aadhaar number and your own bank account details to the Anganwadi worker, and confirm the account is Aadhaar-seeded.
- Complete at least two antenatal check-ups and have each one entered on the MCP card, which triggers the second instalment.
- Deliver in a health facility, a government hospital, CHC, PHC or an empanelled institution, and keep the discharge record.
- Register the child's birth and complete the due immunisation within 105 days of birth, and have the vaccines recorded on the MCP card.
- Adopt a family planning method within three months of delivery and have it recorded, for the final instalment.
How to check your payment status
- Ask your Anganwadi worker or ANM to check the entries recorded against your pregnancy registration. Every instalment is released off these entries.
- Check your own bank passbook or the SMS alert on the registered mobile number.
- Check the MCP card to confirm that each completed condition has actually been written in — an action performed but not recorded will not be paid.
- Use the Jan Soochna Portal at jansoochna.rajasthan.gov.in to see scheme and beneficiary information recorded against your Jan Aadhaar.
- Approach the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of your project area if an instalment is overdue after the condition has been recorded.
Why instalments fail or stop
- Bank account not in the mother's own name, or a joint account, the single most common failure.
- Account not seeded with Aadhaar, so the DBT rejects.
- Name mismatch between the Aadhaar record and the bank account.
- Condition performed but not recorded on the MCP card or in the health system, for example a check-up done at a private clinic that never entered the government record.
- Late pregnancy registration, which forfeits the first instalment.
- Immunisation completed after the 105-day window, which forfeits Rs 2,000.
- Birth order recorded wrongly, so a second child is entered as a third. This is corrected at the Anganwadi with the earlier child's records.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Mukhyamantri Matritva Poshan Yojana pay and when?
Mukhyamantri Matritva Poshan Yojana pays Rs 6,000 in five instalments — Rs 1,000 on pregnancy registration, Rs 1,000 after at least two antenatal check-ups, Rs 1,000 on institutional delivery, Rs 2,000 after the newborn's birth registration and immunisation within 105 days, and Rs 1,000 when the couple adopts a family planning method within three months of delivery.
Is the scheme only for the second child?
Yes. Mukhyamantri Matritva Poshan Yojana is targeted specifically at the second live birth. The first child is covered instead by the central Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, so the two schemes fit together rather than overlap.
Do I have to fill an application form?
No. Enrolment is paperless. The Anganwadi worker or the ANM registers the pregnancy in the state health information system, and the instalments are released automatically as each condition is recorded against that registration.
Can the money be paid into my husband's account?
No. The transfer goes to the woman's own bank account, seeded with her Aadhaar. A joint or family account in another person's name is a common reason for a failed payment.
Which districts does it cover?
All districts of Rajasthan. The scheme began in November 2020 in the tribal districts of Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh and Baran, and was scaled to the whole state by April 2022.
What happens if I deliver at home?
A home delivery does not qualify for the institutional delivery instalment of Rs 1,000, because that instalment exists precisely to encourage delivery in a health facility. The earlier instalments already released are not recovered, and later instalments tied to immunisation and family planning can still be claimed if those conditions are met.
Is this the same as Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana?
Yes, it is the same scheme under a changed name. It was launched in November 2020 as Indira Gandhi Matritva Poshan Yojana and is referred to by the Women and Child Development Department's project material as Mukhya Mantri Matritva Poshan Yojana (MMMPY).
Can I also receive Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana?
Yes, for a different child. Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana covers the first child (and a second child if a girl, under its revised guidelines), while this state scheme covers the second birth, so a woman may draw both across her two pregnancies.
