What is Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Evam Anudan Yojana?

Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Evam Anudan Yojana is a Rajasthan state scheme that pays a grant of Rs 25,000 per couple to couples who marry in an approved mass marriage ceremony, administered by the Directorate of Women Empowerment under the Women & Child Development Department, Government of Rajasthan. The scheme is commonly written in Hindi as Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Evam Anudan Yojana and is often referred to simply as the state's samuhik vivah anudan.

The grant is split in a specific way. Rs 21,000 is transferred directly into the bride's own bank account, and Rs 4,000 is paid to the institution that organised the ceremony through the state's Integrated Financial Management System. That split is the design point of the scheme: the bulk of the money belongs to the bride personally, while a smaller sum offsets the organiser's cost of running the event.

Why Rajasthan runs the scheme

  • Cutting wedding debt. Rajasthan families routinely borrow for a single wedding. A mass ceremony spreads the cost of the venue, food and priest across dozens of couples.
  • Attacking child marriage. Because the grant is conditional on the bride being 18 and the groom 21, and on the marriage being formally registered, the scheme creates a financial reason to wait until the legal age.
  • Bringing marriages on record. Compulsory registration within 60 days produces a legal marriage certificate, which later matters for inheritance, passports, insurance claims and widow pension.
  • Putting money in the bride's hands. The Rs 21,000 lands in her account, not the household's.

Who is eligible for Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Evam Anudan Yojana?

A couple can claim the grant if:

  • The bride is 18 years or older and the groom is 21 years or older on the date of marriage.
  • Either the bride or the groom is a resident of Rajasthan.
  • Both are unmarried at the time of the ceremony.
  • The marriage takes place in a mass marriage ceremony organised by an institution approved under the scheme, not privately.
  • The marriage is registered and a marriage registration certificate is obtained within 60 days of the ceremony.
  • The bride holds a bank account in her own name, so the Rs 21,000 can be transferred to her.

You cannot apply, or you are not eligible, if:

  • The wedding was a private or family ceremony. A couple married at home, in a temple on their own, or in a private banquet hall cannot claim this grant, however genuine the marriage.
  • The bride is under 18 or the groom is under 21. An underage marriage is not merely ineligible, it is an offence under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.
  • The marriage is not registered within the prescribed window, or the registration certificate cannot be produced.
  • The organising body is not a registered institution, or did not follow the scheme's prior-application requirement.
  • The same couple has already drawn the grant, the benefit is once per couple.

Under the revised guidelines issued by the state government, institutions must apply online, and a marriage registration certificate is compulsory for grant eligibility. Institutions that used to organise ceremonies first and file claims later now have to follow the online route.

How much money does the scheme give?

Recipient Amount How it is paid
Bride Rs 21,000 Direct transfer to the bride's own bank account
Organising institution Rs 4,000 per couple Released through IFMS to the institution's account
Total per couple Rs 25,000

Rajasthan also runs separate grants for organisers of inter-faith and inter-caste mass marriage programmes, with organiser assistance reported up to Rs 10 lakh for qualifying events. That is a distinct organiser-side benefit and is not paid to individual couples, do not assume a couple receives it.

The Rs 25,000 is a one-time payment. There is no annual renewal, no instalment schedule and no second payment for the same couple.

How to apply for Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Evam Anudan Yojana

The couple does not file the claim themselves. The organising institution does, and the couple's job is to hand over correct documents on time.

  1. Find an approved mass marriage ceremony. Ask your District Women Empowerment Officer, the district Social Justice office or your gram panchayat which registered institutions are holding a samuhik vivah in your area, and register your names with the organiser before the event.
  2. The institution applies online in advance. Under the revised guidelines the organising institution must submit its application online through the state portal before the ceremony, giving the date, venue and expected number of couples.
  3. Attend the ceremony and collect proof. Take part in the mass marriage. Keep the ceremony photograph and the organiser's certificate of participation.
  4. Register the marriage within 60 days. Apply for marriage registration at the office of the registrar of marriages, or through an e-Mitra kiosk, and collect the certificate. Do not let this slip. The grant is not released without it.
  5. Hand the document set to the organiser. Give the institution the Aadhaar cards, age proofs, Jan Aadhaar, bride's bank passbook, photographs and the marriage registration certificate.
  6. The institution uploads the details online and submits the physical file to the District Women Empowerment Officer.
  7. Verification and sanction. The district office verifies age, residence, registration and bank details. On approval, Rs 21,000 is transferred to the bride's account and Rs 4,000 to the institution through IFMS.

How to check the status of your grant

  1. Ask the organising institution for the application or file number given when the details were uploaded.
  2. Visit or call the District Women Empowerment Office in your district and quote that number.
  3. Check your Jan Aadhaar-linked payment record on jansoochna.rajasthan.gov.in, the state's public disclosure portal, which lists benefit transfers against a Jan Aadhaar number.
  4. Check the bride's bank passbook or SMS alerts for a DBT credit of Rs 21,000.

Payments usually follow district-level verification rather than the ceremony date, so a gap of a few weeks between the wedding and the credit is normal.

Why grants get rejected or delayed

  • No marriage registration certificate, or registration filed after the 60-day window. This is the most frequent cause.
  • Bank account not in the bride's own name, or not Aadhaar-seeded, so the DBT transfer fails.
  • Name mismatch between Aadhaar, Jan Aadhaar, the marriage certificate and the bank account. Spelling differences in the bride's name after marriage are a common trap — keep the bank account name matching Aadhaar.
  • Age proof not accepted, for example an affidavit instead of a birth certificate or school record.
  • Organiser not registered, or the institution did not file the advance online application.
  • Duplicate claim for a couple already paid.

Most of these are fixable. A failed transfer because of a wrong account number is corrected by giving updated bank details to the District Women Empowerment Office; a name mismatch is corrected at the bank or through an Aadhaar update at an e-Mitra kiosk.

Where to complain or get help

  • Directorate of Women Empowerment, Jaipur to 0141-2716452. The directorate sits at 7, Jhalana Institutional Area, Jaipur 302004.
  • District Women Empowerment Officer in your district collectorate, the first and most effective point of contact for a stuck file.
  • Rajasthan Sampark to 181, the state grievance helpline, for a written complaint with a tracking number.
  • jansoochna.rajasthan.gov.in to see your family's scheme records against your Jan Aadhaar number.

No fee is payable to any agent for this grant. An institution organising an approved mass marriage cannot lawfully charge a couple for the Rs 21,000 that belongs to the bride, and any demand for a cut of it should be reported to the District Women Empowerment Officer.

Frequently asked questions

How much money does Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Evam Anudan Yojana give?

Rs 25,000 per couple. Of this, Rs 21,000 goes directly to the bride's bank account and Rs 4,000 is paid to the institution that organised the mass marriage, released through the state's IFMS payment system.

What is the minimum age to get the grant?

The bride must be 18 years or older and the groom 21 years or older on the date of the marriage. This mirrors the legal minimum marriage age, and one of the scheme's stated purposes is to discourage child marriage.

Can a couple married privately claim this grant?

No. The grant is only for couples who marry in a mass (samuhik) marriage ceremony organised by an institution approved under the scheme. A private or family wedding is not eligible.

Who actually files the application?

The organising institution files it. After the ceremony the institution uploads the couples' details online and submits the supporting documents to the District Women Empowerment Officer, who verifies them before payment is sanctioned.

Is marriage registration compulsory?

Yes. A marriage registration certificate is compulsory and must be obtained within 60 days of the ceremony. Without it the file is not cleared, and this is the single most common reason grants get held up.

Does the money reach the bride or the family?

The Rs 21,000 share reaches the bride's own bank account by direct transfer, not her parents' or her husband's account. This is deliberate — the scheme is designed to leave the money under the bride's control.

Can a widow or divorced woman remarrying claim the grant?

The scheme is framed for couples marrying in an approved mass ceremony and the standard rule requires both parties to be unmarried at the time. Rules on remarriage cases are decided by the District Women Empowerment Officer, so ask that office before the ceremony rather than after.

What does an institution have to do to organise an approved ceremony?

A society, trust or institution must be duly registered, must apply online in advance of the ceremony as required under the revised guidelines, and must ensure every participating couple's marriage is registered. Grants to institutions are released only against verified, registered marriages.
