Vikramaditya Scholarship Yojana (Madhya Pradesh)
Madhya Pradesh state government scheme
Vikramaditya Scholarship Yojana is a Madhya Pradesh Higher Education Department scheme that gives general-category undergraduate students from low-income families a fee-related scholarship of up to Rs 2,500 a year. Applicants need at least 60 per cent in Class 12, MP residence and admission to a government or government-aided college, and apply on hescholarship.mp.gov.in.
What is the Vikramaditya Scholarship Yojana?
Vikramaditya Scholarship Yojana is a scholarship of the Department of Higher Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh, aimed at a group that most other scholarship schemes leave out, general-category students from very low-income families. Post matric scholarships in Madhya Pradesh are largely built around SC, ST and OBC categories. A general-category student whose family earns little has historically had no comparable route, and Vikramaditya Scholarship Yojana exists to fill that gap.
The scheme is often referred to in Hindi as Vikramaditya Nishulk Shiksha Yojana, and is described as a fee-exemption benefit for undergraduate study in government and government-aided colleges. In practice it operates as an annual scholarship of up to Rs 2,500 credited to the student's bank account rather than an at-source waiver at the college counter.
Key points
- Run by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh.
- Applied for on the higher education scholarship portal, hescholarship.mp.gov.in.
- Benefit: up to Rs 2,500 per year.
- Target group: general-category undergraduate students in government or government-aided colleges.
- Aadhaar-based e-KYC and a Samagra ID are prerequisites.
Who is eligible for the Vikramaditya Scholarship?
You can be considered if:
- You are a permanent resident of Madhya Pradesh.
- You belong to the general category.
- You scored at least 60 per cent in the Class 12 board examination.
- You are enrolled in a regular undergraduate course in a government or government-aided college in Madhya Pradesh.
- Your parent or guardian's annual income is within the notified ceiling: reported at Rs 54,000 for undergraduate study, with a higher ceiling of around Rs 1,20,000 reported for the higher study category.
- You have a Samagra ID and a bank account in your own name.
You are not eligible if:
- You belong to SC, ST or OBC, because those categories are covered by the separate post matric scholarship schemes and cannot draw both.
- You are studying in a private unaided college rather than a government or government-aided institution.
- Your Class 12 percentage is below 60 per cent.
- Your family income is above the notified ceiling.
- You are not a Madhya Pradesh resident, or cannot produce a residence certificate.
- You are already receiving another scholarship for the same year covering the same fees.
Because the income ceiling under this scheme is unusually low, an accurate and recent income certificate matters more here than in almost any other Madhya Pradesh scholarship.

How to apply for the Vikramaditya Scholarship online
- Open the Madhya Pradesh higher education scholarship portal at hescholarship.mp.gov.in.
- Register as a new applicant using your Samagra ID. The portal pulls your name, date of birth and family details from the Samagra database, so correct any mismatch in Samagra first.
- Complete Aadhaar e-KYC, either by OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number or by biometric authentication. The application cannot proceed without it.
- Log in and select Vikramaditya Scholarship from the list of schemes for the current academic year.
- Fill in the form: your college code and branch code, course and year, Class 12 marks, parent or guardian's annual income, and your bank account number and IFSC code.
- Upload the documents, photograph, mark sheets, income certificate, residence certificate and bank passbook page.
- Lock and submit the application. A saved draft is not a submitted application, and drafts are not considered after the closing date.
- Take a printout and submit it to your college so the institution can verify and forward it to the department.
- Note the application number for tracking.
How to apply if you do not have internet access
- Go to the scholarship cell of your own college: every government and aided college in Madhya Pradesh has a designated scholarship clerk who files student applications on the portal.
- Alternatively use an MPOnline kiosk or a Common Service Centre, taking your Samagra ID, Aadhaar, mark sheets, income and residence certificates and bank passbook.
- Collect the printed acknowledgement with the application number before you leave.
How do I check the status of my Vikramaditya Scholarship?
Log back into hescholarship.mp.gov.in with your Samagra ID or application number and open the application status page. The status moves through stages — submitted and locked, verified by the institution, sanctioned by the department, and paid. Once the department sanctions the amount, it goes by direct transfer into the student's Aadhaar-seeded bank account, so the bank credit is the final confirmation.
If the status shows "pending at institution" for a long time, the delay is at your own college and should be taken up with the college scholarship cell, not with the department.
Why do Vikramaditya Scholarship applications get rejected?
- Application saved but not locked. An unlocked draft is invalid after the deadline, and this is the most frequent cause of loss.
- Income certificate too old or issued for a different family unit.
- Samagra mismatch, name or date of birth in Samagra not matching the mark sheet.
- e-KYC not completed, usually because the Aadhaar-linked mobile number is inactive; use biometric e-KYC instead.
- Bank account in a parent's name or not Aadhaar-seeded, so the transfer fails.
- College is private unaided, which falls outside the scheme.
- Class 12 percentage below 60.
- Category mismatch. An SC, ST or OBC student applying under a general category scheme.
Most rejections are documentary, and most can be prevented by fixing the Samagra record and getting a fresh income certificate before the portal opens.
What are the key dates?
Vikramaditya Scholarship Yojana runs on the academic calendar. The portal normally opens for fresh and renewal applications after undergraduate admissions close, and the department publishes the last date on hescholarship.mp.gov.in. Extensions and reopened windows are announced on the same portal; in recent cycles the department has reopened windows for other higher education schemes for short periods, so a student who missed the first window should keep checking rather than assume the year is lost.
Because the exact dates change every year, treat the portal notice as the only authority and do not rely on dates quoted on private scholarship websites.
Where do I get help or complain?
Take a pending or wrongly rejected application first to your college
scholarship cell, which can see the file and the reason recorded. If the case
sits with the department, contact the Directorate of Higher Education, whose
contact details are published on highereducation.mp.gov.in, and use the contact
details listed on the scholarship portal for scheme-specific queries. A complaint
that goes nowhere can be lodged on the Madhya Pradesh CM Helpline, 181, which
generates a tracking number.
Applying is free. No college, agent or kiosk operator can charge a fee for "getting the Vikramaditya Scholarship approved", and any such demand should be reported.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the Vikramaditya Scholarship give?
Vikramaditya Scholarship Yojana gives up to Rs 2,500 per year towards college fees. It is an annual scholarship, not a monthly stipend, and it is credited to the student's own bank account.
Who is the Vikramaditya Scholarship for?
The scheme is for general-category students from economically weak families in Madhya Pradesh who have passed Class 12 and taken admission to an undergraduate course in a government or government-aided college.
What marks are needed?
A minimum of 60 per cent in the Class 12 board examination is the reported qualifying mark. Students below that threshold do not qualify.
What is the income limit?
The reported ceiling on annual parental income for undergraduate study is Rs 54,000, with a higher ceiling of Rs 1,20,000 reported for the higher study category. Because these figures are revised, verify the current year's limit on hescholarship.mp.gov.in before applying.
Who cannot apply for the Vikramaditya Scholarship?
Students of SC, ST and OBC categories are not eligible because separate post matric scholarship schemes cover them. Students in private unaided colleges, students below 60 per cent in Class 12, students whose family income exceeds the ceiling, and students who are not Madhya Pradesh residents are also not eligible.
Is there any application fee?
No. Applying on hescholarship.mp.gov.in is free, and no fee is charged at any stage of verification or disbursal.
Do I have to apply again every year?
Yes. The scholarship has to be renewed each academic year with the latest mark sheet and a current enrolment record; there is no automatic renewal.
How is the money paid?
The approved amount is transferred directly into the student's own Aadhaar-seeded bank account after the college and the department verify the application.
