Madhya Pradesh state government scheme
Mukhyamantri Aawas Yojana in Madhya Pradesh is the state's rural housing route, run by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department through the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Mission for families left out of the central scheme, which itself pays Rs 1.20 lakh in plain areas and Rs 1.30 lakh in hilly areas. Households are selected from surveys, not by walk-in application.
What is Mukhyamantri Aawas Yojana in Madhya Pradesh?
Mukhyamantri Aawas Yojana is how Madhya Pradesh describes its own rural housing effort, delivered through the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Mission of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department. The department maintains a dedicated mission page on its portal at prd.mp.gov.in, and the mission works alongside the central Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) rather than replacing it.
Understanding the relationship between the two matters more than the name. The overwhelming majority of pucca houses built for rural families in Madhya Pradesh are funded under PMAY-G, a centrally sponsored scheme with a central and state funding share. The state mission exists to extend the effort to rural families who need a house but do not appear in the central list, and to coordinate the supporting pieces; land, sanitation, electricity, water and labour wages, that turn a grant into a completed home.
The core funding numbers under PMAY-Gramin
- Rs 1.20 lakh per house in plain areas.
- Rs 1.30 lakh per house in hilly, difficult and IAP districts.
- Paid in instalments by Direct Benefit Transfer, each released after the previous construction stage is verified and geo-tagged.
- A minimum house size of 25 square metres, including a dedicated cooking area.
- Unskilled labour wage days under MGNREGA for the beneficiary's own construction, paid over and above the housing assistance.
- A toilet through convergence with the sanitation mission.
Together these convergences take the effective value of a rural house well above the headline grant figure, which is why the scheme is described as a package rather than a single payment.
Who is eligible for rural housing assistance in Madhya Pradesh?
You can be selected if:
- Your family lives in a rural area of Madhya Pradesh, within a gram panchayat.
- Your family has no pucca house, or lives in a kutcha or dilapidated house with at most two rooms.
- Your household appears in the Awaas Plus survey, the exercise that identifies households missed by the earlier Socio-Economic and Caste Census data.
- Your household is verified by the Gram Panchayat and approved by the Gram Sabha.
- You own the site on which the house will be built.
You cannot be selected if:
- Your family already owns a pucca house of two rooms or more with pucca walls and roof.
- Your family owns a motorised three or four wheeler.
- Your family owns mechanised three or four wheel agricultural equipment.
- Your family holds a Kisan Credit Card above the prescribed credit limit.
- Any family member is a government employee.
- Your family runs a non-agricultural enterprise registered with the government.
- Any family member pays income tax or professional tax.
- Your family owns a refrigerator or a landline telephone, or irrigated land above the prescribed threshold. The standard exclusion set used for rural housing selection.
- You live in an urban local body area. Urban households are covered by the urban housing route of the Urban Development and Housing Department, not by the rural mission.
These automatic exclusions are applied from data, not from a discretionary judgement in the village, which is why an appeal usually needs the underlying record corrected rather than an argument at the panchayat.
How to apply for a house under Mukhyamantri Aawas Yojana
Rural housing in Madhya Pradesh has no walk-in application counter. There is no form an individual family submits to claim a house on demand. What a family can and should do is make sure it is correctly recorded in the survey from which beneficiaries are drawn.
- Visit the Gram Panchayat office and ask the panchayat secretary whether your household appears in the Awaas Plus survey list for your village, and at what priority.
- If your household is missing or wrongly recorded, ask for it to be surveyed or corrected. Carry Aadhaar, Samagra ID, the MGNREGA job card and a bank passbook so the record can be created accurately.
- Attend the Gram Sabha where the village housing list is read out and approved. Raise an omission or a wrong exclusion at this meeting, since the Gram Sabha is the forum that approves the list.
- If the objection is not settled at the Gram Sabha, take it to the Janpad Panchayat (block) office, and then to the District Panchayat / Chief Executive Officer, Zila Panchayat.
- Ensure a site is in your name. A landless family should apply separately for a residential plot under Mukhyamantri Aawasiye Bhu-Adhikaar Yojana on saara.mp.gov.in, since housing assistance is paid to build on land the family owns.
- Once sanctioned, open or update an Aadhaar-seeded bank account, because every instalment is paid by Direct Benefit Transfer into it.
- Build in stages and get each stage geo-tagged by the panchayat, since the next instalment is released only after the previous stage is verified.
How to check whether your name is on the list
- Open pmayg.nic.in, the national rural housing portal, and use the beneficiary search.
- Search either with your registration number, or use the "advanced search" with state, district, block and gram panchayat and your name or father's name.
- Ask the Gram Panchayat secretary for the approved village list, which is a public document and is read at the Gram Sabha.
- For instalment credits, check your bank passbook and the payment status shown against your registration on the portal.
The Panchayat and Rural Development Department portal, prd.mp.gov.in, carries the state's own dashboards and the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Mission page.
Why families get left out, and how to fix it
- Not surveyed at all. The commonest cause. A household that was absent when the survey team visited is simply not in the data. Get it entered through the panchayat.
- Recorded as already having a pucca house. Where an old survey coded a kutcha house wrongly, the correction has to be made in the record and taken to the Gram Sabha.
- An automatic exclusion triggered by an old asset. A vehicle or a Kisan Credit Card entry, sometimes no longer accurate, blocks selection until the underlying record is corrected.
- No site in the family's name. Sanction cannot proceed without a plot; the land rights scheme is the prior step.
- Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded, so the Direct Benefit Transfer instalment fails. Get the seeding done at your branch.
- Construction stalled between instalments. Each instalment needs the previous stage physically completed and geo-tagged. An incomplete plinth holds up the next payment.
Help and grievance redressal
- Gram Panchayat secretary: first point for survey entry, list position and geo-tagging.
- Janpad Panchayat (block) office, for objections not settled in the Gram Sabha.
- Chief Executive Officer, Zila Panchayat. The district authority for rural housing grievances.
- Panchayat and Rural Development Department, prd.mp.gov.in, for the state mission and its dashboards.
- CM Helpline 181. The Madhya Pradesh general grievance line.
No fee is payable for selection under rural housing, and no agent can add a name to the list. Selection is made from survey data, approved openly in the Gram Sabha, and paid by Direct Benefit Transfer into the beneficiary's own account.
A note on names. Madhya Pradesh has used several housing scheme names over the years, and separate housing schemes also exist for registered construction workers under the Labour Department and for urban households under the Urban Development and Housing Department. Before assuming that any particular "Chief Minister housing scheme" applies to you, confirm with your Gram Panchayat or Janpad Panchayat which scheme your household is being considered under, since the assistance amount and the route differ between them.

Frequently asked questions
What is Mukhyamantri Aawas Yojana in Madhya Pradesh?
Mukhyamantri Aawas Yojana is the state-level rural housing effort of the Madhya Pradesh Panchayat and Rural Development Department, delivered through the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Mission, which works alongside the central Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin to cover rural families that need a pucca house.
How much assistance is paid for building a house?
Under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin, which is the funding backbone for rural housing in Madhya Pradesh, assistance is Rs 1.20 lakh in plain areas and Rs 1.30 lakh in hilly and difficult areas, released in instalments as construction progresses.
Can I apply directly for a house under this scheme?
No, there is no walk-in application counter. Beneficiaries are drawn from the Awaas Plus survey list, which the Gram Panchayat verifies and the Gram Sabha approves, so the correct step is to get your household into that survey.
Who is not eligible for rural housing assistance?
Families that already own a pucca house, families with a motorised four-wheeler, a mechanised agricultural implement or a Kisan Credit Card above the prescribed limit, families with a government employee member, and families paying income tax or professional tax are not eligible.
I have no land at all. What should I do first?
Apply for a residential plot under Mukhyamantri Aawasiye Bhu-Adhikaar Yojana on the SAARA portal at saara.mp.gov.in. Housing assistance is paid to build on a site the family owns, so a landless family needs the plot before the house.
How do I check whether my name is on the rural housing list?
Use the beneficiary search on pmayg.nic.in, which lets you look up your name by registration number or by state, district, block and panchayat, and also ask the Gram Panchayat secretary for the approved village list.
Do I get labour wages for building my own house?
Yes. A rural housing beneficiary is entitled to unskilled labour days under MGNREGA for constructing the house, paid separately from the housing instalments, which is why a job card is part of the document set.
How is the money paid?
Assistance is paid in instalments by Direct Benefit Transfer into the beneficiary's Aadhaar-seeded bank account, each instalment released after the previous construction stage is verified and geo-tagged.
